Occupy this.

New York State accounted for the biggest migration exodus of any state in the nation between 2000 and 2010, with 3.4 million residents leaving over that period, according to the Tax Foundation.

This has been going on for decades from Upstate NY, us upstaters have been another incarnation of the Okies since the seventies. It is almost a diaspora.

When Limbaugh sold his luxury apt and moved 100% of his business down to Florida (can you say 'property/business taxes'?) the Mayor of NYC joked, If I'd known that I would have raised taxes sooner.

Glenn Beck moved his whole business down to Dallas from NYC a few months ago, too. (Again: jobs, tax base leaving New York.)

Notice the mayor said nuthin.

"[B]ut many more may have moved there because the state does not have an individual income tax, an estate tax, nor an inheritance tax.”

It seems the people with money are moving out,and who is replacing them? In California, with a net out-migration of 41,000 over ten years, are the affluent moving to be replaced by retirees and job seekers?

If so, the loss of tax dollars to the State is even worse.

Brought to you by Ontario's ministry of out migration.
Conservatives who want to see McSquishy in their rear view mirror with the added bonus of being further away from Quebec.
See you in Fort McMurray!

The Luddite socialists in every jurisdiction have, like formerly in Saskatchewan, the view of taxing or controlling everything that makes money in their wealth redistribution schemes and has to be kept in a no growth economy.

Think also Mulcair's views of the oil sands.

I encouraged my children to leave, and I will go when I retire. It is a matter of survival, not choice. Property taxes are also high, as is the tax on gasoline. The Thruway was supposed to be toll-free when the bonds were paid off, instead tolls were raised. State Medicare spending is higher than the next four states combined, with part of the cost paid by county taxes.

Taxation policy would be far simpler if people didn't have feet.

rabbit, don't give them any ideas.

Limbuagh and Beck are the exception. Many of the emigres are rats leaving a sinking ship---champagne communists fleeing to other jurisdictions rather than face the consequences of their misrule (crushing taxes, irreversible economic decline, and increasing lawlessness and terror). In their new homes, of course, they thrust like-minded people into office and the cycle repeats itself, proving they've learned nothing---though a few have the gall to write books and op-eds for mainstream papers claiming they saw it coming long ago.

They learn nothing because far too few of them are ever forced to help reap the whirlwind they sowed. A whip for a horse, a bridle for a donkey, and a rod for a fool's back, because nothing else will set him right.

In California, with a net out-migration of 41,000 over ten years, are the affluent moving to be replaced by retirees and job seekers? dmorris

This may shed some light: According to Joel Kotkin, " 40% of Californians don't pay any income tax and a quarter are on Medicaid. " 4/20 WSJ

Don't suppose any of them headed north into Dildo McDinkyland, do you?

You know:

My Country 'tis of thee,
Sweet land of HRCs,
Of thee I sing
Land of LGBT pride,
Land where our fathers tried,
On e-ve-ry-y mountainside
Subsidized, f*****g, windmill things.

Okay, okay. I know the cadence ain't that hot...

Mostly retirees from the looks of it. I do not see any discussion in the article on people leaving to look for work. Rather ... that the emigrees are taking their nest eggs and going to the retirement state.

Especially now ... with deflated cost housing in the formerly inflated sun belt ... and the still inflated costs in the NE US. But this is not going to be an opportunity that lasts long for the modestly affluent. You've seen this movie before.

Start spreadin' the news! I'm leaving today!
