Idiot! This didn't just come out of the blue. This is a reply to the "Talk" black fathers give their sons telling them that Whitie perceives their kids as a homocide waiting to happen. This article simply explains the other side.

The most recent reference to the black "Talk" was in relation to Trayvon Martin who was apparently a homocide waiting to happen. He must have slept through the talk.

When I go to big American cities, I pre-check the geography and keep my eyes open.

Thomas Sowell has done some research on this, and finds it to be cultural. The current predominant "black" culture in the states was copied from poor whites in the south around the time slavery was outlawed. Crime (and other statistics) were used to follow the culture back over the ocean to Britain. The same outlook and "don't you dis me" culture that kept some Irish and Scottish clans from flourishing along with their neighbours continues to retard any group that practices that culture.

Derb is finally starting to get it as well, it seems. We just want to be openly proud of our identity and to protect our people, whilst dealing honestly with the differences between races at a general level.

When there are riot's in the streets, with burning cars and seriously injured people - who ya gonna blame?

Will it be the poor “disenfranchised youth”, their mentors, the race baiters in the media and Whitehouse?

None of the above is the answer of course; you will blame “Whitey”, with emphasis on the Conservative White who is generally against black baby abortions, against welfare ghettoization, against segregated black businesses/ colleges, racial hiring practices, and against the bigoted racist entitlement mentality that created it all.

The biggest puzzle is why would so called "white" communities continue to openly invite foreign cultures like Islam or black peoples (African American & African) knowing full well what troubles they bring.

Whether or not you believe they have a legitimate cause, why would you actively seek this sort of guaranteed civil discontent where it didn't exist before?

If you don't want to show pride and solidarity in a white identity, then everything you complain about will continue to happen. Differences in intelligence and behaviour between races is about as well documented as the theory of gravitation, or at least by the equivalent standards of social science.

I'm not really sure it's a good idea for conservative white people to highlight the cultural problems in the black community. There is something wrong just as there's something wrong in the first nations population in Canada but I don't think it helps to point it out. They need to do that. As Kate would say you're a racist for even reading this stuff.

This is something beyond race. I'm as white as they come and have had similar experiences as described by the writers who gave the "talk" to their black children. I have been pulled over by the cops and treated like a criminal for suspicious behavior, that at the time I had no idea I was exhibiting. I have experienced it as a lone english speaking person in a small very french community. Most of all I have experienced it when I've had to deal with government bureaucrats and regulators who hold my life in the balance on a regular basis. When coming face to face with all powerful government workers I have no choice other than to swallow my pride and be subservient regardless of what is right and what is wrong.

Thanks to 'martywd' I've finally been able to read the entire piece.

Some initial questions come to mind:

1. Is there any evidence that John Derbyshire is a man with low intelligence?
2. Is anything he has written in this piece factually inaccurate?

I do not know the answers to either of these questions. Perhaps you do.

Just a supposition here: Is it not possible that Mr. Derbyshire has grown sick & tired of the malevolent language espoused by Al Sharpton, Spike Lee, the Black Panthers, and others - all said with absolute impunity under the cover of political correctness? Perhaps his over-the-top piece was purely designed to point out the rampant double-standard in place in Western Culture today.

I'm not entirely sure how, but I'm convinced that stories like this are very much related to Derbyshire's piece.

The moment his colleagues at NRO, Rich Lowry & Jonah Goldberg, started apologizing for his piece, the race-baiters saw blood in the water. Now they will do everything they can to lynch Derbyshire. Just wait & see.

As the piece is a direct response to much applauded screeds about blacks talking to their kids about the dangers posed by whites, the context should tell you that advice about staying clear of punks regardless of colour strays from the topic.

John Derbyshire's been writing stuff like this for ever, BTW, so I doubt this will hurt him; and Takimag has always been a very free-wheeling "paleo-con" site. Taki himself is a very rich and aristocatic old Greek playboy who has nothing to fear from political correctness (you can probably find endless backlogs of his stuff in The (London) Spectator.

Personally, I think Derbyshire is seriously overrating innate as opposed to cultural racial differences; and yes, I do know lots of black people. But since DOJ head Eric Holder wants us all to have a non-cowardly discussion about race I'm perfectly cool with all sides being aired. From what I've seen of this absolutely lunatic "Trayvon" coverage, I think it's time for us all to have a very brave discussion about race.

The only thing in Derbyshire's article I found remotely objectionable is to seek out relationships with well socialized blacks as a preventative measure against accusations against racism. First, such actions are ineffective, as George Zimmerman can tell you. Also, it's just another form of affirmative action that doesn't help anyone - like hyping Herman Cain as a presidential candidate to run against Obama.

It didn't help either Cain or his supporters to hype him beyond is real support or abilities. That's what liberals do and we shouldn't be copying them.

I don't know how seriously Derbyshire was taking himself when he wrote that article, but if he was taking the IQ data at face value, I wish he'd stop. Part of my training required analyzing standardized verbal IQ measures. They generally consist of either point-to-the-picture vocabulary tasks, or tasks examining knowledge of syntactic structures. There is no rhyme or reason for the tokens chosen for the syntactic structure tasks - they are basically pulled out of the researcher's a$$.

My old supervisor used to design measures to assess language competence in children with Trisomy X. When I first heard of this, I was very impressed. "At last," I thought, "I going to learn some real science. They're going to take me into the basement of the department through the secret door, and there will be MRI machines and ERP equipment and guys scurrying around in white coats carrying clipboards and maybe some pickled brains in vats, and it will be COOL!"

What my prof actually said was: "Yes. It was quite difficult. All three of us working on the paper sat around in my office one morning and figured it out. It took at least two hours." I found out later that they had basically copied a task developed in the 1970s, with minor modifications. It was a list of grammar structures. The whole thing could have been done in the 12th century. These tasks are incredibly dependent on the child's educational environment.

In any case, I always enjoy reading Kathy Shaidle at Taki's.

I am however a cultural bigot.
I judge the actions of individuals and attribute them to their subculture. Stereo types of any nature my seem unfair, but they are always the result of statistically significant patterns in behavior.

There is not a "talk" in my house, rather a continuous process of instructive observations on the nature of people. It would be foolish not to take into account the experiences of others. Unfortunately, criminal statistics do little to move us beyond race; and, in some contexts, race does little to move beyond criminal statistics.
