A Los Angeles firm has quietly assembled a Trojan horse electric car designed to carry the Chinese military-industrial complex deep into America’s auto market. Detroit should be afraid, very afraid. And anyone in the U.S. unemployment line — along with American taxpayers, who are subsidizing this sham — should be outraged.
More at Death By China. (h/t Brian)

Okay…
This was oh so inevitable….
When everything from our TV’s to our electric tooth-brush originate in asia….and umpteen marques of asia cars are common here…is the there really any surprise about Chinese/Indian autos coming….
The real surprise is that they have not been here long past.
Sparky cars are a passing fad…IMNSHO……..
Um,
Huff Po? so these guys want another brick in Obama’s trade wall eh? how’s that going so far for our Canadian industries that can’t sell to US infrastructure projects. Listen, you’re either all in or all out when it comes to global trade.
Another Democrat anti-free trade story from regulars at Huffington Post. At least this time it isn’t Canada and the oil sands.
Of course, they DO have a point,as China can build vehicles way cheaper than we can, that these are part of the “clean green” scam merely adds insult to injury.
I expect they’ll be eligible for government subsidies as well.
I haven’t read “Death By China” yet, and will have to pick up a copy, see what their approach is.
Despite a quagmire legacy of regulations and perverse incentives from politicians “doing something”, capital still flows, however irregularly to where it yields a return. The authors of this article and presumably the referenced book advocate the solution to this “problem” is for more politicians to do more.
The US leviathan runs on debt. China is the largest foreign holder of such. He who pays the piper calls the tune. How much of Obama’s billion dollar war chest for 2012 will be (indirectly) coming from China or Chinese state enterprises? Green (subsidized) industries do produce Green for some at the expense of the (involuntary) many.
CODA = Communist Overseers Dominate America
I love the line at the end:
“It gets a little kinky; you may not want to put all that in there.”
Yah, wouldn’t do, would it, to ‘fess up that the US content is 35%? This guy swerves and dodges better than his car.
dmorris, they will probably get the Fed Gov’t customer rebate that applies to electric cars. And I agree with you, it’s interestign to see Dems snivel when it’s their pet projects getting gored by lower cost Chinese production.
It’s only a matter of time. The last car China sent to our shores did not meet our safety standards. When “Consumer Reports” tested it I believe they stated that a wet cardboard box had more resistance to impact than this vehicle made by Cherry motors. Within a year or two they will try again with cars that sell for under $ 10 000.
Would anyone be surprised if they sold like hotcakes? The only thing that has not been outsourced pertains to the military complex and even there some contractors have outsourced , although that is illegal. Bottom line with all corporations is profit margin and the temptation is hard to resist. Telling consumers not to buy a brand new, fully loaded car for eight or nine thousand dollars will fall on deaf ears. The end of American/japanese automotive dominance is guaranteed if China gets a foothold on auto imports. Coming soon.
Enjoy your free trade, assholes. When you’re all unemployed, the Chinese will find something for you to do.

So LEO does that mean that Canada is going to get rid of all of its protected industries too? Please I grew up in Canada and know all about the chicken, milk, wheat, beer, etc protections….the US is one of the most accessible countries in the world when it comes to trade, if it wasn’t how does it have such a huge trade deficit with everyone? As far as infrastructure, I believe tax dollars should be used on local companies, consumers how ever should be free to buy from where ever!
