Meet the People’s Rights Amendment.

...it’s important to recognize that the proposal goes far beyond denying free speech rights to entities organized as corporations. It would deny them all other constitutional rights as well. Section 1 of the proposed amendment states that the “the rights protected by this Constitution” are limited to “the rights of natural persons.”

Notice that this is not limited to free speech rights or even to First Amendment rights generally. Section emphasizes that “People, person, or persons as used in this Constitution does not include corporations, limited liability companies or other corporate entities established by the laws of any state, the United States, or any foreign state.” Notice that this is not limited to for-profit corporations lobbying for their narrow self-interest. It applies to all corporations of any kind, including nonprofits, media corporations, churches, and others.

Thus, the PRA would deny all constitutional rights to all entities organized as corporations. If the Amendment passes, government would be free to search corporate-owned premises at will, restrict freedom of religion at houses of worship owned by corporate entities (which includes most churches), condemn corporate-owned property for private uses and without paying compensation...

Just a few years ago, or even a few months ago, I would have thought that there was no way something so stupid, so ignorant, so utterly flat earther, could get any traction in a nation that had a 50%+ literacy rate. I do not think that any more. It is very frightening that a way of life that has brought so much happiness and prosperity to millions is under deliberate attack by those that have seen the horrors their own philosophy has inflicted.

i guess it would actually be real people who would be charged as opposed to the (corporation).

old white guy.

I'm automatically suspicious of anything called "The People's X".

Doesn't this break a whole bunch of the "Congress shall make no law..." thingies?

@old white guy....only certain people, the right kind of people, would get charged: those that resist the "will" of the "people".

I suspect that suspicion is warrented when such amendments are proposed by a de facto fascist administration....rife with crony capitalism...a feature of fascism.

It's all about power and control....

It turns out that Atlas Shrugged was only partly fiction. :-(

What Sean said.

Lenin would approve.

The Leftards had better be careful what they ask for. Imagine what would happen to their network of non-profit (heh) foundations if a conservative government ever came into power.

Socialists, fascists, communists and other assorted totalitarian minded, dictatorial minded, for all practical purposes, lawyers, seem to be getting upper hand on the population.

You see, as it is now, the corporations, associations and other such are of wide variety of opinions and thinking, so there is check and balance as long as there is no interference from the ruling class
Ruling class of course includes the mass media, as long as they report, rather than direct the masses, things work, on the balance, a OK.

Once the totalitarian control freaks get their way, there would be only one way to get the message out, whatever message, and that would be by state controlled media
It's interesting to point out, that the media are also corporate entities. Then the question would be who would approve what they allowed to say, print and broadcast.

This is mind boggling, how lawyers are gathering more and more power to control population. The population seem to bend over backwards with their heads up gathering more and more power to control population.
The population seem to bend over backwards with their heads up you know where to avoid hearing, seeing and talking, that way they feel good and everything is pretend sailing smooth.

Would like to point out that growing in a totalitarian peoples dictatorship, this is most frightening, not that the sky is falling, it just that they even think this kind of stuff.

Many of you may not know that the among the main ideas of the totalitarian regimes in socialist countries run by communists was this actual statement "dictatorship of proletariat".

How is it, here ask again, that free people are so ready to succumb to others will?

These IDIOTS have no idea how their Constitution is set up in the first place, or the nature of its function or purpose!
A Constitution doesn't GRANT rights! I don't need some GD politician or government to have rights...those rights ALREADY exist.
What a Constitution does (or at least is supposed to do) is act as a guarantee for pre-existing rights.

No, San Fran Nan jumping in with both big feet before she knows what's in the thing? How unusual...

I guess it's another of those "pass it to find out" things that nobody can decipher.

As long as the tax exempted charitable Al Sharpton Corporation gets its say, America has nothing to worry about.

Why didn't they simply make up a list of who they wanted to shut up? Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, SDA, etcetera.............

I think that this needs a lot more debate and discussion.

This seems like an Obama tactic to remove the SCOTUS decision of defining corporations, legally, as 'people'. Remember how Obama openly insulted the supreme court justices sitting before him in his State of the Union, for doing so, and how he openly rejected and derided their decision in various speeches?

First, what is a corporation within the terms of this proposal? Is it an organized collective? But the right to assemble is a basic first amendment right. So is freedom of speech.

Wouldn't this include, therefore, unions? Would this mean that unions would no longer be allowed to, as unions, donate massive funding to the Democratic Party?

Would a political party be defined as a corporation? What about the government?

Well butter my buns and call me a biscuit I am canceling my GBTV subscription because Glen did not warn us about stuff like this.

Oh wait!

The constitution is clearly a serious impediment for the Obama government.

What we are witnessing in the U.S. is a rapid descent into fascism. People of virtue need to prepare for the worst.

Most American constitutional amendments limited the power of government.

This one expands it.

Anything that begins with "The People's..." probably has nothing to do with the people; but rather is a tool for the governing class.

This is simply throwing 'The Peoples Spanner" into the Constiution with the express purpose of undermining it.

A more accurate description would be the "People's Rights Abrogation Act".

Have a nice day...

Well, that should do for the US.

The limited liability stock-issuing corporation is arguably the greatest of all human inventions.
It is certainly the one which has brought the most good to the greatest numbers of people, exceeding even the greatest medical advances.

Here is a story about fascism.

There was a wild animal that could never be caught. It was too smart for the trappers. Too clever for the hunters. A collector wanted to capture it. So he hired the best hunter money could buy.

The collector asked the hunter what he would need.

The hunter turned to the collector and said one word: "Time." So he gave him a year.

The hunter went to the animal's roaming area and left some food there. He came back and saw that it was not touched. The next night he did the same. And once again it was not touched. The animal was very suspicious. After a few weeks of this, finally the animal took the food. There was no trap. The animal began to let down its guard and ate each night from that spot where the hunter left the food.

After a month of this the hunter put a railing near the food. The animal sniffed around that night and did NOT eat the food. But every night the same food was delivered and eventually the animal went back to eating it.

Bit by bit the hunter built railings and fence posts. Every time the animal got suspicious, the hunter would stop building - but continue to leave the food. After some months, and with nothing much happening as a consequence, the animal had stopped hunting altogether and became reliant on the hunter's food drop-offs.

As the hunter built the fence around the food drop-off site, the openings had become smaller and smaller until there was only one opening left (about 2 feet wide). But the animal was clever enough to find it. Eventually the gap was only wide enough for the animal top squeeze thru.

One night, the animal crept through the fence and sauntered toward the food. Behind it it could hear a strange sound. That was the sound of the gap being closed up.

Thats how things like fascism happen. You don't know it until it is too late. Even though plenty of others try to tell you.

Posturing, like pretty much all proposed amendments.

Revealing, though.

(Makes me wonder if the idiots who wrote it realize it strips their PACs and other support corporations of property and speech rights?)

Excellent parable Shawn. Kate had a video up here at SDA a few days ago 'slowly, slowly" that said the same thing in less picturesque words.

Just as Sean and Ken(Kulak) said above: 'Lenin would be proud.'

Maybe SDA should post more about Lenin and that miserable little piece of garbage 'Che!' (gravera) and the Che pal thug, Castro. Some fool people wear Che! tee shirts in Canada and USA. Dr. Zhivago (Omar Sharif) should have never been selected to play that egregious worm Che; he is way too handsome and classy to play that vermin, IMO. Made the filthy murderer look like a hero.

Well, this is a terrible idea but under Article 5 of our Constitution, it would require 2/3's of both houses of congress and 3/4's of the states. Good luck with that. Or, 3/4th's of the states could call for a new Constitutional Convention in which by precedent they would be empowered to start with a blank sheet of paper. Since James Madison is not available for Constitution drafting, the very thought of that idea makes most people weak in the knees. I think most Americans have had enough of Nancy Pelosi for one lifetime.
