Well, after 48 hours of great fun & frivolity, my 3 German guests have commenced their spectacular journey down the beautiful West Coast of America. In their honour, I would like to turn back the clock to 1984 and present to you the classic pop hit from Nena (aka Gabriele Susanne Kerner) entitled 99 Luftballons [sic]. A remake of sorts was done in 2009, on the 25th Anniversary of the song.

Your lofty Reader Tips are welcome, as always, in the comments.

"Obedient wives club", pretext for legalizing polygamy in Indonesia

by Mathias Hariyadi
The club, based on the original Malaysian model divides the country. The goal is to teach women total devotion to their husbands, even in the sexual sphere. For activists it is a pretext to justify marriage with several women. Islamic scholar: the relationship is like a car, the husband is the driver and the wife a "submissive and obedient" passenger.

"Independent | Starvation returns to the Horn of Africa

In the Horn of Africa, unseen as yet by the world’s television cameras, a pitiful trek of the hungry is taking place. Tens of thousands of children are walking for weeks across a desiccated landscape to reach refugee camps that are now overflowing. They are being driven there by one of the worst droughts in the region for 60 years which, combined with the war in Somalia and soaring food prices, is threatening a famine that could affect between eight and 10 million people.

How do English death panels differ from Obamacare death panels? Well, for one thing, the soothing accent is different.

Efficiency and savings are all that we crave
Which is why we suggest you die now
And of course we will speed you to your waiting grave
With a courteous and courtly bow
Just lie down be comfy and go with a smile
It’s over in just little time
A needle, a drop from this gay colored vial
Just remember you’re not in your prime
And what is more sir please remember that you
Are not working and live on the dole
So needless to say you’re the head of the queue
Putting Exchequer quite in the hole
We really don’t like offing gents of your age
But it’s for your own good don’t you know
The road that you’re taking is now all the rage
Now let’s give them a jolly good show"

"Chronically ill baby boomers clogging doctors’ offices: study"

"A survey of 12,000 doctors shows they are having a hard time dealing with aging baby boomers and their increasing caseload of chronic illness.

It’s the second national report in the space of a week warning that chronic illness is pushing Canada’s health-care system to the brink.

The National Physician Survey is conducted every few years by the College of Family Physicians of Canada and other doctors’ groups."

Interview with a former Islamic terrorist. He advises us to never compromise with muslims as they perceive that as being weak. Nice to hear a muslim praise Israel as a great country.

Need some help. I am hearing from Liberal fiends that the answer to any and all of our political ills is .... a Benevolent Dictatorship. They are dead serious !! How does one respond to that?

A proud moment for Canada? There's a Canadian ship in the Gazilla Flotilla. Here's their webpage and their list of endorsements. Make your cheques payable to Alternatives International. How much money from Canadian taxpayers goes to fund this outrage?

The Vancouver province has called for "scrapping of the useless Carbon Tax". Take heed, that paper was one of the cheerleaders for the tax in the first place.

"The carbon tax might make sense if it actually reduced fuel use. But according to Statistics Canada, B.C. gasoline sales have risen each full year since the tax was introduced. As well, B.C. greenhouse-gas emissions — well under the national average any way due to our great hydroelectric wealth — also continue to rise. B.C.'s plan to cut emissions by a third by 2020 is clearly delusional.

With no other jurisdictions in North American embracing a carbon tax, the levy places B.C. businesses at a competitive disadvantage. And since B.C. residents, particularly families, have no sensible alternatives to using gasoline to get around, or natural gas to heat their homes, there's nothing "Family First" about the tax.

Premier Christy Clark should do us all a favour and scrap it."

Carbon Tax = Tax Grab. Obvious to all, even the government, who will do anything, say anything, and lie....means to an end, of course.

Canada is going to hold military exercises in the Arctic.

This just after Russia announced the move of two battalions of Special Forces to the high Arctic to consolidate their claim to a big chunk of the 68,000 square km in dispute.

Lots of oil up there, should get interesting.

And good for Harper to see the Russian strategy and respond.

Wow what a shocker that our carbon tax failed to reduce fuel consumption. Who would have thought? I wonder how long it will take the average conservative voter to realize they've been duped by these turds. They have nothing to do with conservatism. They are not a "free-enterprise coalition". There's no difference between them and the NDP.

ron in kelowna, J. Chretien. How did that work out. Plus what if the benevolent dictator isn't a Liberal? I used to hear this at work from ex-Ontarians a lot.

You could always tell them to "get bent" but, you know, ending in "off".

My first thought was, why bother responding - they're idiots. Where in history are there these wonderful example of Benevolent Dictators remaining benevolent - Mao, Castro, Chavez? Just today I read a Guardian article in which Norm Chomsky scolds Hugo for human rights violations and his "assault on democracy".

"Hugo Chávez has long considered Noam Chomsky one of his best friends in the west. He has basked in the renowned scholar's praise for Venezuela's socialist revolution and echoed his denunciations of US imperialism...The president may be about to have second thoughts about that, because his favourite intellectual has now turned his guns on Chávez.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/jul/03/noam-chomsky-hugo-chavez-democracy

Of course it is Noam, not Norm (I must be having an 80's TV Cheers flashback).

Ron, of course every Leftard wants a "Benevolent Dictatorship" - it's in their DNA. The entire raison d'etre of Leftism is get interfere deep into the lives of every single person they can. Any who dare to object are penalized/punished through taxation, incarceration, and sometimes even violence. Leftists are completely fine with this.

But on a practical matter, the next time that a Leftist Canadian tells you they want a Benevolent Dictatorship, ask them these two questions:

1. You dislike Stephen Harper, yes?

2. Haven't you or others on the left referred to him as a dictator?

ron in kelowna,
All dictators are benevolent to the ones that support them.
The ones who don't like being dictated to...not so much.

Ask them if they want an empowered King or a Queen pre-Magna Carta and them remind them of the history surrounding that particular document.
Then remind them that the children of said dictators aren't always benevolent.

Thank-you for the links to that flotilla disgrace, nick at July 3, 2011 11:26 AM.

I note that Mahar Arar is on that list as is the MP from B.C. Southern Interior, Alex Atamanenko. Judy Rebick and Linda McQuaig - both writters of msm. Glen Beck has been exposing this group for months and he has determined that this is not a food flotilla, it is a arms supplier thing - it is a covert attempt to attack Israel. The details are all at Glenbeck.com.

Do the people of B.C. southern interior know the person that they elected to represent them in Ottawa? Does anyone here know Atamanenko's background? Does he know Arar? Is Arar still banned from the USA? Is he spending the millions we gave him to attack Israel, our only friend in the M.E. Something smells pretty bad.

May all those boats sink to the bottom of the ocean before they flop off the banks of Greece.

"Need some help. I am hearing from Liberal fiends that the answer to any and all of our political ills is .... a Benevolent Dictatorship. They are dead serious !! How does one respond to that?"

Simple. Just grin and say, "I'm OK with that, as long as I (strong emphasis there!) get to define benevolent."

When they object, as they no doubt will, then you can explain to them that what they really yearn for is not a "benevolent" dictator, but rather a dictator who adheres to their own world view, one who supports the right set of "good guys" and hates the right set of "bad guys."
