Is There Nothing That Obama Can't Do?

Taking the "family" ouf of "family farm".

The Department of Labor is poised to put the finishing touches on a rule that would apply child-labor laws to children working on family farms, prohibiting them from performing a list of jobs on their own families’ land.

Under the rules, children under 18 could no longer work “in the storing, marketing and transporting of farm product raw materials.”

[...]

The new regulations, first proposed August 31 by Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, would also revoke the government’s approval of safety training and certification taught by independent groups like 4-H and FFA, replacing them instead with a 90-hour federal government training course.

To be fair, you can't expect Obama to understand the culture of American agriculture. The guy never worked a day in his life.

Yeah, just read this over at Drudge. Surprising, no but on the bright side any family farm that isn't belly up can hire undocumented workers to do the chores. Frees up farm kids to do whatever the inner city kids do in their spare time.

Texas Canuck, "Frees up farm kids to do whatever the inner city kids do in their spare time." I think that is Obama's plan.

Why eighteen? If he wants to destroy the family farm and create collectives filled with migrant workers he should at minimum follow the Soviets system which forced fourteen year old children of kulaks to quit school and begin working on the collective farms.

The guy never worked a day in his life.

If that is true, he must therefore be well acquainted with the culture of kulak agriculture.

This is what happens when you hire a communist to run the country. The goal seems to be to destroy the family unit and replace it with government paid substitutes like government sponsored daycare, all day kindergarten and an intrusive school system. No wonder more and more people are choosing to home school their children rather than turn them over to the state for indoctrination.

As they say in Alberta, "You get what you voted for."

Pretty soon the government of the USA will make it a crime to have children: take out the garbage, do dishes, make the bed, mow the lawn etc.

4-H is one of the programs that give farm children pride in their work and their programs would make any city "program" look small when it comes to making a strong productive citiczen. I am surprised they did not ban playing in the yard.

Frankemm nails it.

Good way to kill off the family farm, let the big industry collective farms take over, voila...gov't is in complete charge of the food supply.

Right out of the communist handbook.

If all it takes to qualify for president of USA is to be a community organiser then farm kids are way over-qualified.

I am sure that our great leader 'O' was just planning his succession 40 years hence and wanted farm kids to have a fair chance to replace him!! After all, it's all about forcing equal outcomes.

Wasn't it just yesterday Davenport was implying my tinfoil hat was too tight when I suggested all the US aerial surveillance drone sites were not where one would expect?

How do you catch Farmer John's kids working when they aren't allowed to? Aerial photography. How do you do that really cheap? Autonomous robot aircraft.

BTW, did y'all know the US Dept. of Agriculture has a SWAT team? Also the US Dept. of Education. Yup for real they do, google it baby.

Do they have to launch a frickin' airstrike on some pig farmer before I'm allowed to start connecting dots here?

In other news, sales of small arms and ammunition continues to make new records, and interest in .50 cal rifles is hot. Might be because you can hit a Skynet Terminator a mile away with one of those things. People watching too many Ahhhnold movies, that's gotta be it.

By the by, Canadians are not allowed to own .50 caliber rifles or ammunition. Classified as an explosive device y'know. Can't have guys running around with that, by Jimminy Cricket's little yellow spats.

Kate, sadly, this item would be equally at home under the rubric of "The Decline And Fall Of The American Empire

another jack boot law that will give the gov. the power to take the farm family to court.

once charged, it will cost thousands to fight.

this clown and his minions are doing their best to wreck america.
sadly, i bet half of america isn't even paying attention.
i hope i'm wrong, we will know in nov.

What's OBAMA got to lose? It's not like the people who voted for him spend a lot of time working in any event, let alone the work required for farming.

Now...if they were to draft a law stating that any person under the age of 18 wasn't allowed to shoot hoops unless they maintained at least a grade average of C+, then there would be some real outrage.

In Obamaland, there is no room for oppressive notions like the family; motherhood; men; the individual; self-sufficiency; responsibility; intelligence; discipline, the work ethic; objectivity; truth; rationality. A child's place is in the state-run schools, where are force fed the lies that will render them all but useless for anything but compliance.

Cultural Marxism. We shall reap the whirlwind.

The Obama administration has been defined by its open aggressive attack on small agri producers.

Swat team raids by FDA and USDA to seize organic produce, raw milk etc. has escalated to alarming proportions. Aside from the anti-competition cronyism in these federal departments which have become revolving door administrations from the board rooms of big Agra and big pharma, I believe the administration is doing its part to implement UN agenda 21 which wants most of the land in small private hands to revert to government control and become a national “green belt” (envisioned in Agenda 21).

The destruction of the family farm, the small organic producer and the co-ops which patronize locally produced food, must all vanish if the sustainability agenda of converting farm land to UN bioshere parkland is to come about.

If you get the chance, watch the documentary on federal hostility toward small family farms called “Farmageddon”. The feds and big agra don’t want you questioning/knowing where your food comes from or how it is grown and are dedicated to removing any choice or independence where food production is concerned.

However the drug running across the southern US Border States must continue enabling the big banks to launder drug money as they do. For some strange reason the statist government can win the war on private and organic private food production but cannot win the war on drugs. The Mennonites and Hudderites will be higher priority criminals than the Central American drug cartels.

I know it doesn't apply here in AB(yet),but what about my grandkiddies helping me in my veggie plot/flower bed? Ahhhhhh.Socialist/commie asshats are so kind.Remember....IT'S FOR THE CHILDREN!

It's a ploy to force US farmers to take on illegal migrant workers.

The Gestapo shows up on your farm and finds your 16 year old son doing chores you’re shut down. If they find Pedro and his 9 kids without papers, the subsides will flow.

I am sure I read it on SDA but is there also not a plan to force licensing of tractor operators?

// Taking the "family" ouf of "family farm". //

The proposed regulations would not apply to children working on farms owned by their parents.
[e.g.]
regulations prohibiting agricultural work with animals and in pesticide handling, timber operations, manure pits and storage bins ... cultivation, harvesting and curing of tobacco....from using electronic, including communication, devices while operating power-driven equipment.
[and again]
The FLSA also provides a complete exemption for youths employed on farms owned by their parents.

The public is invited to provide comments on this important proposal

Perhaps Patrick Richardson means the Monsanto family.

My question is: Who is going to be doing the 90 hours of instruction in the DoA's training program?

More tax dollars being taken from the citizens to train somebody by "the book" on how to farm. Probably get inner-city work program applicants who couldn't tell a Holstein from a Herford.

Idiots!!!!

Unfreakinbelievable!!!!

Some of the new police armored vehicles being rolled out across the US are unbelievable, some new ones I’ve seen pictures of actually pull little “pill box’s” behind them to be set up as portable armored checkpoints.

BTW, you can buy .50 cal rifles here in Canada I’ve seen plenty of them in nearly every gun shop in my area. Ammo runs close to $10.00 a round. I couldn’t tell ya if any were semi auto, mostly bolt action I believe but my personal interest in them goes as far as seeing them sit on the store shelf.

Go to Wolverine supplies.com they have an Accuracy Arms currently for sale $10,500.00 but I know you can get others cheaper at plenty of other places.

The main competition is corporate farming. The idea is to put regulatory burdens on the family farm in terms of labor and environmental policies that will drive them out of business. Obama is not a socialist he is a fascist and is doing his masters biding. Romney will be no better.

it's not "is there anything he can't do" it's "is there anything he WON'T do"....

http://constitutionclub.org/2012/04/18/here-come-the-green-police-dhs-launches-environmental-justice-units/

...the Department of Homeland Security has announced that it is creating “environmental justice” units that will be empowered to oversee regulations in conjunction with local governments throughout the country. The framework for the Environmental Justice Working Group includes eleven federal government agencies, including the TSA, the Secret Service and FEMA.

In its just-released Environmental Justice Strategy document, the DHS says the idea is to “include environmental justice practices in our larger mission efforts involving federal law enforcement and emergency response activities” and to incorporate environmental justice in “securing the homeland.”

...Our nation’s vision of homeland security is a homeland that is safe and secure, resilient against terrorism and other hazards - where American interests and aspirations, and the American way of life can thrive. In seeking to fulfill this vision, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) aspires to avoid burdening minority and low-income populations with a disproportionate share of any adverse human health or environmental risks associated with our efforts to secure the nation...

Next thing you know, the average Joe won't be able to afford to put a dog on the table!

What's the big deal?

Future farmers will just learn to be farmers the way others learn their occupation. At school. In a liberal arts college.

There's no real difference in running a 1000 head dairy farm, or say, being an environmental activist. Is there?

Knight, I know the Barret .50 was banned, guess I was wrong about the cartridge itself being banned. Hard to keep up these days.

Seems to me that the report on "Acorn" was retitled "4H", or is this anticipating planning on the part of the Obama Administration.

I do hope the "First Lady" does not bring her children with her when she weeds the vegetable garden at the White House. Cheers

I hear the future sound of showering warm brass clinking on the ground. "What's that clicking noise"

When I was too young to effectively pick rocks, I did the only sensible thing - I drove the tractor at about 5 - old hand clutch Case. Didn't do me any harm.

My granddaughter is running into something similar. She WANTS and is being encouraged to get a summer job to pay for her own school clothes.
The left might consider that a radical concept.
But no one will hire her because she isn't 15...and any business would be in deep do-do with the Ministry of Labour if they did.
So she is going to learn the finer points of house painting taught by moi this summer.
BTW...her father was driving tractor when he was 8...not on the road mind you...he had to wait til he was 10 to do that.

ChrisOntario:

yes, the US gov't wanted to license all farm equipment as commercial vehicles, preventing anyone under 16 from using them, and making a commercial driver's license a pre-requisite. At the same time, the EPA wanted to monitor and control the amount of dust raised by tractors as they tilled the soil.

Given that the US is trillions of dollars in debt, and adding to it by billions every day, one might think such activity is somewhat like ensuring the slip covers on the sofa are in place while the house is burning down. And one would be wrong.

It's exactly like that.

"The new regulations, first proposed August 31 by Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, would also revoke the government’s approval of safety training and certification taught by independent groups like 4-H and FFA, replacing them instead with a 90-hour federal government training course."

This sounds familiar. Note all the new requirements for businesses, NGOs and employees in B.C. WorkSafe, first aid certification, criminal record checks for even entry level jobs, regulations on labeling of cleaning products, procedures and protocols. More and more bureaucracy requiring more and more public sector workers beholden to gov't.

"90-hour federal government training course" Brainwashing instead of parental and employer training.

The tards believe that child farmers and child soldiers are in about the same circumstances.

Something else is going on. Watch the other hand, people.

"Never annoy a man who keeps pigs."

Local principal threated to call SS because I kept 14 year old to run combine for 1 day. He really got mad when I told him Dave learned more in one day at home than he learned in whole year in school.

Alberta's choice for Premier is walking lock step with her pal in the Whitehouse. They might skip, hand in hand through the daisies for a brief time but the mission is to get all the peons into small pens in city ghettos - all land outside cities is tagged for the UN elites only - see agenda 21.

'Under the United Nations’ Agenda 21–Agenda for the 21st Century–the main thrust is to return all privately-owned property back to public domain. As with the Marxist doctrine, Agenda 21 doesn’t recognize privately-owned property because it is the cornerstone of all free societies.

America’s 50 states are being carved into 12 land-planning regions in anticipation of the forthcoming North American Union of which Canada and Mexico are part of the “three amigo partnership”.

“Partnership” is a keyword that denotes Agenda 21.

Canada is under regional land-planning concepts that link one province’s land to another under the guise of environmentalism.

One of the latest land-planning fiascos is Alberta’s Land Stewardship Act which was drafted and passed behind closed doors by Premier Ed Stelmach’s Conservative cabinet.

“Stewardship” is the keyword that indicates the Land Stewardship Act is a product of the UN’s Agenda 21. Also, under Agenda 21, “meat-eating” is not considered “sustainable” which translates into the elimination of all livestock raised for food consumption.

Unbelievably, the proposed legislation was never brought to the floor of the Alberta legislature for debate. Therefore, opposition members, press, general public, lawyers and, most importantly, landowner associations’ members and their executive directors, who never miss a trick, knew nothing about this land-grabbing Land Stewardship Act for a year.

For good reason, Albertans were in an uproar over this draconian law that dictates exactly what landowners can and cannot do with their land. If the fines and fees don’t do them in, the clincher is that regulators can expropriate land without compensation and the landowners are not allowed legal redress to defend themselves with due process before a court of law.

Alison Redford, a lawyer well-steeped in the United Nations doctrine, no doubt was elected to replace Ed Stelmach as leader of the Progressive Conservative Association in October 2011 because of a promise to rescind the Land Stewardship Act.'

See the rest @ http://christopherdiarmani.com/5263/property-rights/landuse-planning-means-driving-people-land/

What a mess you Alberta voters have made, right in the middle of Western Canada!

I don't believe that Redfraud ever had any intention of rescinding...she only 'consulted' -kind of like asking 7 under 12 year old kids what they want for dinner with no plans to deliver on their wishes, but knowing that they will believe; temporarily, that they have a 'say' and will do as they are told until dinner is served. Dinner will be what the cook (Progressives, in this case) made.

"Hard to keep up these days".

No kidding. I got confused on another thread once about bolt action magazine capacity limits, was thinking about hunting regs at the time, another commenter “corrected” me like I was an idiot.

Jema54 @ 5:03pm >

Well said Jema54.

Agenda 21 drives Progressive politics. Most people don't understand that, but it's designed so that they don't.

I keep thinking "Agenda 21" would be a great name for a movie about world domination.....oh, wait!

Obama doesn't understand American anything! He is not an American Black. His father was a Kenyan slob, his mother a Hawaiin rich kid. He does not understand, nor represent, the American black experience.

Yet, he tries to employ racial political divides to get himself elected.

The Great Divider must go.

Wonder if this nonsense got the approval of the Yank farm organizations.
It certainly would have got the Ont. Fed of Agriculture's stamp if it hade been dreamed up in Ontario.

Wait a minute...it already has been dreamed up in Ontario! it's called the Provincial Policy Statement on Land Use, and, get this, surprise, surprise, it was supported by the OFA. Probably the NFU and CFFO too.

I used ta say ya got to get a permit to fart...apply for it in triplicate and wait 2 weeks....
