In tonight's Tips music, from 1966, the late Don Van Vliet, a.k.a. Captain Beefheart, asks a question that a lot of Alberta voters are going to be muttering tomorrow when they see their PC candidate's name on the ballot: Who Do You Think You're Fooling?

Left is right, up is down, the sun sets in the east, and...
The French socialist Hollande showed a narrow lead in the presidential election with 27.9% to Sarkozy's 26.7% - much narrower than polling predicted. The two front-runners will face a run-off election because no candidate got more than 50% of the vote.
Marine LePen of the right-wing Front National showed its strongest support yet with 19.3% of the vote.
The far-Left party of Melenchon got 10.8% of the vote.
The centrist candidate Bayrou got 9.8%.
If all of the FN votes go to Sarkozy, all of Melenchon's votes go to Hollande, and all other votes/proportions/turnout remain unchanged, Hollande would need to pick up at least 73.9% of the votes for Bayrou and other candidates in order to beat Sarkozy.
Put another way, if the voters for Bayrou and other candidates split in the same proportions that Hollande and Sarkozy received in the primary, more than 35% of the NF voters would have to refuse to turn out for Sarkozy for him to lose.
So even though Sarkozy looks wounded, he has a pretty good chance of winning re-election.
The big question is whether the Far Right FN will decide to hold their noses and choose the lesser of two evils. They already refer to him as the "outgoing president," but that is likely pre-election bravado.
This is their golden opportunity to negotiate with Sarkozy's government. Instead of moving French politics to the Left, this election might move it considerably to the Right.

Gawd but that's funny. The standards are so low that no one can find them anymore. If he was white his chance of getting re-elected would be close to zero. The so called high standard is nothing more than the inability for the left to admit they made a huge mistake in voting politically correct instead of rationally. Just like Jack Layton promised everything to everyone without a hope in hell of delivering, Obama did the same thing. The main difference is Jack was smart and probably believed in his fairy tales where Obama is just power hungry and will hang on to his god-like status at any cost. He will not change direction even if it destroys the country. What makes the man truly dangerous is that he is even further to the left than Jack was. Math is definately his weakest point and he would not understand this debt clock.

Nothing against Black presidents. Herman Cain would have been a far better man and the real possibility of hope and change. If this incumbent fool get's another term the USA is sunk, in part thanks to MSNBC and all the other apologist MSM's that can't see the forest because all the trees are in the way.

Whiny old Kinsella has his knickers in a twist over the Alberta election:
http://m.torontosun.com/2012/04/20/smith-about-to-graduate-from-kook-to-fool
No surprise of course. But Kinsella is also the same old hypocrite he has always been. He writes:
"Stephen Harper isn’t a kook. I’m a Liberal and liberal, and I think he’s pretty smart"
This is the same Kinsella that took every opportunity possible on his blog to trash and bash Harper in the last election.
Tj: it looks very likely that the wildrose will win a majority tomorrow. let's make a note to check In four years from now and see who the Kook is - warren or danielle smith.
Gord I agree. Indeed the fact that Kinsella is up in arms over Smith will only make the victory that much sweeter.
On an entirely different note, here are the stats for car sales last year (2011):
Total new vehicles sold in Canada: 1,585,519
Total electric vehicles sold: 468
Happy Earth Day! HA!
We need kinsella to define the opposite ends of the bookends. On one end Wildrose, on the other end Liberal wannabees and their dismal record. Kinsella sets the standard for the east and wildrose for the west. May the best woman win.

Would be interesting to see who actually bought the EV's. Bet the taxpayers bought at least half.
Not sure of the CTV Earth Day poll was cited already. If not its URL is pasted at the bottom.
The results at 10:30 MDT are:
I'll do something special 282 votes (13 %)
Business as usual 1203 votes 57 %)
Bah, humbug 614 votes (29 %)
Okay so that is pretty funny in itself, but the REAL funny is the disconnect between the actual poll and two headlines below it:

How the hell can this be a "most talked about story" when no one really cares about Earth Day?

The other half of the EVs sold were bought by non-taypayers? How do you figure that?

You're right, sloppy question. Meant municipal, provincial or federal. Indirect taxpayers.
Some may have noticed that I won't be voting Progressive Conservative. It hasn't always been that way. On the 18th of June, 1959 my Father ran for the Alberta Progressive Conservative party. I was eleven. He didn't win but ran a good second. He ran because he felt that the govenment of the day (Social Credit) had been in power to long and needed changing. At that point the SoCreds had been in power since 1935. It took another 12 years for the Tories to replace the SoCreds. By 1971, I had come of age and voted for the PCs, who under Peter Lougheed ousted the Social Credit Government. I was a faithful PC for many years afterward and never failed to support them at the ballot box. No more. This PC government no longer represents my values. I believe the Wildrose Party does and as such will get my vote. If my Dad were alive today he would concur.
Kinsella's column was his third consecutive on Wildrose versus the PCs by my count.
I suspect the hysteria over Wildrose is really based on the fact that if they win the election and implement pro-freedom policies that respect the rights of business and its productivity, and other provinces follow suit, there might not be any more need for the services of "political consultants" who advocate interventionist policies that waste taxpayers' money.

As in how many municipal, provincial or federal departments bought EVs?
What point are you trying to make?
The stock markets react to the prospect of a socialist president in France.
Kate MCMillan's "Small Dead Animals" blog from Delisle Saskatchewan is making life difficult for Redford's PC's in Alberta.
Alberta Voter's will embrace Danielle Smith's WildRose party.
I hope Tim Hudak in Ontario will find his GONADS and back the Harness Horsemen's Association in the OLG debacle, adopt the Smith's Wildrose Party platform and then take the "progressive" lefty McGuinty to the wall in an early Ontario election!!
North_of_60 the point he is trying to make is that some percentage of the EVs that were bought were probably purchased by the government or companies as fleet cars.
Of the 468 sold, the actual number that were purchased by individuals with money out of their own pockets may very well be quite small.
"When Trudeau and company stayed at that hotel, or other hotels such as the Ritz in New York, did they return the money?? And when the staff (Fifth Estate) of the CBC sent a hoard of reporters to Germany to investigate the Karlheinz Schreiber and Brian Mulronay affair, were they accountable to the Canadian taxpayer?? Just thought I'd ask."
The headline at CBC.Ca reads: "Oda pays taxpayers back for $665 nightly hotel stay."
That was my commnent on CBC.Ca this AM when the news broke that Bev Oda returned some of the money she had spent when staying at the Savoy in London. Doubt if it will get published.
All you have to know about the decline of Ontario is shown in the picture of every parasitic group feeding off the rotting corpse at Queen's Park Saturday protest. The greed and arrogance of these people is beyond understanding. They care absolutely nothing about how broke this province is, only about keeping their gravy train running.
McGuinty's government is a failure in everything from health, education to energy. Just think of it, from a debt of $138B in 2003 to $315B with a deficit of $30B+ by 2015.
And now he is promising another $1/4B to buy off the NDP. Haven't we seen this before where Rae and Petersen kissed, which led to the debacle of the NDP government under Rae.
Laugh when I see the sign "Respect Teachers". Whatever for as their left-wing agenda over the last 40 years have led to what we see in so many countries. Universities must now provide remedial English, Grammar and Math as their incoming students are functionally illiterate and university is now the new high school.
Its "all for the children" as a teacher tops out at $97,000 this year but ever rising as McGuinty knuckles under to their union's demands but its all good for him as his wife will get her increase as one of these teachers.
The NDP has lost a member over the LGR vote.
MP Hyer will sit as an independent, details to follow, but from what I've heard Nicole Turmel basically cut all privileges that they possibly could to the two MP's that voted against the party's wishes.
