Drudge Report: "DC TO 116... NYC 110...", http://drudgereport.com/

The media are all beside themselves, positively breathless with reporting temperature. No doubt will bring forth another round of AGW sermons.

Rush, http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_072011/content/01125107.guest.html, dug up reports that show the temperature reported, either omitted or would say in pasing that it is "heat index". This is not actual temperature, it is a composit of a number of factors to make sound way more dramatic than it actually is.

Of course those who want to know, know that the "journalists" will omit, misrepresent, camouflage and to other tricks to call out drama.

I can’t keep track of the theories about the disastrous situation on the Mexican-American border, but this article is interesting: A left-wing activist argues that the US Border Patrol and the Mexican smuggling cartels are in a mutually dependent relationship that carefully manages the amount of cheap labour that flows into the US every year. Aside from the anti-white racism, it reads like something that could appear in the National Review.

Non-responsive "first responders" in California (Oh, sweet St. Andreas ... ) do the public-sector-employee version of "going John Gault". One intimates he might do the right thing, but only if it were not his job. Did Rand foresee this, too?

I'm for more of this. Could there be a faster way to bring down the entire rotten house?

"Angela Merkel and Nicolas Sarkozy reach ‘joint position’ on Greece after crisis talks (6)

Angela Merkel and Nicolas Sarkozy were said to have reached a “joint position” on a Greek bail-out on Wednesday night amid warnings that failure to agree a strategy would cause global financial shock waves within 24 hours.

European Union leaders waited anxiously as the German chancellor and French president held seven hours of talks in Berlin on breaking their deadlock over Europe’s debt crisis.

Late last night Steffen Seibert, Mrs Merkel’s spokesman, issued a statement in which he said the two leaders had reached a “joint position on Greece’s debt situation”.

They had “listened to” arguments brought forward by Jean-Claude Trichet, the president of the European Central Bank, and exchanged views with Herman Van Rompuy, the EU president, by telephone, Mr Seibert added.

The joint Franco-German position will be presented to leaders of the 17 eurozone countries at a summit in Brussels today. They will try to reach agreement on a new €115 billion (£101 billion) bail-out for Greece, while also preventing the crisis spreading.

European leaders have described the talks as the “last chance saloon” for the euro.

"Wall St. Makes Fallback Plans for Debt Crisis"

"Lawmakers in Washington are racing to reach a deal to save the country from defaulting on its debt, but on Wall Street, financial players are devising doomsday plans in case the clock runs out.

These companies are taking steps to reduce the risk of holding Treasury bonds or angling for ways to make profits from any possible upheaval. And even if a deal is reached in Washington, some in the industry fear that the dickering has already harmed the country’s market credibility.

On Wall Street, Treasuries function like a currency,".

Forgive my ignorance, EBD...what do you mean by egregious trolls? I'll never know if I don't ask...

Scott, there's a recent infestation of sorts by a troll who goes by a single letter of the alphabet. It's one thing to see the occasional idiotic comment but to see 6+ in a row, none of them contributing to the discussion, that's a bit much. It's the equivalent of going into a civil meeting and shouting or screaming, purely with the intent to disrupt it. This is the clear modus operandi of a Leftard and designed to stifle the opinions of others. That's why it won't be tolerated.

I don't think he considers himself a troll, but he certainly does seem to act like one. If he's reading this I'd avise him to avoid the scatology, and maybe limit himself to one comment per hour or something. If he could try to write stuff that means something it might be nice.

Again, trying to help; after all everyone loves advice.

Thanks Robert.

"Toward the end of Feynman’s life, his conservative view of quantum science became unfashionable. The fashionable theorists reject his dualistic picture of nature, with the classical world and the quantum world existing side by side. They believe that only the quantum world is real, and the classical world must be explained as some kind of illusion arising out of quantum processes. They disagree about the way in which quantum laws should be interpreted. Their basic problem is to explain how a world of quantum probabilities can generate the illusions of classical certainty that we experience in our daily lives. Their various interpretations of quantum theory lead to competing philosophical speculations about the role of the observer in the description of nature.

Feynman had no patience for such speculations. He said that nature tells us that both the quantum world and the classical world exist and are real. We do not understand precisely how they fit together. According to Feynman, the road to understanding is not to argue about philosophy but to continue exploring the facts of nature. In recent years, a new generation of experimenters has been advancing along Feynman’s road with great success, moving into the new worlds of quantum computing and quantum cryptography."

With all due respect and in defense of the trolls, I would ask you to reconsider if their posts are somewhat on topic, not profane, opening SDA up to legal scrutiny or so far out in left field that they warrant protection by the almighty delete key. Thank you.

[There's no need for me to reconsider anything, because you're barking up the wrong tree. I rarely delete the comments of what a lot of people might consider "trolls." I don't consider people who have opposing views, even when they're poorly expressed, to be trolls. I used the word "egregious" advisedly in this case to refer to someone whose serial, compulsive comments are a) frequently profane (making vulgar, context-less references to female body parts), b) never on any topic as far as I can see, and c) so far out in left field that he's long since exited the stadium. Anyone who posts six or ten inane, vulgar, and entirely OT -- essentially arbitrary -- neural firings, apropos of absolutely nothing, in the space of ten minutes is out of here, 100% of the time. -- EBD]

British shipping consultant killed in Yemen terrorist attack

macd's link to Nazi pilgrimages reminded me of a discovery I made on youtube, last week. While searching for yodeling videos, I came across a group of pro-nazi videos. Many of them had millions of hits. The more I clicked on, the more appeared on the side bar. I think the neo-nazi movement is a bit larger than most of us realize. I don't really care, there are plenty of crazies out there just as bad as skin heads, but the historical accuracy and obvious pride was a bit troubling.
