Can't help but notice how prominent the word Democratic is in the party name, yet all of their MPs are required to do as the party leader tells them.

Not a surprise. The Saskatchewan boys mostly supported other candidates for the leadership. Tommy's a very different lad than Jack was. He's not tolerating any policy riots in HIS party. And so the Dippers fade into the sunset in the west. And the Dippers become a regional party in Quebec, the province where marginal parties starting in western Canada go to die.

Did you see Mulcair's commercial? It was all Jack! all the time. I expect them to trot our Zombie Jack! al a an embalmed Lenin come the next election. :)

The most hilarious part of this strategy is that the Quebec electorate is so fickle that they can pander all they like and they will always be one election away from total destruction.

Given the wide public support for ending the cash sucking registry, I figure the Dips just spiked their chances of getting more than 10 seats outside Quebec.

I suspect Conservatives will make a good attack ad related to reestablishing the gun registry -- a very, very dumb idea -- even if you liked it. In a way, it is like revisiting the gay marriage issue which no politician would dare do at this point.

When he made his first speech and did not repeat the french parts into english, I figured the guy had two messages, in a way confirming that he believes that old trudeau myth of the two solitudes. The one where the ROC makes laws that don't apply in Quebec, and Quebec makes laws that apply not only in Quebec but in the rest of Canada.
It's also the same basic principle that any social program dreamed up by the political class in Quebec, the federal government is obligated to help fund it.
Jack made a deal with Mucliar to gain support in Quebec.
The last guy that made a deal with such an individual in return for support in Quebec was Mulroney.
