To the Toronto Star, Ludwig was "just a guy from the neighbourhood".

The CBC also calls him an anti-oil activist in the headline, but they do mention "convicted bomber" in the first paragraph.

An eco-terrorist and a heretic leading decent people away from God. A combination even the Star can't love---notice even they didn't bother quoting anybody but his family willing to eulogize him.

Oh, having read the Sun article, I now understand the eco-enthusiast's warnings about the threats posed by oil pipelines.

BTW, for everyone's edification, the facilities that he bombed and stood accused of bombing around Dawson Creek were not oil facilities but natural gas ones.
Weibo Ludwig was protesting against the sour gas being extracted and released into the air, poisoning him, his family, and their cattle.
How blowing those facilities to smithereens and releasing even more toxins was going to be helpful for his cause is hard to fathom for most people.

I can't be bothered to read but wasn't there a kid killed on his property for trespassing. Is the media also championing him for standing up for property rights in addition to his "eco-activism" or is that being conveniently ignored?

A good many farmers consider him a hero. I had a serious altercation with a land owner, north of Swift Current, who told a land man he was going to pull a "Wiebo" if he didn't get the right price for a lease. I was pulled off the job, to avoid more confrontation.

Wiebo pulled the trigger that killed that child, evryone knows that. Her family had to deal with, not only the fact the RCMP treated them like potential criminals, but also the fact taxpayers spent millions of dollars on 24 hour police protection for the murdering scum.

There's something oddly familiar with that statement "conscience for the oilpatch". There was an article in Oilweek Magazine, about 8 or 10 years ago, that used that exact description. When I read it, I ended up in a big fight with June Warren Publishing, and cancelled my account with the Oilfield Service Directory. I had a couple of calls from the editor, that ended up in screaming matches. After I cancelled my account, they kept sending the magazine, despite many complaints.

A little like Obamba killing the country to save it sort of hero worship. (US or Lybia take your pick).

red gunlop- Quit it with the lies. There were no wells 50 feet from the house. There's an ERCB mandated set-back of 200 meters from any dwelling. It can only be relaxed with landowner consent, but no drilling supervisor is going to put a rig next to a house.

Ludwig bought some worthless land, and was not making it as a farmer. His family was too lazy to work. He thought those gas wells were going to be his salvation, but they only drilled a couple of wells, and it wasn't enough revenue to keep the "family" afloat. He then turned to extortion to try and dump the land on the oil company. His tactics were so transparent, the oil company decided to keep a low profile, and let it blow over. They hadn't calculated the effect of the left-wing, oil-hating media. Most of the people, whose lives were put in jeopardy by bombs, were farm boys working in the oilpatch.

Wiebo was just plain wrong, on every level. He was a liar, an extortionist, a terrorist, a murderer, a sexual deviant, and a really bad farmer.

red- I work in the industry. I worked in that field in the 80s. My brother worked on Wiebo's land. My nephew works in the industry, and went to school with the girl Wiebo murdered.

Wiebo took a picture of an aborted sheep fetus, gave it to the media, and claimed it came from his wife's womb. That tells me all I need to know about the guy. Dozens of Wiebo's neighbours are having absolutely no problem with adjacent gas wells.

Coach is absolutely right about all of it.

And his comments can be backed up by hundreds of people living in that area who have had to watch helplessly as the Willis family has had to swallow one of the most wicked examples of an issue that has come up lately -- a lack of victims' rights. The process of investigation for that murder was a farce and beyond tipped in favor of the criminal.

Anyone who has any kind comment for Weibo should pause and consider the prospect of a child being shot by a gloating neighbour in such a fashion that the entire town knows who is responsible for it -- and not one single thing is done about it. Except a collective shrug.
