We Don't Need No Stinking Sparky Cars

Via Planet Gore;

China’s leaders are finding it’s a lot tougher to create a world-beating electric car industry than they hoped.

In 2009, they announced bold plans to cash in on demand for clean vehicles by making China a global power in electric car manufacturing. They pledged billions of dollars for research and called for annual sales of 500,000 cars by 2015.

Today, Beijing is scaling back its ambitions, chastened by technological hurdles and lack of buyer interest. Developers have yet to achieve breakthroughs and will be lucky to sell 2,000 cars this year, mostly taxis. The government has hedged its bets by broadening the industry’s official goals to include cleaner gasoline engines.

Aw shucks, isn't reality a bitch?

Supplies, supplies!

What?? All the thar CO2 spewing coal power stations, and very few recharging stations? Ummm. Sounds like typical commie/socialist planning.

Taxis???? Hard to make a living driving a couple fares then having to stop for a recharge, wouldn't you say?

SDA gets results!

“I think we have to revisit our position on climate change and whether or not Albertans want to see a more comprehensive policy to deal with greenhouse gases,” she said. During the election, Ms. Smith said the science around climate change is not settled.

wait till Redford puts in a carbon tax and a sales tax in Alberta , will it be settled then

Cadillac XTS sedan will be made in China with replacement parts that don't work.

Here is hoping they don't build our new airplane.

Electric cars work! If you live in a place like Catalina and drive a golf cart.

Otherwise I will stick with an internal combustion engine, thank you very much!

There is one company out there with a really intriguing battery technology: Altair. Unfortunately, we're not seeing a lot of batteries in use. Makes me wonder where the problem is in the chain. If the battery actually does everything they claim, it would solve all of the problems that prevent ME from using an electric vehicle, namely temperature and range issues.

The Chinese haven't developed a viable electric car yet because the West hasn't developed the battery technology for them to steal.

2000 taxi's in China doesn't cover then Bejing airport.

Chinese love their SUV's, and they drive like friggen maniacs once out of the major city jams.

For all the whining about Alberta "rednecks" lately, the latte' lappers are in for a big shock once their cultural enrichment experience expands beyond their local Chinese lunch buffet.

Re Chinese built Cadillacs. China also makes Buicks, which are immensely popular there. Chinese buyers love solidly built autos. There's central planning, and then there's the market. Governments everywhere can be idiots (why should China's be any different then ours?), but bet against the world's largest potential market at your peril.

Annual sales of 500,000 electrics by 2015 will now to turn out to be 500,000 gasoline/diesel autos instead. Alberta and Saskatchewan need an oil pipeline built to Canada's west coast ASAP.

With Volkswagen marketing and manufacturing a one-person diesel car in China, that gets 200 mpg,why do they even bother with electric smoke and mirrors?

Mo Strong still have some influence?

As Richard Feynman said, "For any successful technology, Reality must take precendence over Public Relations, for Nature cannot be fooled"

Truly when someone doesn't know after that its up to other users that they will help, so here it occurs.

"The Chinese haven't developed a viable electric car yet because the West hasn't developed the battery technology for them to steal."

Ha! That sums it up very neatly.

Electric cars may eventually become "viable" because the pinkos are doing everything in their power to raise the price of oil and gasoline.

This is how the left works. If the facts don't fit then cheat. They do it all the time.

On Rush limbaugh today, he got a message from Paul W Smith of 760 Detroit, from the China car show.

Rush also remarked that he would say nothing further so as to NOT get Bob Lutz peeved at him.

I'm guessing GM isn't getting rave reviews...
