There was a lot of controversy leading up to this moment, as we covered previously on WUWT where NSIDC put a new trailing average algorithm online with no notice, and bungled the climatology in the process, needing a fix. As has been the case before when NSIDC data goes wonky it was those bloggers of “breathtaking ignorance” who spotted the issue before NSIDC did and brought it to their attention.

Even if you know only a little NYC geography, Manhattans are a very good unit of area measurement. Certainly we've all seen the view looking both directions from the Empire State in photos many times. It's actually the 9000 that's hard to comprehend. - Anyone know how many Manhattans there are in a Newfoundland?
the Manhattans haven't migrated to Newfoundland yet, as they are being readied for the cultural shock they are about to encounter went they do!!!

It's not clear when "now" is. But if it is the date of the post the answer should be "& it is dropping many Manhattans per day until it will reach the 2012 low point in September."

We are all born skeptics, we only learn “real” knowledge through the scientific process of experimentation and the observation of (empirical) results. A real scientist will not fake data or claim that they have expertise in “any” part of science that they did not understand or personally develop the duplication of the proof.

I'm not sure how he is calculating the Manhattan numbers. I get 31,000 to 45,000 Manhattans of greater ice compared to the most amount of missing ice from the average which took place in 2007, depending on if you include only land area of Manhattan (59.13 km^2) or include water area as well (87 km^2).
I have an associate who did contract work at the South Pole around the millenium....he said the warm days it got up to -30C.....
