Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

“The California man who lives part of his life as an ‘adult baby’ and collects Social Security disability payments says the federal agency has cleared him of wrongdoing and will continue sending checks.
“Stanley Thornton Jr. now wants an apology from Sen. Tom Coburn, the Oklahoma Republican who called for the benefit review because the investigation disrupted the final months of life for his roommate Sandra Dias, who playacted as his mother, spoon-feeding him and helping him into his baby clothes until her death in July.
“’We recently reviewed the evidence in your Social Security disability claim and find that your disability is continuing,’ the agency said in an August letter that Mr. Thornton posted on the website he maintains to document his adult baby lifestyle.”

Ezra Levant has a hilarious piece up on his site that shows the idiocy of the ‘occupy Toronto’ protest. It is titled the ‘Mindless Mob” and is one part of three segments of his time spent with the hippies.
There is a guy with a guitar who is some sort of leader there, watch his confusion when Ezra starts up,priceless.

“Shocking Foshan incident reveals an unspoken illness at China’s core”
“The story of a driver hitting a child on purpose isn’t just down to our compensation laws – it goes back to the cultural revolution”
“Yajun Zhang”
“One of my relatives was sentenced to a labour camp for many years during the cultural revolution after speaking up for a friend who had been denounced as a counter-revolutionary. That period is a reminder to him and his family to never get involved in other people’s business.
In the late 80s and 90s, China began the process of reform and opening up. As many get richer, loyalty to the party and the authority (itself a product of propaganda) has been gradually replaced by the individualism, materialism and the pursuit of wealth. Without any religion or traditional values (many of which were also destroyed during the cultural revolution), there is a spiritual vacuum in today’s China. Our traditional values of communalism and social harmony have been replaced by selfishness and individualism. Many people think of how to maximize their personal interests, even though they may step over – or run over – others on their way to their goals. On a more positive note, it’s also one reason we see many young Chinese searching for new faiths and philosophies to fill in this void.
There is no quick remedy for this social disease. It may take years or decades for the Chinese society’s mentality to catch up with its economic development. However, over time, some progress will be made. More Chinese people will begin to care about not only the wellbeing of their family and colleagues, but how they can contribute to building a healthy society. We see this happening now: more people are volunteering for local community service or to work for NGOs. As more urban Chinese enjoy comfortable lives, they will ask for more rights and a better social environment – and will do their bit to make that happen – with the aim of living in a society in which children can rely on the help of strangers.
This is a change that has to come from us, the Chinese people. It will only happen when we are ready to deal with the scars of the past, confront the problems of today, and work together to build a brighter tomorrow for all the generations of China.”

“How China sees Britain”
“Britain’s ‘sloth-inducing’ labour laws and lavish welfare system are at the root of the country’s economic malaise, a senior member of the Chinese government warned last night.
Jin Liqun, chairman of the country’s vast sovereign wealth fund, China Investment Corporation, said people in the West needed to ‘work a bit harder’ if they wanted to escape the recession.
In a tough message to EU leaders Mr Jin said Westerners were cossetted by the welfare state.”

“*Sun Not Shining on State Solar Subsidies”
“In 2009, then-Gov. Jennifer Granholm touted the $725 million Wixom renewable energy park project as “symbolic for Michigan in what we’re going to become.”
The new solar power companies were supposed to create 4,000 jobs in a closed auto assembly plant and provide a vivid example of Michigan’s economic transition from automobiles to green energy. In return the state approved a $100 million tax credit.
Two years later, Ford told the Wixom city officials the deal wasn’t happening.
Michigan Capitol Confidential took a look back at the nine solar power companies that were approved for state tax credits. Many have fizzled with reports that the companies are laying off employees at a time they were supposed to have been adding jobs.
For example, in 2009 a company from Georgia called Suniva announced it planned to open a $250 million manufacturing plant in Saginaw County. It was to add 500 jobs.
Media reports said the company is holding off plans for a Michigan plant after deciding not to pursue a Department of Energy loan.
Energy Conversion Devices and United Solar Ovonics are affiliated companies that have been approved for state tax credits for four different projects that were supposed to add about 5,700 jobs. Both companies announced layoffs this year.
Evergreen Solar opened a solar plant in Midland in 2009. The company announced in August it was filing for bankruptcy.
Gov. Granholm touted Suniva and Evergreen Solar in a Feb. 25, 2010, Huffington Post column in which she wrote, “Last May, I first posted here about how Michigan would lead the green industrial revolution. Some folks scoffed at that idea. They said I was too optimistic. They said Michigan would never lead in a green economy. We’re working to prove them wrong.””

syncrodox; It is a step forward that the Liberals have acknowledged that the cbc is theirs, but why do we all have to pay for it?
I signed the petition, and also made sure that young Trudeau will be receiving updates from the Liberal party.
So Hannity just told Sarah Palin that Canada was in a recession in 2009 until we started drilling for oil. Huh Who knew.
The survey for cbc contains this startling fact about the misdeeds of the Harpo neo-cons;
” One of the questions was whether Conservative donors are getting “good” or “bad value” for the CBC’s funding.”
How dare they ,that is appalling, the audacity. Nevertheless,Pierre Paladeau just signed on to support the cbc, I do hope that that Karl von whatever, head of the CRTC doesn’t sign on. That may be a conflict of interest.
wallyj; you have to love these online petitions as one never knows who is going to sign up ;-o
Globe-Mail/MSM Big Lie/headline:

Jihad Watch:
“*The book is a reminder of the importance of epistemology: before understanding Muslim acts, one must understand the Muslim mind that initiates them. We discover that Shakespeare’s dictum “Nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so,” in Islam becomes “nothing good or evil but Allah says so.””
“An “Algerian man” and a “Pakistani citizen.”
But Pamela Geller is quite right: “It transcends borders, nationalities, continents …… the ideology trumps all. Which is why I find it so amusing when news reports identify the country (Moroccan man, Pakistani, Algerian, blah, blah) because their nationality is as relevant as the color of their shoes.”
“Jihad Jane Conspirators Indicted in Philadelphia for Supporting Terrorists,” by Sophia Pearson for Bloomberg, October 20 (thanks to Pamela Geller):
Two people were indicted in Philadelphia on charges they supported terrorists in the “Jihad Jane” terror plot.
Ali Charaf Damache, 46, an Algerian man who resided in Ireland, and Mohammad Hassan Khalid, 18, a Pakistani citizen residing in Maryland, with one count of conspiring to provide material support to terrorists. Damache was also charged with one count of attempted identity theft to facilitate an act of international terrorism, Philadelphia U.S. Attorney Zane Memeger said today in a statement….
Damache, also known as “theblackflag” and Khalid allegedly helped Colleen LaRose, also known as Jihad Jane, provide logistical and financial support and recruitment services in a plot to kill overseas. LaRose pleaded guilty in February on charges she plotted to recruit terrorists and murder Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks. She is awaiting sentencing with another woman, Jamie Paulin Ramirez, who pleaded guilty in March to charges she conspired with LaRose to support and train terrorists.”
http://www.jihadwatch.org/
syncrodox; About the petition, yeah it can be amusing, hehe.
One thing that is not,and I don’t know if this is relevant, but is it not a conflict of interest for a political party to be part of a committee that is investigating the cbc, while they are also putting out petitions that support the cbc?
That’s an interesting question wallj and totally relevant IMHO. Seems like an obvious conflict especially if this petition is intended as evidence before committee.
” as evidence before committee.”
Now that would be funny. Can you imagine the ruckus that would ensue if one of the commitee members confronted Paladeau with this petition, showing where he signed up.
I think I will sign them all up,just to be fair.
On the serious side though, belonging to a party that actively supports “their cbc” does raise questions about their impartiality,
