With regard to the GSA spending scandal regarding trips to Vegas, Hawaii, Florida - we know that Obama has, as usual, blamed the 'culture of spending' on, guess who, Bush. Obama informed us that the GSA spent a lot under Bush and didn't stop them. Hmm.

The spending has escalated under obama and FOX news (Greta) had a clip on today about Harry Reid from 2009. Apparently Bush had disallowed the GSA from holding any of their meetings in Vegas and Florida - because they were using these meetings as party bashes.

Reid in 2009 (with Obama as President) announced that this rule against Vegas and Florida was rescinded and GSA could go and spend in these places.
Of course, Reid's focus was on spending, spending, in his his electoral district of Vegas.

So much for Blaming Bush.

Saw this news about Canada's oldest resident dying at 113 years. They ran a pic of the dearly departed with Allison Redford and I think she comes across looking like the Grim Reaper.

I reckon it might be a deliberate choice by some newsy as her campaign circles the drain and the PC government is on death watch.

PS: I truly enjoyed you piece on the shelterbelts, and your musings about growing on a farm and driving your Dad`s IHC Cub Cadet etc.

I lived in an area (SW Sask) where there were several miles of shelterbelts that had been planted by a tree club back in the 50's. They varied from 500 feet apart to a row every half mile. The wildlife that came out of those trees was amazing. Sadly however, in the 90's, farmers started bulldozing them in piles in order to accommodate larger equipment. Yet on a mile, they took less than two acres of land. Continuous cropping has all but eliminated erosion, however it doesn't do a damned thing for the wind that blows day and night. Que sera sera!

There was a fellow named Alf Bryan who wrote in Grainews; his column was named "I may be wrong but..." He likened the bulldozing of trees and cleaning up of old yard sites to an army cleaning up in the aftermath of a battle. Sad but often necessary. I was in Europe a nfew eyars ago, the same scene was unfolding over there. In England, their famous hedgerows are fast disappearing.

In a 100 years from now-who will they blame??

Re Omar -- I heard somewhere that his being able to return to Canada had been agreed to at the time of his guilty plea -- I think it may have been part of the deal. Good for Conservatives for holding out on repatriation at that earlier point. Had he come back before being designated as guilty of a crime, Canada would not have been able to keep him in jail as he was not charged with a crime in Canada. At this point if he returns, he will remain incarcerated at least until his sentence is served.
