College students held demonstrations in several U.S. cities on Wednesday to mark the day total U.S. student loan debt was expected to reach $1 trillion, with some burning student loan documents and others demanding a right to "debt-free degrees."

Oh, what the hell. Just give it to them.

Debt as a share of the economy?

It's all debt, that's the only way money comes into existence.

UHHH!
Sorry kate , in order to have student debt you need student's. By 2080 there will be almost none entering university becasue we are not having any.

Unless there names are achmed and muhammod ,but they are only for protesting in front of and blowing up universities , not attending them.

Give $50,000 student loans to diversities, who will never graduate, never work a day in their lives, and often end up in prison.

Then bundle those loans into $10 million dollar tranches.

Get one set of Wall Street gangsters to rate the worthless bundles as AAA security.

Then get another set of Wall Street gangsters to sell the Triple-A-rated, but worthless bundles to pension funds all over the world.

The financial system is totally corrupt.
Top to bottom, left to right, inside and out.

They might as well give them away. Most are not worth anything anyway.

"Hadi Nassar, 31, whose eight years of undergraduate and dental school education has left him $186,000 in debt, said he was having to rethink his plan to work at a community health clinic.

"It makes me angry. It makes me not want to do what I set out to do - which was, help people, take care of people," said Nassar, a dental resident. "That type of job isn't going to give me enough income, monthly, to pay this off.""

Never met a dentist that made less than 100,000 a year. Suck it up.

I paid for medical school and graduate school and never hot a student loan. Bank lent me money for medical school because they knew I'd pay it back. Sick of these hopeless people who expect others to pay for their ride.

Langmann "Never met a dentist that made less than 100,000 a year."

Year? Is there a dentist who makes less than $100,000 per month? Mine seems to charge about $1,000 per hour.

Those who volunteer for five years in Obamugabe's "People's Militia" will have their debts cancelled.
Anyone with "rich" parents and skin whiter than Obama's will have additional attention paid to their
high school and at university teacher's reports re marxist bona fides before being accepted.
.

Katie Zaman Over 30 years in school and next 20 or so working can't pay of bills. Don't pay off. Don't they teach math in school anymore? Yes she would be better of taking a job at starbucks in the frist place. They must have a course in how to fail without trying.

This is just pathetic.

One guy is in dentistry, but wants to work in a community health clinic.

Another with a human services degree: what the hell is that?

From Cazenovia College: what the hell is that?

A law student, but expects to go into public interest law.

A Ph.D. student in sociology with $111,000 in debt: what, exactly, were you expecting to do with that degree?

"I might as well be working at Starbucks right now": you got that right.

Actually, here's a better version of the majors-by-income chart:

So what is the value of spending six years of your life to get a four year degree in Transgendered Aboriginal Victimization & Grievance Mongering, with a minor in Occupy Wall Street studies?

Montreal cops arrested almost 100 of these punks last night. Fun!

Universities are not what they used to be. Today they are mostly large welfare and propaganda organizations for the left-wing of society. Even areas such as engineering are now being taken over by left-wing kooks. Universities such as UBC brainwash students, they don't teach them. Worse, they are proud of the fact that they brainwash students.

These mini welfare states are being funded both by enormous sums of taxpayer dollars (which increases public debt) and by student debt.

The system will break eventually as it is unsustainable on its current path.

Dystopian Optimist
You forgot the step where a bank writes a credit default swap on the tranche and sells it to another bank who bundles it into a bond. Anyway sounds like a great plan, I'd buy credit default swaps on that paper.

And irony of ironies we tax payers unwillingly contribute to fund these towers of wast.

Since everyone should have a degree, why not give babies a doctorate at birth?

The suggestion is not original to me, but comes from a disgusted senior colleague a number of years ago.

Yep, and Obambi is out there campaigning at these very same colleges telling the students he is gona forgive all student loans if he is re-elected.

This is turning into one ugly Presidential election. One we must win.
