Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

So hijacking wealth and pouring it into dead end government make-work projects and bureaucracy kills real economic growth and thereby employment opportunities for the young?!?!
Say it isn’t so!
Yup, Europe needs more “youth”, car”b”que season is just around the corner again.
But they are so progressive and green and love their multi culti stuff.
Spain just passed a fanatical anti smoking law; bar/cafe owners expect to lay off most of their staff as business has already dropped 20/30 per cent – rocket scientists!
You are right, it is nothing. Peace and social justice will always prevail.
Look at the wonders and progress from the Arab Spring.
Their unemployed youth revolted and now peaceful, friendly, economic powerhouse democracies exist across North Africa from Somalia to Tunisia.
There’s good and bad news in those numbers – the rate of youth unemployment may well be sky high in the PIIGS, but the socialists haven’t been having very many kids to begin with so they won’t need too much in the way of tear gas to put down the riots…..
Think what its going to be like when all these punks hit 30 and they’ve never had a job…
Extending unemployment benefits is one of the best forms of stimulus we know.
Just looked at the graphs again and I was struck by a blinding flash of the obvious.
They are all hockey stick shapes.
Therefore the logical conclusion is all this is caused by Global Warming.
Who knew Al Gore was so smart/
@Jema 54, because they are unable to solve the real issues, they go for the path of least resistance…the proles.
I haven’t read of any spikes in Spain’s crime rate, although I expect to in the near term, as noted above the “car-b-que” season will soon be upon them.
How long does the government expect the youth of their country to sit and watch their future on hold?
well folks
Its not pretty here, just back from Spain and its definitely looking bad for the economy , its going to start getting ugly round Europe as the credit cards start to reject payments.
Zerohedge was predicting end of last year, meanwhile things have only gotten worse.
This time round food parcels are not going to work.
Who cares we all know what’s coming so why bother talking about it anymore. Just let it happen .
Marc, they’re not going to wait. The cannon-fodder of every revolt and revolution starts with youth which sees no hope. At the moment, there’s no leader or philosophy for them to focus around. But when that focus does come, if history shows anything, it will be violent and extremist. And many of them are going to look for more extreme leftist solutions. Remember, for most of them, the fall of the Berlin Wall took place before they were born. Stalinism is just a distant, unimportant memory.
Every revolution in the past 1000 years has started out from one of two causes: economic collapse; consequences of a war; or both.
cgh: I’m not optimistic either.
And they wonder why it is that non-immigrant spaniards aren’t having kids…
Paul in Calgary, for a Christian you don’t know much Bible. There will be no collapse. It’s not written.
Staying on the euro is like legislating 35% increases in minimum wage. Earnings go down and unemployment goes up.
Looks like a leftist victory, congratulations are in order.
Portugal spent billions on green energy. The Serpa Solar Park is the largest in Europe. Govt. guaranteeing premium rate prices for investors and doing it with borrowed high interest money. Sound familiar? Obama ? McGuinty ? You paying attention ? Did’nt think so.

What a foolish world, where you must study to be a slave
@ Duncan at March 12, 2012 12:45 PM
If she studies she will be a slave of higher standing. The lament seems to be that she wants it all, wants it now and can’t have it anymore. Entitled generations throughout Europe and then North America will get to know that song well. A job that pays enough to live on will be a prized possession in the not too distant future. That’s usually when dictators make appearences to promise the impossible. Or the possible at great cost to a free society. The sheep will always take the path of least resistance.
Paul in Calgary didn’t make any reference to the Bible. And in any event, the fact that it’s not mentioned in the Bible hardly means that it isn’t going to happen, just that it isn’t something that will happen at the end times.
We know a lot of things are going to happen even though the Bible doesn’t mention them. Perhaps fiddle is confusing the Bible with the Old Farmers’ Almanac?

Not long ago, my eldest son, right out of high school, left for Calgary’s bright lights, and made for himself a career in IT. On occasion, he’s tried to explain what it is he does, but I can’t follow it.
It’s still true in Canada that you can eschew the academy and get a start in the world. (Although I did have to come up with a down last year. OTOH, he’s got a wife and kid now.)
And, as I’m in the trades, it’s a commonplace to work with young men in their 20’s with their journeyman’s ticket making good lives for themselves too.
As anemic as the EU economy is, and as sclerotic as it’s labour markets are, I’m not so quick to write young Europeans off as a bunch of spoiled brats. They’re a lost generation and they know it. Which was why I posted the video.
By the way, Europeans already live under a dictatorship, as adminstered from Brussels, that has promised the impossible. That`s why they`re broke and the kids have no prospects.
Phantom: “Think what its going to be like when all these punks hit 30 and they’ve never had a job…”
Two things will happen:
Logan’s Run or Soylent Green with “Homes” for older folk becomes law.
Logan’s Run will be for anyone over 60.
I agree Duncan. The spoiled brats are always a percentage and much depends on how they were raised and values they received from their parents. The “entitled” young folk are certainly not all young folk. My own son took a summer job shoveling duck sh*t at a farm one year although I could have hired him for a nice clean job. I did not because I wanted him to get a feel for life if he took too much for granted. He was filthy and stunk on a daily basis but stuck with it for slightly above min. wage. The following year the farmer phoned him back offering him summer work with a decent raise. He graciously declined as he had other prospects that year. I asked him if he saw a lesson on that job offer and he said no. I told him that even if he shovels duck sh*t for a living, if he is the best duck sh*t shoveler on that crew he will always have a job. A lesson he took to heart and still reminds me of over the odd beer together. Not all are entitled for sure.
