Today, I filled in a Green Energy grant application. I'm going to manufacture Green Renewable Energy Extension Devices.
![]()
At 100 km long, they will enable sparky cars...

...to plug into giant fans.

Thus completing the renewable energy cycle, enabling taxpayer funds to flow uninterrupted into the great flaming money pit of idiotic, left-wing public policy.

Except of course, when the fan-thingies don't work, which is most of the time.
and the buffetting! the annoying buffetting! it's only one the annoying fan thingies are turned off does one realize how disconcerting that fan really is. maybe mr dyson has a cool green machine that works better?
$2.5 million from various taxpayer-funded sources? Pfft! That would barely cover the salaries of the company head and his family and friends, no wonder they went under broke.
Why not just put a sail on the stupid thing. Probbly the most efficient use of wind power.
Another example of tax payers paying fo worthless green technology.
A Recurring theme?
All of that money is now gone, according to Green Vehicles President and Co-Founder Mike Ryan.
after the city gave Ryan a $300,000 community development grant ... an additional $240,000. Green Vehicles also received a $2 million grant from the California Energy Commission.
Salinas Mayor Dennis Donohue said he was "surprised and disappointed" by the news.
And now they're trying to claw back the financial incentives! Bwhahahahaha...
Engineers, scientists, mathematicians, software developers, and other technically inclined people tend to be politically conservative or libertarian. Thus left-wing political parties are often scientifically naive, making them easy prey for high-tech myths and con artists.
So when are they building the high-speed monorail?
"So when are they building the high-speed monorail?"
Those things will take a lot of cord. Get in on the ground floor while you still can!
Kate
The cords might get tangled up a bit...other than that...
Wanna bet Dulton is on the phone right now trying to get that defunct company to set up shop in Ontario ?
Great Scott, rabbit, where do you work? I've been working in the engineering and software development fields for fifteen years and trust me, the techies here are as brainwashed as anyone else.
More so, actually; they suffer from the "I am an expert in this narrow technical field, ergo I must also be an expert in everything else" problem.
Jeez, coupla days above 30 and Kate's gone all green on us.
Slightly off topic but today I saw an ad on a fishing show for a German-made solar powered electric motor boat. I hope the thing comes standard with oars.
Daniel Ream
You hit the bullseye. Many specialized folk equate knowledge in a narrow field with a broader wisdom.
The last great generalist was Leonardo.
So basically he wanted to make an electric Robin Reliant.
Genius.
Never mind the car where can I find a cord to connect to one of those big fans, at 34C me and my dogs need one.
Kate
I would like to add a little something to your GREEN package. It's to help out disgruntled operators of the sparky cars when the extension devices become tangled. Here is my prototype

China made cheaper solar panel in compare with Canada and USA
why
cost is cheap and made for weather of Canada
and home insurnace cover any theft and damage to solar systmes.
if we can buy electicry from own solar roof is better.
as result nuclear wast will reduced in world and Canada
good news
first solar car invented in 1970 I guess
Iran made solar car too with no fill electicty too
Wouldn't a better plan be to power the big fans at a high enough speed that sails on the backs of the cars become feasible? I'm sure gas, coal, hydro or nuclear generation plants dotted across the landscape should be able to get those fans spinning like tops if you replace the generators in them with big, powerful electric motors.
lol
Lucky the folks who don't live in McGuinty's Ontario with dumb "Smart" meters and dumb "Smart" cars" and dumb wind turbines and dumb solar panels and to add insult to injury we have lawns taken over by noxious weeds. All in the name of.... what is it they call it again?
It's so cute when Kate does her little happy dance :)
If that "vehicle" has a USB port, I'm pretty sure that if you plugged an Ipad in and removed the batteries you could convince the hippies that you could run it wirelessly. No extension cords required!
Ryan outlined three mistakes he made .... All three reasons boiled down failing to generate enough capital.
Shucks he ran out of other peoples money.
It seems they were in the chase for even more California state cash... they were promised 2.7 million if they could raise 2.8 million on their own......
"The reason why we failed is because we failed to raise the $2.8 million in matching funds," says former VP of Green Vehicles, Lee Colin, a Pacific Grove resident. Green Vehicles had planned to start making cars by the end of 2011.

... I was looking for a federal / Obama connection to this fiasco.
Although I can claim plausible deny-ability, a friend in the Ontariario power industry (formerly known as Ontario Hydro), told me that folks selling solar power to the system are actually running lights aimed at the panels to increase their output. Since they can sell green power to the guvm't at 10x the rate they buy it, the profits are not too shabby. You just have to make sure you don't get caught like Spain and sell solar power at night.
btw, same source mentioned that the main jobs at solar panel farms will be washing the dirt and bird poop off the panels to keep them producing efficiently. Finally, a career move for squeegee kids.
Texas-Canuck
If it saves one squeegee kid from the street...
olde Newfie joke....newfie invented an electric car, his twin brother invented the 500 mile extension cord
sheesh SDA is sure beHIND the times on this one:-))))
"a friend in the Ontariario power industry (formerly known as Ontario Hydro), told me that folks selling solar power to the system are actually running lights aimed at the panels to increase their output"
Given that the efficiency of light-bulbs is about 10%, and the efficiency of your typical solar panel is in the neighborhood of 20%, either your friend is full of it, or the people doing it are losing money. Even if the government was paying 25 times as much for the electricity as what they're charging, you wouldn't even break even.
A friend in the airforce once told me that santa is real. Do you believe him, too?
there are miles of drastically reduced Noma X-mas tree green cords to had, come January at places like Cambodian Tire(You just try to cash check!)
so that solves the power supply. can I get a grant for this?
30? Hell, try 20, what's 20?
That carbonny taxy thingy works real good, it's eliminated any kind of warmth on BC, what an amazing trick that was.
If it wasn't for the tax, BC would be suffering from that globally warming, climate changy thing the polar bears are worried about....
Alex
Santa as an individual or a personification?
I'll pay you on Tuesday for a flat broke electric car company today....
You might be on to something with Wireless lol!!
Alex, didn't you get spanked hard enough the last time you tried to argue solar efficiency?
Far as I remember, last time I discussed solar efficiency I had a whole bunch of "derp derp" and "you leftard!" from the peanut gallery, and not a single intelligent response among them. I suppose that would count as "spanking" among individuals who are immature enough to use that term.
Alex
If you have the time could you clarify the Santa thing?
Green
Renewable
Energy
Extention
Device
I see what you did there ^_^
Coincidentally i was driving through stephenville NL today and saw a storefront banner advertising that the store housed the future of wind energy...
It was shuttered... IOW tits-up
"If you have the time could you clarify the Santa thing?"
Individual, obviously. I figured you were just being a smartass, so didn't bother answering. You honestly couldn't figure out the answer from the context?
China made cheaper solar panel in compare with Canada and USA
why
why? ...because in China they can dump the toxic effluent from the factories making solar panels right into the environment to poison people. Most people in N.America don't want that happening in their back yard. Disposing toxic waste safely and securely isn't cheap. That's one reason goods produced in N.America are more expensive. The other reason is factory wages and benefits in China are much much less than what N.Americans will tolerate.
Just put the fan up on top, and connect it to yer generator.
Then, as you drive along, the wind drives the fan that generates the licktricity that drives the motor.
The faster you go, the better it works.
Alex
So you are aware of context then? What say you regarding specialization?
It didn't sell because it was a stupid idea put forward by an egotistical idiot and bought into by ignorant politicians.

Obviously, the Germans are too smart to go fishing in the rain!
Some day, I hope to be that smart, too. :)
Government Motors shut them down!!!! Didn't want some upstart taking market share from the very, very, successful Volt ... money market share that is ... sales are/were about the same for the two companies.
I see one problem with the plan.
You need a wench. Or is that winch?
Something(one) to take up the cord when you reach your destination.
Salinas Mayor Dennis Donohue said he was "surprised and disappointed" by the news.

Government people (especially left leaning ones) can't seem to get it through their heads that if it actually was a good business idea, they wouldn't have needed a cent of taxpayer money. When the private venture capitalists won't risk their money, that should be a red light.
I was in Port Alberni twice recently and noted that a small company specializing in solar products and electric scooters had gone out of business.
I wonder if the fact that I got soaked to the skin on both trips could have had anything to do with their lack of success?
On another 'green' note, my wife and I invested about $25K in a local company that developed a fully enclosed system for salmon farming. It was brilliant in conception and might have solved myriad 'environmental problems' - perceived or otherwise - and they actually had private investment of about $8 million, with ancillary operations in Chile.
What killed it? Greenies, who were so opposed to salmon farming that they were unwilling to re-adjust their positions. They were (are) so determined that only on-shore farming be done, that they were prepared to throw the proverbial baby out with the bath water. On shore farming is and will always be uneconomic, unless you don't mind paying $20/lb for your fish.
But at least this company took their product to the private investment market and while I regret the loss of my $25K, I can say I participated as a true free market venture capitalist!
Trial and error is at the core of every human invention.
Just read about early aviation history. It was not pretty I tell you.
