Sounds like a man of some achievement who was there and knows what he's talking about, as opposed to a bunch of flatland hillbillies and rageaholics.

Periodically, the people of Toronto are held hostage by various "public sector" unions, who insist their work is indispensable to our lives, and then use their government-enforced monopoly to make our lives miserable until they get what they want.

During Mr. Rae's tenure, a group without a monopoly of any kind, and acting not in concert, but individually, chose to withdraw their services. Unlike the unions, anyone who wanted to move into the breach was free to do so; few did.

These people had many names - entrepeneurs, investors, even (gasp) capitalists - but the impact of their strike was profound. The Occupy movement may sneer at and denigrate them, but effects on society of a capital strike dwarf those of any union.

Let's see what else. Oh yes, record high wage giveaways to the public sector entitled labour unions. Didn't work too well, did it, when the money ran out and you had to introduce Rae Days? And the ungrateful swine still went out on strike.

Oh and how about your glorious appointments of Maurice Strong and Marc Eliesen, who between them as Chairs of Ontario Hydro ran the world's greatest electric utility into the ground? Oh, and bankrupted the utility to boot? And demolished its nuclear reactor performance? And drained it of its skilled maintenance and operating personnel?

Oh, and no mention of record provincial fiscal deficits, are there?

And no mention of shovelling about $200 million into the hands of the Dippers' ecofreak friends through the Ontario Hydro DSP review process, is there?

Oh, and of course you're not going to mention Uncle Mo's adventures in buying Costa Rica rainforest at Ontario ratepayer's expense, just so Uncle Mo could build his World University. And you're not going to mention how Uncle Mo just accidentally on purpose seized land from Costa Rica aboriginals for his WU and later had to flee to Canada when the whole project went belly-up, leaving Costa Rican businesses with unpaid invoices.

And you're not going to mention how Uncle Mo got Ontario Hydro to pay for his mega-million dollar campaign to become Sec. Gen. of the UN, are you?

And no mention of course of how Ontario Hydro Chairman Marc Eliesen fired Ontario Hydro President Hart because he was jealous of the size of Hart's office. And of course you're not going to mention how Eliesen raided the funds to complete Darlington to pay for demand management and electricity efficiency program giveaways.

Are you not going to give us a list of blindingly incompetent ministers that Rae had to sack for incapacity in office? No mention whatsoever of Buddyboy Wildman?

The list of failures of this administration would fill an encyclopedia, Timmyboy. But you'd really rather not have us remember any of this, would you? Just as you'd rather not have us remmember Red Floyd's afternoon office encounters when he was supposed to be provincial treasurer.

November 7th of 1993 I was hauling a load of frozen food from Toronto to Montreal. There was a freezing rain that left 2 inches of ice on the 401. The weather had cleared by noon but the ice remained. For some reason the sand trucks weren't out doing there job. In areas vehicles were driving 5-10 miles an hour and traffic was re-routed in several areas do to wrecks and rollovers. Exactly at the Quebec border the roads had been sanded and salted so everything was fine the rest of the way.

There were over 300 cars and light trucks in the ditch that night as well as over 100 tractor trailer units. Amazingly no one was killed, at least to my knowledge.

The reason that the Ontario salt trucks weren't out there doing their job is because Bob Rae and the NDP decided not to send them out before November 15th in an effort to save money.

Bob Rae is considered a failure for millions of reasons.

I will say one thing, the more liberal a leader, the more conservative the next one is likely to be.

Ontarians were so horrified by Rae, that the next election they voted in the PC's.

I may be wrong, but my impression is that whenever the liberals lose power, it can go to either the NDP or the PC. Whenever the NDP loses power, it usually goes to the PC's.

Let's not forget all the leftwing judges Rae appointed during his term. They were appointed for life and we'll be suffering from their socialist decisions for a long time.

Why does Bob Rae always look so bitter when attacking the Conservatives? It looks like he believes his rhetoric. And why have the last 5? Liberal leaders look so old that statistics say they are more suited for a cemetery than Sussex Drive. And the fools try to sell grandpa as cool.

Some day the Liberals might develop policy beyond "don't vote for the scary Conservatives." Some day the Liberals might also hold a leadership convention and elect a leader that doesn't scare small children but by then it may all be irrelevant.

When I mention to my lefties how come the province soared just days after Harris' election they have no answer or Rae had set up everything and Harris took the credit.

This is an attempt by Rae's camp to try to expunge the truth about his reign so that by 2015,the public will be convinced the stories of Rae's blunders were just the ravings of the Conservative media.

The NDP here in B.C. are trying the same stunt. Slowly,but surely, articles are appearing in the MSM and on blogs claiming that the NDP weren't really as bad as we were told,and they left the Province in great shape.

The facts that they drove mining,forestry,and construction out of the Province,and made B.C.'s ship building industry a laughingstock for the world,is now irrelevant.

So many good posts above as to why re-writing history usually fails. Bob was/is a typical politician and all the wheels fell off when he hitched on to the Union wagon in the standard NDP fashion. Seriously, the number one hindrance to the recovery of the federal Liberals is having Bob Rae anywhere near the helm.
