For as long as I can remember, I have been confronted with the picture of starving people in Africa. After the heart breaking pictures - please give generously! Any person with a heart is moved to help them and the consolidaters of wealth well know this. What is always forgotten is that Africa is the 'Eden of the world', anything can be grown, all year round; the climate is excellent for the support of human life. All we need do is look at what the people of Israel have managed to do with that patch of desert that was transferred to them, a mere 60 years ago.

Why?

My experience with the Edmonton Somali community is limited but I got the impression that the Somalis here in Edmonton came from the wealthier Somali families. Its not that we are importing the dregs of their society but rather we are importing their elite. That being said murder is unacceptable in Canada but it is very difficult to solve when the victim's friends and families won't help the police.

I'm a big proponent of phillipino immigration. Those men and women integrate well to Canadian society. There is a degree of poverty in that country, so we would fulfill eleemosynary requirements So, do we have to select every item from the international buffet, or can we just bring a whole bunch of Phils over?

In Brooks, roughly 15-20% of the population is Somali. And, for the most part, the first generation Somalis tend to be good people; grateful for the opportunity to have left a war-weary and violent country for a country of opportunities.

Interesting to note that the second generation seems to have adopted much of the US black gangsta/white rappa-boy style. Baggy jeans, stupid hats, and a clueless attitude of entitlement. We were getting the aid through to the starving in the hinterland with Aideed's semi-cooperation. Then some genius placed us under UN control...while the UN types tried to sideline Aideed for their favourites....the result Aideed declared war on the UN (us)....

We actually managed peaceful co-existance with a feudal society by abiding by feudal rules/practice. Then the UN types upset the apple-cart with it's functioning alliances and treaties...to impose THEIR hegimony. Then the warring factions united against a perceived common enemy (us).

A simple conversation with a Somali will clarify everything....their interpretation was/is the US military was stealing THEIR stuff (UN/RED CROSS/NGO FOOD AID).
