Are Alberta PCs Going After the Anti-Elderly Vote?

One might have concluded that Alberta MLA Thomas Lukaszuk's confrontation with an elderly, dying Edmonton homeowner was bad enough. But in an apparent effort to top his antics, Premier Alison Redford has been attacking former Premier Ralph Klein, who "is in a nursing home with a serious form of rapidly progressing frontal-lobe dementia. He’s quite ill and virtually incapable of forming words."

Perhaps we're too dumb to recognize a brilliant political strategy at work here. Maybe the secret to success of any election campaign is to appeal to that faction of the electorate that enjoys seeing seniors in ill-health getting picked on?!

Update: Jason Kenney chimes in.

Might the Python boys have been warning the ABPCs?!? :-)

The liberal left has always been fascinated with eugenics, abortion and euthanasia.

Kill a million black babies, grandma, or impoverished liberal welfare ghetto vote farms - What's the difference to them?

More money to go around at the next 35% self directed pay raise.

Enjoy the government run nursing home dad, your in good hands.

No class and a bald faced liar! She doesn't even know enough to bad mouth us in French when speaking to a reporter from down east.

Well you know attacking men dying of cancer, berating former premiers when they can't respond is just so stylish and classy...

Isn't there something immoral about 'elder abuse'?

I hope that every Albertan gets a chance to watch the Global video showing Lieberal Redford essentially saying, "I soooooooooooo want Torontonians to like us!" and "Anyone who dares disagrees with my Leftist views is a Southern U.S. Redneck Bigot!"

What an absolute disgrace she and her comrades in the Media Party are!

Phoney outrage, Robert. You and your ilk attack Pierre Trudeau and his accomplishments on a daily basis. He died of cancer and equally cannot defend himself. You also openly mocked Jack Layton--for personal reasons--on the very day he died and you continue to do so. So I'm calling this as hypocrisy, phoney outrage, or both.

Of course, Trudeau and Layton's work is deserving of criticism just as Ralph Klein's is. They all served in elected public office and any attempt to chill criticism of their work in office is anti-democratic.

Layton and Turdeau are mocked due to their (former) party's propping up the dead corpse, in order to expand their own narrow agenda, instead of taking the reins.

Witness the Dippers TV ad, with Mulcair, the wolf in sheep's clothing, once again digging up Jack for his own personal gain.

They are fair game so long as the twits on the left keep praying at that altar.

I think criticizing Klein is not so much right or wrong as it is just plain stupid. Klein is unlikely aware. But just in case there is a voter that hasn't been paying attention, this is a clear announcement that ABPC is Anything But Pro-Conservative.

Words from Lougheed? I thought he was a big A-Hole who failed to stand up to Trudeau. The spineless wimp should have met the Feds head on. He could have raised royalties beyond the level of the federally controlled price and shut down the industry. As it was Trudeau essentially shut it down for a lot of years.

Exactly WalterF. The stupid buggers in the PCAA war room come out with the "Not your Fathers PC Party" ad and then seek an endorsement from the father of the PC's, Peter Lougheed.

For an encore Red Ally then throws Ralph klein under the bus, Ralph Klein, the most beloved Premier this province has had in my lifetime.

Those of us who have been in Alberta for some time recognize what Ralph was and at the end of his run in office he had drifted to the left. Not far enough to the left for Red Ally mind you.

Hood

Robert makes a good point, slagging the older generation seems to have emerged as a theme by the PC's. Red Ally wants to change the character of Alberta, implying that those who developed the character of Alberta got it wrong.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

I fully expect Red to seek an endorsement from the ghost of PET next but he'd likely give us Albertans a boney finger.

Also a good point Scar. Many here never forgave Lougheed for backing down to Trudeau. anyways...off to work.

As stated previously Peter Lougheed was always a quasi conservative. I wasn't in AB while he ruled so I am not sure how well he did that. My problem with Peter was not standing up to Trudeau and how that set the West back for decades. His shortcomings were no different from VanderZalm signing off on Meech Lake.

The difference between Lougheed and Getty is that Lougheed was wrong, Getty was incompetent. The duo remind me of Chretien and Martin in that regard. Fortunately Alberta, so far, has survived the malaise that is Progressive Conservative.

PCs not gone soon enough.

Never ascribe to "senior hate" what can easiy be explained as stupidity and arrogance - two commodities in abundant supply in Redford's Reds.

Good subject to discuss "fistfull" conservatism.

Especially when it relates to dialysis busses, and MLA crop insurance windfalls.YEE HAH!!

Stupid Sh*t the left says. Its starting to hit the fan.

Dear 'Hood':

I never attacked Trudeau when he was dying nor did I attack Layton when he was dying.

I await your apology,

Robert

Listen to all the Liberal Hacks crying for and running to Alison Redford’s defense!

Oh yea, they thought they had a ringer in Alberta, a Trojan Horse.

Out you miserable slugs, ooooouuuuuuttttt!

My skin crawls to think how close Liberalism nearly came to putting a foot on Alberta soils. More bleach, we need to disinfect.

Premier Redford's denigration of Ralph Klein's legacy show her profound ignorance of recent Alberta history.

It was Don Getty that brought in the era of big govt and outrageous govt deficits from 1985 to 1992. He even lost his own seat over it.

It was Ralph Klein (1992-2006) that turned the good ship Alberta around and had the province debt free again by 2004. The biggest blemish on Klein was his totally bizarre obssession with blowing up a 1000 bed hospital when the province was adding 10000 to 30000 people per yr to its population.
Klein's enduring legacy is that he was the first important govt leader in Canada (or the world apparently for that matter) to realize the benefits of trim govts.

Of course one premier later and we're started going down Getty's disasterous path of nanny state, big govt all over again with the PCs.

There is no choice but to go with the Flower people in this Alberta election.

The way I see it the left, and the right are both out of touch with reality.
The right talks about free trade open markets capitalism ect. while ignoring the fact that factories are closing every year. No one here can compete with slave labor and no environmental practices in China. With country's like Asia where harper wants sign new deals, its going to cost us even more jobs. They are even talking about billions of dollars needed to to give to farmers when they are devastated by these new deals. This failed ideology that will be pushed through no mater what the cost. The last time I checked we have no Chinese factories in my neighborhood; So I say to hell with them.
The left thinks they can spend their way to prosperity. Yet even this is questionable as the biggest spenders were the right not the left like what did Starwars cost?.
I suspect the wild rose party will be no different. Without massive reforms total restructuring of the entire landscape nothing changes.

Peter, I'm curious, what is your alternative to Free Trade? Please be as specific as possible, perhaps with an example or two.

“The right talks about free trade open markets capitalism ect. while ignoring the fact that factories are closing every year”

The Liberal Progressive left talks about globalism, open borders and free trade. It is the concept of the European Union and their global governing body the UN.

Why you choose to lump Capitalism with Progressive Ideologies, is odd. Wall Street corruption and Corporate Fascism is not capitalism as so many promoting the Progressive Movement tries to sell. Yet it is the European technocratic, oligarchical, corpocracy nestled in Leftist Socialist clothing that brings on the troubles you speak of.

"What did star Wars Cost?'
It was never implemented, but it cost the Soviet union it's existence.

"alternative to Free Trade?"
Well I like the term, unfortunately it was coined by a liberal. "Fair trade"
Robert I think the auto sector would be a good example.
As you know we have a north American content law that states a certain amount of product has to be made here.Ford even stated that they would of shut the doors years ago, and gone to China without it.It has forced companies like Toyota and Honda to build factories here.Creating thousands of jobs.
The world is not black and white, it has a lot of grey.If your looking for an "ism" then your as delusional as our government.
"Wall Street corruption and Corporate Fascism is not capitalism" No its not, but it is the result of failed capitalism.Ann ran never wrote about how we compete with slave labor.

peter - "No its not, but it is the result of failed capitalism"

Please explain what happens with failed socialism. Need any examples?
