Reader Tips

Tonight we present a couple of video amusements forwarded by SDA readers: first, via Adrian, place your bets on the success or catastrophic failure of the not-so-little Vodka Burner That Could. I say “not a chance.” And via Dave S., it’s man versus table saw, as an intrepid gentleman puts one of his wee body parts on the line in an attempt to prove that his remarkable new safety device actually works as advertised. Yikes.

  2. The Never-Ending War
Liberals are the true aggressors in culture wars.
    By Jonah Goldberg
What they object to isn’t so much the government imposing its values on people — heck, they love that. They see nothing wrong with imposing their views about diet, exercise, sex, race, and the environment on Americans. What outrages them is resistance or even non-compliance with their agenda. “Why are you making such a scene?” progressives complain. “Just do what we want, and there will be no fuss.”

  3. I’m generally not a big fan of reality shows but do enjoy watching Top Chef. This season the competition has been held in Texas. But I just learned that the finale will be held in … British Columbia!!!
Not quite sure of the connection between B.C. and Texas. Hopefully it’ll bring in some more tourism dollars though!

  9. The $25 billion agreement with Americas largest mortgage bankers and the Obama administration includes $1.5 billion in payments to some 750,000 borrowers who lost their homes to foreclosure.
About $17 billion will pay for mortgage debt forgiveness, forbearance, short sales and other assistance to homeowners.
Services will also provide $3 billion in refinancing to lower homeowners’ interest rates.
A website has been set up to give information on the settlement.

Republican candidate John McCain offered to set up hundreds of billions for qualified homeowners instead of giving bailouts to the billionaire bankers-
Demorats laughed him off the political stage.
Now they think this is fair/great.
I have never missed a mortgage payment,
do I get an interest reduction,
    do I get a bailout?
Only when it sounds right for Democrats can it ever be right for America.
We need to bury these bastards in the next election..

About these evil—yes, I believe that’s the correct word— subversives, I’d like to be able to say, “Forgive them, Father, for they know not what they do.” But . . . they know exactly what they’re doing and, come hell or high water, they’re determined to do it.

  13. does anyone recall the website or the link that assesed where you fall on the political spectrum?(not the CBC vote thing)
this site broke the specturm into 4 dimensions, not just the Left & Right.

  14. If Conservatives will push Bill C-11 they may loose whole generation of voters. This is not about pirating a song or a flick, this is about a mind-set. The Canadian Conservative politicians in their comfort to hold the power are too meek to protect real property rights (or sell CBC for example), so as substitute they cherish this absurd of ownership of an idea. They think it is safe , but in reality they are betting their political future.
You better pray that Liberals will remain in the coma and won’t know how to benefit from it.

  15. I was aware of this but according to what I’d read before, the symptoms were somewhat different…if you think about it, the survival of the species instinct might be active in viruses too…it makes sense…of a sort.
How Your Cat Is Making You Crazy
…if Flegr is right, the “latent” parasite may be quietly tweaking the connections between our neurons, changing our response to frightening situations, our trust in others, how outgoing we are, and even our preference for certain scents. And that’s not all. He also believes that the organism contributes to car crashes, suicides, and mental disorders such as schizophrenia. When you add up all the different ways it can harm us, says Flegr, “Toxoplasma might even kill as many people as malaria, or at least a million people a year.” ….

…Reiber has her eye trained on other human pathogens that she thinks may well be playing similar games, if only science could prove it. For example, she says, many people at the end stages of AIDS and syphilis express an intense craving for sex. So, too, do individuals at the beginning of a herpes outbreak. These may just be anecdotal accounts, she concedes, but based on her own findings, she wouldn’t be surprised if these urges come from the pathogen making known its will to survive. …

  16. In response to “The Gospel According to Obama” (above), a comment by Jesme at National Review:
“The more I think about this wretched policy, the angrier I get. It’s repulsive and disgusting beyond compare. The worst of it is that, in effect, it punishes religious organizations for showing kindness and mercy to people of different faiths. The willingness to reach beyond the cloister or the chapel and bring help to all people is one of the noblest and best things about [Christian] religious practice. But this damnable policy effectively penalizes religious people for following God’s command to love and serve everybody. It’s the most low, vile disgusting social policy I can think of.”
Just think where the Judeo-Christian commandment “Love thy neighbour as thyself” has got us. Ironic, eh?

  17. Mr. Bone has a bone to pick with the Bulls Christian prayer meetings.
“The Court of Appeal told Peter and Hazelmary Bull that they were entitled to express their beliefs, but not if they were incompatible with the rights of gay people.
Atheist former councillor Clive Bone started the case against Bideford town council in July 2010, claiming he had been ‘disadvantaged and embarrassed’ when religious prayers were recited at formal meetings.”
