Having just finished reading Margaret Thatcher's book a second time I was struck how insightful she was when she took over the the government form a pillaging socialist regime who created a nation strangnated by union excesses. The first thing she did was fire (right down to the pettiest of minions) everyone in the federal bureaucracy who did not run balanced budgets - the result was staqggering. Government spending came back under control fast and savings were passed on in tax relief - significant tax relief.
Both the Harperites and the coming new Republican administration need to do likewise. Rid themselves of the wasters who will undermine their administating over a recovery from bizarre spending excesses.
Did not, the current occupant of the White House object to citizens that pay taxes of going to and having a good time on their own dime, in Las Vegas?

An amazing 61.1% of homes are underwater in Nevada. This pattern has been driven by a 60% decrease in median home value from the peak of the market. Also, 13.4% of homes in Nevada are in foreclosure or 90+ days delinquent — second only to Florida. High speed rail can bring in more tourists and gamblers. Can't blame him for trying and doubt if his religion has much to do with it.

I just saw the Atlas Shrugged movie a couple days ago. Much easier to "get" the movie, even though they skipped a ton of stuff. Nice female lead too. :)
