The Tolerant Left

[I]t tells you something about the culture in which we live that in some quarters those who routinely champion abortion, even partial-birth abortion, are viewed as enlightened and morally sophisticated while those grieving the loss of their son, whom they took home for a night before burying, are mercilessly mocked.

  1. Doesn’t that come under the heading “we’re looking for a totalitarian party to vote for”?
Yeah, we should instead encourage American voters to look for Monty Python’s character ‘Charles Paisley the Baby Crusher’.
Thus mourning the loss of a family member no matter how small is a ‘reason’ for excoriating ridicule.
Slap dash punditry is an excuse to behave like a moron, when it advances the opposite political agenda. Appropriately, Mr Colmes represents the “Donkey Party”. All I can say is: “Jackass!”

  2. There is no low too low for syncophants. Their only opportunity in life is to abase themselves for what ever “important” leader or cause they can find.
Someone or something must provide them with either means or an image such (s/mad) people need. Colmes obviously is such an individual. His faux fawning as a liberal is soon undone by Bill O’Reilly and yet he comes slipping in under the door week after week.
Must be difficult to generate a readership for his Blog; Cheers

  3. This reminds me of Letterman’s diarhea of the mouth about Sarah Palin’s daughter attending a baseball game with her mother….
He gleefully delivered it, without a second thought….his apology reminded me of a kid returning from the woodshed….
These people are truly lower than whale $hit. It’s not a mental condition…it’s just plain evil…..not just nasty…..

  4. The left will stoop to any level to ridicule those they disagree with. They will even mock the death of your loved ones no matter how young or old they were at the time of their passing. But when Jack Layton died they did everything short of cannonize that useless parasite. I’m sure if necrophilia weren’t against the law there would have been dredloked leftists, both male and female, lined up at his funeral to fellate his corpse before he was taken away to be cremated, buried, or composted. The left has no morals or decency. As long as they can kick you while you’re down, and then get you to pay for their welfare, they are happy.

  5. Well considering the left killed countless millions in Mao’s China, Stalin’s Russia, Pol Pot’s Cambodia and Democrat America’s black baby blender mills, is it any surprise, really?

  6. Just waiting for an SDA troll or two to dismiss Robinson’s abhorrent words with “Rush Limbaugh and other conservatives say bad things all the time.” Not only will they offer no examples but in the process they will absolutely dismiss Robinson’s actions as “not a big deal”.
Now, what is fair game is to discuss this issue about Santorum. When I head that this afternoon, my first thought was, “Mitt Romney WILL be the Republican candidate.”

  7. As I understand it he and his wife knew that the baby had Edward’s syndrome, and yet they decided to continue with the pregnancy.
So even though the chances were close to zero that the baby would survive more than a few days after it was born, and that it would suffer miserably while alive, they did not terminate the pregnancy. That’s cruel and selfish. And they also knew that if by some very minute chance their child survived a few years, it would live with horrible defects. Again, cruel and selfish.
Then, after their baby was born and immediately died just as doctors told them it would, they spent the night sleeping with it, and then took it home to the kids?
The entire thing seems too strange for words, and it seems to me to be a case where religion trumped science, even though the science was correct. Most parents do not take a child to term knowing full well that it is going to die.

  8. TJ >
“…and that it would suffer miserably while alive”
Really? You know this and it’s published science or did you simply hazzard a guess?
Thousands of naked men in pink thongs dancing down a street in front of children seems more than a little strange to me. I guess we can pick our moral poisons.
The biggest difference I can see with the left is that they are all about deciding what your moral issues are going to be, and demand respect for their own. Like advocating the abortion of 50 million black babies while telling the so called “right wingers” they are racists, or pushing sex education on preschoolers with plenty of homosexual pandering.
Not for their kids of course, most don’t seem to have any because they either aborted them or are simply too gay to marry and conceive. Yet into the heads of the “right winger” children they go.

  9. Knight 99, the point is whether or not he is electable and can beat Obama.
(For the record I absolutely despise the pushing of the homo agenda on preschoolers, hence my kids were not in public school when young).

  10. As a physician I have had mothers give birth to a variety of aged fetus’ after miscarriage.
It is a natural thing for the parents to grieve especially the mother. Some people want to see and even hold the baby, others do not want to. Some people arrange a memorial service which is usually a personal family thing and that’s what the Santorums did.
I always ask what they would like and it is entirely natural. A woman goes through a lot of changes during the pregnancy process and her baby is important to her. Having respect for that and allowing a person to come to terms with something which often involves emotions from guilt to grief is due respect. Unless you go through it you don’t get it.
Personally I think Santorum is a deuchebag but on this issue he deserves quiet respect.

  11. TJ: “So even though the chances were close to zero that the baby would survive more than a few days after it was born, and that it would suffer miserably while alive, they did not terminate the pregnancy. That’s cruel and selfish.”
Isn’t carving up a baby-in-utero and vacuuming “the contents of the uterus” out cruel, selfish, and painful? Babies, before they’re aborted, are not given painkillers, but they experience pain and suffer.
Maybe TJ doesn’t know this or maybe he’s just ignorant of the facts. I suspect that the Santorum baby’s experiencing a vaginal birth and being held and loved on coming into the world would be far less traumatic than being aborted.
‘Kind of a no-brainer I would have thought.

  12. The last paragraph in the Commentary article sums up the values of the left well.
Knight99 @ 5:28 and the last three paragraphs of 6:06, exactly.
This sort of despicable behavior seems to be becoming more prevalent with every election.
If I happen to watching FoxNews and Alan Colmes comes on I change channels.

  13. a repost of mine from a day or so ago
over 800,000 remains are dumped in the hospital garbage every year in the USA and this is what they report.
35% of all afroamerican pregnancies end in abortion and 17% of white end in abortions and this is what they report.
    the press really are sick

  14. TJ >
“…the point is whether or not he is electable and can beat Obama”
Respectfully, I’m not exactly sure if that is the point. Personally I think the guys a knob. I also don’t personally care about abortion, to each their own, I see far less gang banging, drug selling, muggers and thieves walking my streets.
That’s just me and I don’t hide from that viewpoint by selling it as some sort of moral condition and then point a finger at the opposition and lable them racists by default.
It is the Liberal left that aborts millions of black baby’s each year, while enslaving generations of them in welfare ghetto prisons.
I think the point at least from my vantage is about character assassination and the hypocrisy in left wing core ideologies.

  15. If Santorum et al did what Colmes said he did, then he would have been charged with committing an indignity to a human body.
This whole thing is bullshit and should be recognized as such.

  16. @Robert L
    > But when Jack Layton died they did everything short of cannonize that useless parasite.
From your comments, it seems you may have wanted to “cannonize” Layton. Involves targeting with a cannon. 🙂
The word you’re looking for is “canonize”, meaning to make into a saint. Which is what the MSM were trying to do.

  17. Santorum cannot beat Obama. The GOP need to appeal to two factions. The Independents and the disaffected Democrats.
If they run anyone but Romney, the Indies will stay home and the Disaffected Dems will turn back to Obama.
I personally would like to see a tea-partier in the White House but it’s not going to happen in this election. Baby steps, folks.

  18. Sheesh, people, we’re talking about liberals here. These people cry louder over a felled tree than a dead baby.

  19. They are scared of him getting the nomination.
I want to back him just for the “fear factor”.

  20. I guess all that decorum and civility we were lectured about after the Arizona shootings is out the window?
Or are we still supposed to be nice while rats like Colmes dance in the sewer?

  21. My wife, who is sometimes more conservative than me, just chatted to me about this. She finds it positively bizarre that a woman would try to carry a baby to term knowing full well that the baby would die soon after birth.
Yes, the left are intolerant hypocritical bastards, and when you put them in front of a microphone they are usually pigs. So I don’t disagree with that aspect of the discussion.

  22. This is not about Santorum’s chances of being POTUS. This is about the Dung beetles inhabiting a mine used as a latrine. They have the ethics & morals of Pol Pot, Mao, Stalin, Rabis Islamists, Hitler with the rest of there hero’s like Idi Amin the cannibal or a Mugabe of Today. All upstanding folks by Colms Ilk.

  23. This is just part of the MSM attempt to destroy any strong Republican candidate so that Obama can face an opponent weaker than he is. Unfortunately, retractions or apologies will vanish and the public image with be of “playing with a dead baby”.

  24. The gratuitous cruelty exemplified by the Colmes/Robinson remarks is stunning.
I wonder if there are any depths that leftists (primarily) and other idealogues will not sink to in order to create a drive-by smear that they possibly think could advance their particular causes, regardless of whether it terribly wounds the target of their derision.
TJ: Your comments at 5:52 are perhaps reasonable, and you present a cogent argument. What perhaps is missing is that you (at least I hope) have not been in that horrible situation.
A couple, close friends of mine, with two children with Cystic Fibrosis, were advised by their physician that a third pregnancy posed a 50/50 chance of resulting in another child with CF. They were aware that the chances of either of their existing two children reaching the age of 21 were remote.
And I witnessed them agonizing over whether to proceed or not. They chose to proceed with the third child….lost the bet. Their newest offspring also had CF. No fairy tale here.
Currently I am going through similar dilemmas in providing treatment for my wife with MS, because no medical intervention is without risk. These are generally difficult decisions. Last year I took her to a clinic in California for the so-called “Zamboni treatment”…$17,000 for a treatment (angioplasty) that is readily available in Canada at a cost of about $300 to our medical system, but denied categorically to anyone with MS.
And we continue seeking treatment, but the decisions tend to be mine, due to the relatively unpublicized fact that some types of MS also have a dementia component, regardless of age. I find myself having to make these decisions based on as much knowledge as I can accumulate and a sense of conscience. But being confident that one is making the RIGHT decision is very difficult at times.
    Not complaining…sometimes life just sucks.

  25. Robert, I find condemning the personal attack on the Santorum’s tragedy (and how they dealt with it) and then pointing out something else about his moral beliefs as a good reason not to elect the man, a bit underhanded. It’s like expressing sorrow over a young hockey player that suffers a paralyzing injury then adding that he wouldn’t have made the NHL anyway.
Personally,I find “yeah, but” thing annoying.

  26. and religious wackjob is he, what the GOP needs is a large C conservative that is an atheist
these religious nut jobs just have to go
and I’m with TJ on this issue, if the Santorums had done the RIGHT thing and aborted early, this whole fiasco would not be there

  27. Ann Coulter is right about both Santorum & Ron Paul they are unelectable, yet Ron Paul is not only what America needs he is also what the greater world deserves.
AC – “Ron Paul is not electable as president for several reasons, including that he is only a congressman, is bad on illegal immigration, favors drug legalization and is off the charts on foreign policy.
(But it would serve the rest of the world right to have Paul running the show for a term or two. Then they’d find out what it’s like to be entirely on their own, protecting their own sea and air lanes, digging themselves out of their own earthquakes, getting invaded and nuked by hostile powers, having their computers hacked by terrorists and buying oil from the new Islamic caliphate. After eight years of President Paul, it would be generations before we’d hear a peep of anti-American sentiment again.)”
Here is what the troops think – (listen to Romney blatantly lie)

  28. Our friends on the left are losing it these days…as the election gets closer they will be much worse….why is no one going after Obama?? he must have some skeletons…////

  29. I used to enjoy watching Hannity and Colmes because, invariably, Hannity would tear Colmes apart. He not only acts like a dork, hew looks like one.

  30. Sorry, but this is extremely creepy. If he said that he and his wife were filled with remorse and denial, I would excuse holding a corpse for a while. Taking it home to show the kids is off the rocker.
I’m as anti-abortion as it gets – no exception. But dead is dead. If his mother died, would he wheel grandma home for the kids to snuggle with? I’m barely comfortable with kissing the dead at wakes. To the extent it’s a token gesture of farewell, I accept it as loving sympathy. Hugging the recently departed is anguish expressing itself. Santorum’s actions seemed too deliberate.
Why can’t we mock both Santorum and the pro-abortion death squads?
I like Santorum personally, but he doesn’t have presidential chops. He is just the Flavor of the Week for the Anybody but Romney crowd which contains a strong element of religious bigotry. Santorum will be on the same downroll as Gingrich and Perry very soon. If he won the nomination, Obama would likely win.

  31. And Gym if your parents had aborted you we wouldn’t have to read your drivel. Pushing for an abortion for possible future political gain is beneath contempt.
Having lost a child I understand the grieving that the Santorums went through. We didn’t grieve the way they did but I understand why they did it and I will never speak ill of their actions.

  32. Talk about slowing down at a crash site to rubberneck. An operative/mouthpiece like Allan Colmes tosses out the weird and creepy meme and even at SDA a substantial amount of folks gawk.
Then again…how often does a honey wagon crash into a delivery room?

  33. Hey Slater, you really are a capital Dick!
GYM, you need help too! So it’s set aside your mores and convictions for the sake of power? Maybe that’s why we’re in this sewer in the first place!

  34. Perhaps Santorum does not have the mettle to be president. Why could Colmes and Robinson have brought THAT up instead of characterising his choice of mourning as “playing”? I don’t think I would let a small child hold the dead body of another one but I see no problem in giving Gabriel (not “it”) who lived a few hours after birth (not stillborn) a proper burial. This spiteful crap is just the tip of the iceberg regarding Santorum. I suspect it may get worse. As I said before, liberals find this kind of stuff funny. Pure evil.
“So he’s obviously not content stealing food from the mouths of his own grandchildren to fatten the Church of Rome, he wants Protestants to be forced at gunpoint to pay tithes to pedophile priests. The only reason for every decent Republican not to tell this little traitor to burn in hell with Pope Pius XII and JFK is he’s halfway there already.”
Anti-Catholicism went out with the geocentric theory. Or at least it should have.

  35. Yikes. I didn’t know about the Edward’s Syndrome diagnosis.
That puts this in an entirely different category, in my view. They chose the outcome.

  36. The left would stab their own mothers.. then screw her in the wound track.
    They are bottom scum.

  37. TJ, you see the world through nothing but a scientific mindset which has no room for the spiritual / supernatural side.
I have good friends who, after a battery of tests and ultra sounds were told by their doctor and specialists that their “fetus” had hydroencephelitis, and they were counseled to terminate the pregnancy as there was no chance of survival.
They were worship leaders at our church and we put this to prayer in response to the “diagnosis”. They chose to have faith for a normal and health baby to be born to them at full gestation.
The medical system put a fair amount of pressure on them to abort, but they held firm (not without shedding many tears and agonizing over the life that they were about to bring into the world).
They held onto the medical reports and ultrasounds which showed the test results, the pictures clearly showing the condition, which was confirmed by a number of various specialists.
She gave birth to a health baby boy, and they have the documentation to prove the disease which he had.
They even got some very carefully worded weasel, backpedalling documents basically saying that there was a misdiagnosis, but not enough to challenge in court as fodder for a malpractice suit.
He is a strapping young man, a wonderful musician and perfectly normal…as a musician can be!!!!
Prayer changes things, not always the way we want, but this is one documented miracle which is verifiable.
People of faith do things which are not always the “normal” way. But they can have life-changing ripples which can change the world.

  38. Jason M: The Santorums did not choose the outcome. They chose to let nature run its course then dealt with the inevitable in the way of their choosing.

  39. The anti-Catholicism demonstrated by some of the posters here is breathtaking. The nastiness towards a grieving couple and their family is nauseating.
The Santorum’s child was a tiny human being who was less than perfect. All of us here at this blog are larger human beings — well, the “human” part may be stretching it in some cases — also less than perfect.
The one thing that separates humans from being merely animals is that we’re capable of nurturing the least among us, the most weak and vulnerable, rather than attacking and killing them, which most animal species do: “whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (Matthew 25).
This human/e and compassionate instinct seems to be singularly lacking in some of the brutal remarks about this baby and the Santorum family. There is no right way or wrong way to grieve for a dead child; families get through the devastation and pain any way they can — because no one ever really gets over the death of a child.
To suggest that the more compassionate option in this very difficult situation would have been an abortion is obscene in the extreme. Abortion takes the life of a child and is an extremely violent medical intervention for both the mother and the child. In the end, the child dies and the mother is left with a myriad of potential medical problems as the aftermath, not least of which is mental anguish.
I fear for our world when otherwise sensible people suggest death is preferable to life and that it’s OK — not only OK but imperative — to play God with others’ lives. The child’s body is not the mother’s; s/he is a completely separate entity, with a DNA utterly distinct from that of his/her mother.
All I can say for Gabriel Santorum is rest eternal grant unto him, O Lord, and may light perpetual shine upon him. May he rest in peace, and may his family know Your comfort and healing as they cope with this devastating loss.

  40. I lived on a native reserve in my youth, and when a person there died they had the body brought from the funeral home and the relatives sat with the body in the living room for 3 days, before they finally had it buried. (it was really starting to smell by the way) What would this leftist piece of pig dung Alan Colmes have to say about this traditional native Indian practice?

  41. Sorry, but this is extremely creepy. If he said that he and his wife were filled with remorse and denial, I would excuse holding a corpse for a while. Taking it home to show the kids is off the rocker.
    THIS
People of faith do things which are not always the “normal” way. But they can have life-changing ripples which can change the world.
    Oh now that is adorable.
Santorum is doing a great job of making Romney look good.

  42. Libertariansaresmugger, if I had a choice between a religious “nut job” and someone who thought the death of a child was no big deal, I’d go with the alleged nut job. At least I know he’s a human being.

  43. Bruce, my heart goes out to you and your wife as you struggle with her severe health issues. I’d guess it makes you appreciate and value life more than might othewise be the case.
Those who blithely suggest imperfect children be aborted and in doing so suggest they hold the moral high ground, disgust me. Hey folks, avoid unpleasentness and the pain you’ll feel later by aborting today. Somehow, we’re happy to embrace and love a cat that may live 10 or 12 years, but we should consider aborting a Downs child who may only live until 20.
I lost a brother to SIDs when I was a small child. Perhaps if my mother would have known that he would be dead at 7 weeks of age, she might have been better served by killing him in the first or second tri-mester.
I will argue that the same people who would counsel others to avoid emotional pain and sorrow through abortion also those who will lobby most strongly for counseling an early and deliberatly chosen death in our senior years.
You either value life or you don’t.

  44. It’s weird when a weird guy like Rachael Maddow judges the actions of someone else as weird.

  45. Very gracious acceptance of Colmes’ apology on the part of Rick Stantorum. ‘Turns out that Rick Santorum’s wife, Karen, was a neo-natal, intensive-care nurse for nine years. Aside from being the mother of a child who died, her work involved dealing with couples who had lost children. There was nothing “weird” about what the Santorums did — and that guy Robinson is a total weirdo and creep for applying that epithet to Rick Santorum in connection with the death of his son.
    http://www.breitbart.tv/santorum-accepts-alan-colmes-apology-i-know-alan-is-a-very-good-person-at-heart/

  46. Wow! I’m not ashamed to say that I had never seen Alan Colmes before. Now that I’ve seen him in action, I’m grateful he’s been off my radar.
What a sleaze bag. Because Rick Santorum has a world view at odds with that of Colmes (and we all know how insular the libtard world is, where liberals talk only to liberals) Colmes feels perfectly entitled to savage him and his family. ‘Funny thing that Colmes says, in his comments to Rich Lowery, that he, Colmes, is in no position to judge others when he’s just harshly judged and excoriated Rick Santorum: “[Santorum has said and done] crazy things … like taking his two-hour-old baby who died right after childbirth home and played with it for a couple of hours so his other children would know that the child is real [emphasis mine].”
Played with it??? Absolutely disgusting. Colmes even looks like a reptile, the Dorian Gray syndrome, where you begin to resemble the foul things you think, say, and do.
