Stephen Taylor took a look at a Alberta PC ad, and noticed something funky: the "Albertan" drilling rig in the background is an offshore oil platform off China in the Yellow Sea. Nice one Allison.

the British labour party finally grows a pair...or borrows one....
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2130256/Lord-Ahmed-Rotherham-offers-10m-bounty-detain-Obama.html
(Daily Mail) — A Labour peer was suspended last night after allegedly claiming he would put up a £10million bounty for the capture of Barack Obama.
Lord Ahmed of Rotherham is reported to have made the gesture after the U.S. announced a $10million bounty for Hafiz Muhammed Saeed, whom it blames for orchestrating the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
Pakistani-born Lord Ahmed, Britain’s first Muslim peer, reportedly said Mr Obama had ‘challenged the dignity of the Muslim Ummah (community)’ and said his reward also applied to Mr Obama’s predecessor as U.S. president, George W Bush.
A Labour spokesman said: ‘We have suspended Lord Ahmed pending investigation. If these comments are accurate we utterly condemn these remarks which are totally unacceptable.
Excellent eye there Stephen Taylor... I'm certain the P.C.'s I work with will have a plausible explanation for this misunderstanding tomorrow.
Kate, I've never watched the Ascot races before this, only the ladies hats... how interesting to see a straight horse race run on grass.. super cool.

Kenyan businesses lately are increasingly becoming recipients of U.S. government largesse, as the Obama Administration, among pursuing other endeavors, aims to expand "livestock-related economic opportunities" in that nation.

The Globe and Mail has a column by John Ibbitson praising the Canadian Charter as a 'model for the world', claiming that its insights, brilliance and freedoms far outweight the essentially decrepit US Constitution and Bill of Rights.
The comments on the article are incredible; the G&M is a basic site of intense, frothing, foaming hatred of Harper. The viciouos verbal descriptions of Harper are comparable to those against Bush, Palin, and the infamous in the Third Reich.
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/john-ibbitson/the-charter-proves-to-be-canadas-gift-to-world/article2403254/
The comments utterly and totally ignore two basic problems: The first is the Charter's focus on privileging identity-groups, setting up these groups as homogeneous and with group rights trumping those of any individual and thus, the Charter obliviates any 'fundamental rights' of the individual. [Note- we are all members of an identity group, be it gender, religion, etc. and the Charter's focus on this facet denies our individual status outside of these descriptions]
Second, the Charter's key focus is on establishing the domination of bilingualism in our federal govt - despite the fact that 80% of Canadians are not bilingual.
Thus, I fail to see how the Charter is a model for a global world - and I am constantly astonished by the vitriol of the anti-Harper rhetoric in the G&M.
terrorists lose 35 out of 36 attackers...guess it's kind of hard to run away in a burqa...
http://www.cnn.com/2012/04/16/world/asia/afghanistan-violence/index.html
Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) – The lone survivor in a group of 36 insurgents who carried out a series of sustained assaults in Kabul and across eastern parts of Afghanistan told officials he had been working for the Haqqani network, a ruthless, well-trained organization linked to al Qaeda.
The majority of the attackers used women’s clothing — with burqas covering their faces — in order to reach their intended positions, Mohammadi said.
They even “had bunches of flowers in their car in Kabul order to show off that they were women and they were going to a wedding party or something like that,” he said.

re. Paul and Robert W., here's the charming nurse Tomlinson's twitter thingy. Serves to confirm my prejudice against people who use the word "snark", as well as my prejudice against people who think nurses are "angels" who deserve more money. (Some nurses are wonderful selfless blah blah.)

Pat Martin (NDP mouthpiece) is in the soup AGAIN.
OTTAWA - Bombastic NDP MP Pat Martin removed a foot from his mouth long enough to offer his mea culpas for "wrongfully accusing" a private individual and his business for electoral fraud during the robocall affair.
Martin was also authorized to offer penance on behalf of the NDP for related statements made on the party website.
"I singled out a private individual, Mr. Matt Meier, along with his business RackNine Inc., and I wrongfully accused them of being part of a conspiracy to commit electoral fraud," an unusually contrite Martin said Monday, reading from a written statement.

I just watched this video concerning the shaky philosophical foundations of our current scientific mindset. My brain is absolutely spinning. Many of the points made here plug into conformist thinking on various eco-issues etc, and the use of bullying techniques to shut up any "heretics" who question settled science, but you may find this mind-bending on a cosmological level as well.
The speaker is Rupert Sheldrake, who as his PhD in biochemistry from Cambridge. See his bio at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rupert_Sheldrake

ET: "I am constantly astonished by the vitriol of the anti-Harper rhetoric in the G&M" Yes -- not much thinking going on at G&M. I think it is populated by many youth and heavy duty union types. The CBC site is not much better -- for vitriol, with the additional disadvantage that when you post something you have to wait for a couple of hours before the comment shows up. Increasingly neither of these sites is worth posting on.
