Stephen Harper looks smarter with every passing day:
Britain is standing shoulder to shoulder with the United States on the battlefields of Afghanistan and in the wider war against Islamist terrorism, and on countless fronts is an indispensable ally to Washington. Yet the current US president can’t even bring himself to support the right of 3,000 overwhelmingly British Falkland Islanders to continue to live under the protection of the Union Jack, 30 years after their liberation from Argentine occupation. A stance of “neutrality” is an act of cowardice by Barack Obama in the face of Latin American pressure, and another slap in the face for Britain.
Also known as the "Maldives".

Obama does what is politically expedient for Obama. The best interests of the country have no bearing on any decision he makes or action he takes. I'm starting to question anyone in this world who thinks its news when this happens.
There is an old saying in diplomacy along the lines of "There are no permanent allies, no permanent friends, only permanent interests". This usually was used to describe a nation's behaviour, but I believe it can be used to describe Obama's behaviour, and the United States of America is merely another interest to him. When his best interests cross paths with the country's best interests, he appears patriotic, but no one should assume he's being patriotic. Its merely a shared interest. The USA is not his permanent friend or ally.
This “what else is new” Obama gaffe was featured at Power line too. Here are two excellent responses:
1) James DeCamp • Works at Raytheon
“Viewed with a little sympathy, it['s] easy to see that Obama was afflicted with a difficult childhood, given his parents. As an adolescent and young man, he apparently struggled to understand his place in the world, to establish an identity. It is understandable that he would turn inward and retreat into intellectual fantasies like socialism, and racial politics, it happens (think of the leader of the IIIrd Reich). Healthier intellects embrace and engage the world around them, his intellectual training and habits have built up barriers to shield him from it.
“One can have sympathy for a person so afflicted, but you would have to be out of your mind to want him to lead your country. He may be the most intellectually, philosophically, and experientially least qualified president in our nation's history. It could be worse (think of the leader of North Korea). . . .
“I also agree, George Bush may not have known a lot about arugula or the latest Georgetown cocktail party buzzwords, but the former fighter pilot was a lot more in touch with the real world than the former neighborhood organizer ever was.”
2) Declan Davies
“I can see where he was confused. The Maldives is the location of the new Austrian language institute and a training center for Navy corpse-men. You can get there by taking the Intercontinental railroad [from any one of the 57 American states].”
I know it’s impolite (though altogether his style): “BOO Obama!”
Well, until my comment was held, there WAS a comment!
daryl - excellent comment. Very accurate about Obama - who has only one interest. Himself. He's certainly not interested in the US.
Obama is not neutral about the Falklands and Britain; he's anti-British. Period. But he can't say this at the moment because his key focus is on his re-election and such a stance might harm that re-election.
Obama takes a dump on Canada by stopping the pipeline. Result - 2 new pipelines are heading to the Pacific - Americans will no longer pay a landlocked price for Alberta oil. He frigs up everything he touches.
Yes, the ObaMidas touch. What a deluded, evil fool.
Once again, Obama votes 'Present'. What leadership! What convictions!
Yep, community organizer has his Secret Service "organize an orgy in a whorehouse".

Does the Queen of England still have Oblamers most elegant speeches?
What did she do with the Ipod he gave her,
and does she listen to it overnight?
The Brits have lost 408 of their best and bravest in Afghanistan and over 5,000 have been injured. This is their reward? You need our help? Don't ask me, might anger my voter base and affect my re-election campaign.
Whoever replaces Obama is going to spend their entire term in office mending fences. First he betrayed Poland and the Czech Republic by caving into the Russians, he repeatedly screws Israel which faces clear and present genocidal threats, he hung Qaddafi and Mubarak out to dry which will allow Islamic fanatics to seize power, he has slapped Canada in the face by denying Keystone XL which would have been mutually beneficial to both countries economies and now he refuses to honour a blood debt owed to his staunchest ally.
Incidentally, Monday I was in a training course with an instructor from Georgia. During the break he stressed that Obama's Keystone XL decision was not he and 'the majority of Americans' wanted.
HEY CANADA YOUI VOTED FOR HIM !!!!
LOL.
remember the people of u.s.s.a. voted for him too. The PEOPLE voted for him , it is not him it is ithe people i worry about!!!
You would think that Obama would care a bit more about the Queen's England. After all he was born as one of her subjects.
Reminds me of when students were protesting in the streets, for freedom in Tibet a few years ago. Not one of ten protesters interviewed could show the reporter where Tibet was on the map. That would be Obama when questioned on the Malvinas. I can visualize someone showing him a map and explaining the history. His first 3 questions would have probably been, no Blacks? no oil? British ? No wonder he forgot the name. No votes to be gained there.
On Raising Hope last night: "Go to Tibet? I'm not moving halfway across the country."
Excuse me, but aren't forgetting that the Brits love(d)Obama?
You know, Reagan came pretty close to being neutral on the Falklands. He was very reluctant to take a side. Not saying that's right but it is what it is. And it doesn't make Father Steve look any smarter.
@ LAS
Reagan came pretty close to being neutral on the Falklands
Nor did Eisenhower support the UK during the Suez crisis, '56.

The UK has pretty much disarmed itself since the early 1980s. If Argentina gets uppity nuke em. If they don't smarten up - nuke em again.
Who cares? Britain is DEAD anyway .....
Not that Obama understands or cares ........ there's latino votes to be bought.
Obama returned a bust of Winston Churchill and his trashy wife got cheap gifts for visiting dignitaries' children. They live large, have contempt for the average American, estrange their neighbours and rally around dictators.
The writing is on the wall and it says: "Obama sucks!"

Excuse me, but aren't forgetting that the Brits love(d)Obama?
I think they still do. Most papers and news outlets in Britain are way over on the left and seem to follow the Obama families every move. The worship is still intact.
Obama confused the Maldives with the Spanish name for the Falklands, the Malvinas? Isn't he, like, the head of US foreign policy? Doesn't anyone with a basic knowledge of geography work at the White House? He's the perfect product of the Ivy League: he knows nothing useful, and learns nothing on the job.
the clown prince of world politics. it just never gets any better.
He is a punk and he has to go!
Harper should have bailed on Afghanistan as soon as the CIA spooks running the ops there made it apparent to our generals they would not be allowed to do what would beat the Taliban - burn the poppy fields and kill the opium trade income the enemy used to rearm and regroup after they were beaten back into Pakistan.
Our more honest Generals said we won the war against the Taliban a couple of times. With battlefield pals like the US CIA we were fighting on two fronts.
Good riddence to that crap hole - it was unworthy of our sacrifices because it was unworthy of democracy and our allies unworthy of our trust. Now the Brits are finding out the hard way.
Obama's afraid of Argentina because they punch above their weight.
It is evident that Stephen Harper with the help of Canadian diplomats in the US figured Bambi out very early, certainly by 2008, possibly earlier,
and formulated as good a course as has been possible in dealing with him.
I am sure that it has been a nauseating experience for PMSH and for Canadian diplomats. In the end it wasn't quite enough to save Keystone.
I do think though, that thanks to PMSH's forbearance, it had considerable impact when eventually he did speak out.
It does appear to me that Bambi, like our own Lucien Bouchard, has a liking for betraying his own friends and allies.
With Bambi it seems to go beyond simple anti-Americanism. He betrays as some men kill: for enjoyment.

Every country he has visited does, but never heard him say that about the USA.
The Malvinas will probably join the Maldives and sink due to global warming, the Falklands will be fine though, it's geologically dependent on the ethnicity of the inhabitants.
I thought the Maldives were in west Edmonton.
