Is There Nothing That Obama Can't Do?

Victor Davis Hanson;

In our own time there are certain growing trends, most of them media-induced, that conspire to rework our collective memory, in pursuit of a supposedly noble and just cause. In the fashion of no other recent figure, President Barack Obama has brought those forces of establishing an official truth to the fore. Last week he lectured the media that things are not just equal with two sides to a story. Instead, they have a responsibility not to fall into the trap of equivalence — the subtext being that he is not subject to the same laws of inquiry as are his earthly opponents.

Suddenly, the Supreme Court is a suspicious organization run by unelected politicos that uses capricious judicial fiat to overturn widely popular laws. The president denigrated it in a State of the Union address and now suggests that such “unelected” jurists (as opposed to electing them?) should act responsibly and thus “must” not find a popularly enacted law unconstitutional.

I am confused: I thought we were supposed to welcome such judicial audit. Was not that the charm of the Warren Court? Did not the Obama administration go to federal court to ask justices to set aside the Defense of Marriage Act that it was entrusted to enforce — seeking judicial help not to follow a law that it chose not to seek to overturn in Congress?

Yes, Exempt u from Obamacare.

Recipients include various cities and states, businesses, and unions, including the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). SIEU, of course, contributed $27 million to the Obama campaign back in 2008, so perhaps the union's waiver was a friendly "thank you" gift.

Nothing to see here, move along.

The Cause is the all important, that which can forward The Cause (courts) must become an un-person when it seeks to resist The Cause. Individuals and races are only important as they can further The Cause. Equality of outcome is a part of the current goal of The Cause, just as equality of access once was. It too will be thrown under the bus in time. All cannot be equal until the masses come to recognize the brilliance and required leadership of those who have worked for the cause (excluding those that are now un-persons), declare that We visionaries are the only proper leaders and sages of mankind (so History is no longer required and must be actively fought or warped/distorted), and elevate us to our proper place as rulers over everything. Only when we achieve the god-like status that is our right (because we are so caring of the peasantry) can all troubles be erased, and all others be equal (because you cannot apply our standards to such munificent and wonderful beings as ourselves) because We are love.

Usually I like VDH, but this one is just a little too precious. Now is not the time for gently ironic snark, in my humble Phantom opinion. Now is the time for the naming of names, dates, places and amounts, for choosing sides and for filling sand bags.

Incidentally, a double layer of sandbags appears to be enough to stop small arms ammunition. Just for future reference, y'know.

The great progressive hero Franklin Roosevelt was utterly contemptuous of the Supreme Court. When it declared certain aspects of the New Deal unconstitutional, FDR attempted to stack the court by doubling the number of judges. He decided against it after overwhelming public disapproval, but even the attempt likely brought the court into line.

As pathological, Obama can't handle any Other whom he cannot control. Left isolate as a minor community organizer, his malignant narcissism would have bothered no-one other than his co-workers who would have had to acknowledge his constant preening and self-glorification.

Put someone that deranged into a position of power, and his need-to-control increases exponentially. Obama cannot handle that anyone, and this refers to anyone internal or external to the US, has the power and ability to make decisions and to confront His Will.

Obama himself has little knowledge of or interest in the Health Care Act as helpful or harmful to Americans. It's totally and solely an issue of sovereign control. It's HIS act, and therefore, no-one has any right to do anything other than to accept His Sovereign Will.

Obama considers that all Others are beneath Him; they are, as he has informed us, against His Health Care only because they are ignorant. Or entrapped in 'religion and guns'. Or bigoted within racism against Him.

Obama ignores and has always rejected hard data reality (eg his college transcripts, birth certificate, etc) for hard data reality is not amenable to His Control. Obama lives and operates totally within the realm of WORDS. Words that he controls whereby he can manipulate and misinform.

The FACTS that not one GOP voted for the bill - ah, he explains that's partisanship against Him. The FACTS that even to get many democrats to vote for it required elaborate backroom special deals; that many unions have been allowed to opt out; that over 20 States have sued the federal govt against it....Obama prefers the WORDS about the GOP throwing grannie off a cliff, the WORDS about doctors, greedy as they are, cutting off limbs for money...

Now, he's declaring that the Third Branch of the government is constitutionally and operationally irrelevant. Because it wasn't elected! But the Founders specifically rejected these judges being held to the emotional mood of an election ...Remember, Obama was elected by an adulating audience, legs all tingling, who believed His WORDS that he could stop the oceans from rising (Moses parting the waters??) and ..

And he openly lied; the Courts have the duty to check for constitutional validity of all laws and have overthrown well over a 100 in past history, something Obama lied about..

An elected president who considers Himself as Sovereign? Above the laws? Who makes recess appointments when Congress is not in recess? Who has himself rejected the rules of Congress, who ignores the rule of the majority (2010 election) by, for example, setting up unelected Offices, EPA, which set up rules unvetted by Congress?

Who ignores that a war must be approved by Congress, by declaring that the US involvement in Libya was 'not a war' because, using WORDS, Obama redefined 'war' as meaning only 'boots on the ground' and not 'bombs from the air'.

A pathological dictator.

Finding contradictions, lies and deceit in the words and actions of BHO is the most non-challenging pastime I can think of. Readers of VDH are already convinced of Obama's ethically-devoid persona. Putting together 5 second sound bites that will induce the moronic middle to join with the quarter of the electorate that will be holding their noses as they vote for Romney is far more challenging.

Phantom, I know what you mean, but there is a time and place for everything and everyone. Perhaps like Socrates, VDH has fought in his own Delium, and now prefers in his senior years to wander the agora engaging the younger folk in Hansonic dialogue. What worries me more is the sloth and lack of ardor in the younger generation, who are happy to be coddled by government and who are sapped of drive and ambition.

What I find disturbing is the seeming end of a subtle check and balance regarding the US Supreme Court.

Justices are appointed for life and although appointed by the Executive branch.....are beyond recall or control by anything other than a motion by the Supreme Court itself.

Many times in the past, partisan Justices have been appointed and then once beyond political influence become strictly non-partisan....to the shagrin of the POTUS who appointed them.

This was not necessarilly, deliberately intended but a beneficial unforeseen consequence.

This now fails because of the very nature of the appointees....whose ethically-devoid, fanatical, ideology trumps rule of law and decency.

No one will honestly consider Kagan or Sotomyer will make any ruling deviating from their ideology......a situation truly without precedent.

This is the fault of the DEMONcRAT Senate.....who knowingly approved these appointments.

Every dictator in history has found the laws and constituton to be a obstacle, ripe for removal. One simply can not be a great dictator if there is oversight hindering progress to nirvana.

I'm sure their ardor will crank up quick enough once the store shelves start getting thin and bread costs $20 a loaf. Or when being the wrong color gets you dragged out of your car and beat.

That appears to be what Obama is aiming for, either deliberately or just as the path of least resistance to maximum preening, as ET suggests.

Paging Winston Smith.

Meanwhile, the chocolate ration has been increased to 7 grammes. Thank you, Obama!
