Mark Steyn sticks it to the Gray Lady--and twists:
...On the whole, I prefer an unrespectable reptilian press sticking its foot in the grieving widow’s doorway to, say, a media of portentous over-credentialed unreadable drones with no greater ambition than to serve as court eunuchs to the Obama administration. If the National Enquirer operated to the high-minded standards of the New York Times, John Edwards might now be vice president or attorney general. If Murdoch’s tabloids “destroy lives,” as the Times airily claims, they’re at least equal-opportunity destroyers, as willing to plaster a Tory rent-boy over the front page as a Labour one.By contrast, the New York Times happily colluded in the destruction of the Duke lacrosse players’ lives for no reason other than ideological predisposition to a politically correct narrative. I would say that, whether through malice or intellectual torpor, that kind of bias is far more damaging to public discourse...
The Times did print this today by Roger Cohen:
In Defense of Murdoch
One Wonders What Gluey Huey Thinks of Bloggers

"...a media of portentous over-credentialed unreadable drones with no greater ambition than to serve as court eunuchs ..."
Alive and well and living in Canada, too.
Witness the media reaction to Taliban Jack's sojurn in a Toronto brothel vs. Stephen Harper taking Communion at Romeo Leblanc's funeral.
Balanced, that.

Looks like a job application.
Mark Steyn is cutting as always and the Roger Cohen defense of Murdoch is interesting in many ways.
dizzy...you hiring?
Funny how the NY Times loved hacking when it was a Wikileaks deal and hates it when it is Hugh Grant.
The NYT has many faults; an absence of readable English is not one of them. Steyn would do well to learn from them. For all the common sense that he peddles, he still hasn't learnt how to write English properly. His English is really quite tepid.
for all acquaintance
...that was forgettable...
Wow! for all acquintance has written the single stupidest comment ever on SDA, or possibly the whole entire blogosphere, or maybe in the history of the English language! Congrats! Does Kate have a prize for that?
("Tepid: Showing little enthusiasm: Lukewarm" Yep, that's Steyn in a nutshell.)
You know that "Reader of the Day"(?) feature Steyn has? Someone should really show him this - and by someone I mean Kate, 'cause I bet he'd read her emails.
for all acquaintance at 6:13 PM
yer just lucky Steyn ain't a dyslexic,:-))))
syncrodox
Bravo!!!
I so love to go to a Steyn BBQ.
Served well done of course.
Revnant Dream
Stampede and all that...BBQ wise..;-)
Eeyucchh! How about a little warning that the link redirects to a gay erotic literature sight?
It's all the pot calling the kettle back, except the kettle has sprung a leak.
We can come up with any number of reprehensible things so-called respectable newspapers have gotten away with. News of the World got caught and that seems to be a greater sin than lying and sycophancy.
OK .... exactly................
There is something missing from the whole story.
Are the other "journalists" not looking, in case they may find something that they are not confortable with?
This seem to be a organized effort to get rid of Murdoch's media empire. Many of the socialist and US democrat's pursuation are obviously not happy with Murdoch.
Will wait and observe.
I with Mamba 100%. Acquaintance's comment has to be the most unbelievably idiotic comment of all time on SDA.
Can we not have a prize for this fool? Maybe we can arrange for a dinner with Bono or something like that.
TJ
Bono, Jack Layton, Paul Martin, David Suzuki, Al Gore, Sean Penn and George Cluny...that should fix em...
Results! for all acquaintance, you're famous, baby!
When the lightweight gadfly Hooeey Grant can show a murder tally like the ten million dead Ukrainians whose humanity was betrayed by the libtard maroon at the NY Slimes, then maybe i'll grant he has a point.
Until then, shove it.
If the CBC stood accused of doing here what Murdoch's company has be doing in England, there wouldn't be a poster on here who wouldn't be howling.
What Murdoch's company has been doing is hacking four thousand people's phones including those of the royal family, Scotland Yard police officers, and politicians including a sitting Prime Minister. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't any one of those a felony?
They paid bribes to police officers to aid and abet in committing illegal acts. A few years back, when the lead Yard detective was investigating the tip of the iceberg of this stuff we see today, he couldn't find any wrong doing and dropped the matter only to take a job with Murdoch's news corp.
On several occasions during his investigation, several higher ups at the Yard were out having dinner and drinks with Murdoch. The main suspect in the investigation ended up working in the Prime Minister's office.
That pretty grim, and not withstanding Mr. Steyn's comparison to the NY Times, we can't lose sight of that.
rupert murdoch, hero to the right wing.
see what ardent ideology does to the brain?
The NYT is dying a slow death chiefly because it long ago abandoned any attempt at political objectivity and has instead become a guard and clarion for the DNC.
As Steyn points out, they all but ignore the controversial story about the murdered border patrol agent because it has ties back to the DNC and President Obama, to their everlasting shame.
They are all so predictable, these gasping once bastions of so called "news", like watching the demise of an animal mortally wounded, the thrashing, twisting, screaming out, and biting at anything close, please just go away NYT CBC etc. The urnalism schools of the last thirty years have been nothing less than organized cults operating on the taxpayers dime, the proof is so obvious. Here in Canada we have the sorriest of urnalists at the CBC and Torstar, in fact over at the Star they have a communal toilet in the editing room, at the bottom of the bowl is a picture of Steven Harper, and all the Martins Kinsellas etc are encouraged to take their daily dump, of which is obviously Never flushed, it is truly a mental disorder when your finances are devasted because of your hatred of anything successful like FOX NEWS.
bob c - if the CBC did "what Murdoch's company has be doing in England", and then got put to sleep, like the News of the World, I'd be more than happy.
