They don’t hate our “freedoms”. They hate our guts.
The usual Sunday-Morning-talk-show explanation for this is that Pakistan is hedging its strategic bets: Pakistani military leaders doubt the United States military can tame Afghanistan before American combat forces’ scheduled exit in 2013. And rather than see the country degenerate into absolute chaos (as occurred in the early 1990s, in the wake of the Soviet departure), Pakistani military leaders want to be in position to turn Afghanistan into a semi-orderly Pashtun-dominated client state that provides Islamabad with “strategic depth” against India. And the only way for them to do this is to co-opt the Taliban.
This elaborate Great Game theorizing all makes sense. But there is another, simpler explanation: Most ordinary Pakistanis loathe America — indeed, not only America, but the whole of the non-Muslim world — and are only too happy to support jihad against the NATO forces next door in Afghanistan.

But this commenter,and those who agree with his view, which includes half of Canada,all Liberals and NDP,and most politicians,don’t seem to realise that though there ARE Christians who are fanatic fundamentalists,they are a tiny minority, NOT like the 80% of Pakistani Muslims who view the infidel as someone to be killed or enslaved.

NATO has killed a lot of Taliban but they have defeated no-one. The army brags about what a good job they did but lost over 100 soldiers just driving down roads. The solution was not to make the roads safe. The solution was to buy helicopters.
I simply think it’s fanciful stupidity to believe that Canada accomplished anything in Afghanistan. Canada controlled Khandahar Airfield, the Taliban owned the rest.
We are at the point where we will never win another war because we fight by rules that prevent us from instilling terror in the enemy. In WWII killing soldier’s families made them want to quit as much as killing their comrades.
NATO did do one amazing thing. They made the Pashtuns love the Pakistanis. That’s never happened before.

They weren’t the only ones. I know a teacher in a Calagry high school with a number of Muslim students, she eye witnessed them high fiving each other on the the 9/11 news. Too bad other students didn’t stomp on their faces. She told me the Principal closed the school for the rest of the day.

Unfortunately most fear of Islam in the west, particularly Canada, has nothing to do with Christian values. The vast majority of Canadians are Christian by association only. They do no practice Christian values.
What western values are the wanna be Christians so fearful of losing? The right to buy plastic Chinese junk at Walmart?
I suspect that most Muslims follow their religion because life offers them not much else. It leaves them open to manipulation and exploitation. In many cases citizens of the west suffer from the same fate. Their religion is willful ignorance and unthinking consumerism.
