Indeed.

Socialist maroons never met a monopoly they did not like.

On labour, on market choice, on opinion, etc

Agreed! The south end of a north bound moose also comes to mind.

He is an idiot in more ways than one. He has the Wheat Board confused with the Wheat Pool. The Wheat Board was NOT formed so that farmers would not be gouged by "robber barons" - that was the Wheat Pool Elevators in Alberta and Saskatchewan. The Wheat Board was formed to provide a source of cheap grain to ship overseas to fuel the war effort. It kept prices artificially low in the war years to keep the allies well stocked in food. Maybe someone ought to give that guy a history lesson. Plus, Stalin was a communist - the Wheat Board would have been right up his ally along with murdering a bunch of his people.

Thank You Petra for pointing that out as many including Martin don't see (or want to see) the difference.

All of the above. The maker of the video is right, Pat is a moron.

The morons in the NDP party have no reason to be ashamed of the moron, Pat Martin ... they are all morons or they wouldn't be socialists who don't even understand what socialism is, they just live it because they were taught that 'we are all in this together'.

Is there a single political party in Canada that has the kaunas to tell it like it is? The NDP and Libels are so off the wall that I tune them out automatically. Unfortunately there are many who do listen to them and believe!

Harper and the CPC on average act better but their message is always massaged to attract easterners. Their government is doing nothing to inform the people about the real financial condition the country is faced with. Their government is also still spending tax dollars ineffectively and I suspect with the conviction that they are doing a good job doing so. Without a clear philosophical conviction I suspect this government will be infiltrated by more MPs like Mr. Moore who has no problem giving morally bankrupt outfits like the CBC more money.

The irony of invoking Stalin in a wheat discussion is lost on Martin.

He should look up the history of Stalin confiscating the Ukrainian wheat crop and starving 6 million people to death.

In a Democracy, someone has to represent the idiots. In Canada, that's the NDP's job to represent 30% of English speaking Canadian imbeciles and judging from the last election, 75% of Quebecers too.

In the US, it's the ones that would still vote for Soetoro today.

Interesting,

The socialist is running interference here.

Stalin must be one of his heroes.

What a maroon.

What a moron.

"2. Harvest and Climatic Conditions

The "natural disaster" excuse to cover up the 1933 Famine-Genocide does not hold water. It was not caused by some natural calamity or crop failure:

1.The 1931 harvest was 18.3 million tons of grain.
2.The 1932 harvest was 14.6 million tons of grain.
3.The 1933 harvest was 22.3 million tons of grain.
4.The 1934 harvest was 12.3 million tons of grain.
In 1934 during the poorest harvest - a mere 12.3 - there was no massive famine because Stalin reduced the grain requisition quotas and even released grain from existing "state stockpiles" to feed the population.
The highest death rates were in the grain growing provinces of Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad and Odessa: usually 20-25%, although higher in many villages.

6. Exports

The Soviet regime dumped 1.7 million tons of grain on the Western markets at the height of the Famine. It exported nearly a quarter of a ton of grain for every Ukrainian who starved to death.

7. Victims and Losses

•At the height of the Famine Ukrainian villagers were dying at the rate of 25,000 per day or 1,000 per hour or 17 per minute.
•By comparison the Allied soldiers died at the rate of 6,000 per day during the Battle of Verdun.
•Among the children one in three perished as a consequence of collectivization and the famine.
•According to dissident Soviet demographer M. Maksudov "no fewer than three million children born between 1932-1933 died of hunger."
•80% of Ukrainian intellectuals were liquidated because they refused to collaborate in the extermination of their countrymen.

•Star reporter Walter Duranty of the New York Times set the tone for most of the Western press coverage with authoritative denials of starvation and referred to the Famine as the "alleged ‘man-made' famine of 1933."
•However, according to British Diplomatic Reports, Duranty off the record, conceded that "as many as 10 million" may have perished.
•For his reporting Walter Duranty received the Pulitzer Prize for journalism. To this date the New York Times refuses to revoke the prize and still lists Duranty among its Pulitzer winners."

Pat Martin's allegation wrt to the Harper government is grotesque and insane. If he has any sense he will apologize immediately.

This is almost as good as CRA's "love letter from Dr. Mengele" to me, wrt to the disability tax credit and how diabetics should withhold treatment to prove organ failure for the purposes of the DTC. Of course if diabetics did this, it would result in 19 million deaths more than all the Jews and Ukranians combined!! Thank you former LIEberal government...asshats one and all.

Cheers

Once the brain tumor is removed, Pat's improved personality should help getting him laid.

Quick someone give him Libby's number...

Next year I will grow wheat for the first time in 15 years. With the WB gone the price will be right.

There is not a whole lot to say here. Genuinely stupid people are extremely predictable. They will act in stupid ways. What Mr. Martin said didn't have one iota of sense (common or not) attached to it. But lefties ignoring historical precedents, "facts" and instead conjuring of frightful images of scary conservatives should not surprise us. It is the left who gets insulted the most and by proxy insults the most. (It is a stretch to say this is an insult as there is no basis, no truth. Sort of like calling a donkey a tiger. Would the donkey be offended? Just simply not true...)

Genuine moose derriere.

To the NDP, being like Stalin is now a *bad* thing? The world is upside down.

He forgot to say that farmers were serfs, mere chattel, before the glorious rise of the CWB, whose sword, swift and sure, slew the robber barons. He might as well, since the rest of his ad lib was even more moronic.

Actually, the man seems to be of normal intelligence. He gets away with towing the evil statist party line because he safely operates within the cocoon of leftist, fascist, socialist, statist pseudo-intellectual-media-professoriate-union thug group-think.

The left is so completely entrenched now that the concept of a willing buyer and seller without the omniscience (backed by brute force) of the state commanding and controlling is completely foreign as it conflicts with an almost perfect precedence of statism as a ratchet.

Pat Martin is not a Moron, he is a typical (evil)looter and thug.

Someone please apologize to the moose!

So is he going to try and force Quebec and Ontario into the CWB. Or is it just the Western Canadians who are to be held captive on the Socialist Slave Ship Canada.

Theatre seat gum, steamy piles left by canines and the NDP:ignore as irksome annoyances.

I must admit I'm bewildered by Martin's language. How can it be "Stalinist" to provide farmers with the choice of participating in the Wheat Board or not? This is about granting choice, not removing it. The government isn't even proposing to dismantle the Wheat Board, merely to make it voluntary.

Pat must surely be aware that he's standing on a manure spreader for a platform.

And exactly how much coverage did this ignorant comment get in the MSM? How many op-eds were written about it in the newspapers? Zero.

I sure hope Harper doesn't stop with the wheat board. I would like to see him unwind the dairy marketing controls as well.

Fred: Add Mao Stlong's* corpses to the socialist Tower of Death.

Mao's death count is unknown. Facts are meaningless to the Martinist socialists. The socialists climb/clamber over the corpses as they ascend to their utopia in the clouds.

Estimates of "Mao Zedong's China range between 19.5 million and 75 million."

Source: Black Book of Communism.

*Mao Stlong is Liberal leader Basement Bob Rae's Uncle Mo Strong.

The wheat board was formed during the 1930's.It was a time when all things socialist were touted as a good thing.Stalin was a hero,Duranty of the New York Times said he was as he extolled the many accomplishments of the Soviet system thru out Russia even tho he never left Moscow and was fed his information by the Soviet information service. The soviet system finally collapsed, thanks to Pres. Reagan, but the wheat board lives on. Steven Harper can be our Pres.Reagan and tear down the wheat boards wall.

C.D. Howe brought the CWB in during a time of war to supply our troops and those of the allies with suppressed pricing because it was a war-measure sacrifice in which all "Canadians" were expected to sacrifice and participate for the good of the country. It was a unifying force, for sure, and very good during those times in history.

But just like most big government programs under wartime measures, they are a huge money maker for the utopians and statists. They see a cash cow and are not willing to let it be gored. They are like Gollum with the "ring", "mine...all mine". The state sees the huge dollars which are available and strip the private sector of their ideas and throw vast amounts of money at programs to push the "little guy" out of business.

The CWB has its place, but should be relegated to its proper place in society, ONE of the options for a "free market" to be established and used to advance our society.

Stand by for the whining when the CWB is gone and wheat prices tank.

Just another reason why not to go to winterpeg

How in the world does a guy like this even get elected????

I thought I'd be clever and coin a phrase with "Godvinov's Law".

But I'm too late.

Oh yeah, Pat Martin is a Moron, case closed.
Those who vote for him are in the same classification.

He's not a Moron, just depraved with greedy ignorance.

Pat Martin is merely an arrogant fool who thinks he's intelligent. I watched this idiot interviewed in a radio studio, along with another politician who disagreed with him and touched his elbow to interject an opposing thought, whereupon Mr. Self-Important snarled, "If you touch me again, I'll knock your teeth down your throat."

But, that's exactly what constitutes socialism, where a group of thugs march in goose-step to an elitist ideology, and are convinced that everyone else is just a member of the great unwashed. Pat Martin is true to his roots, just like most of the diehard dippers who were elected by ignorant Canadians.

Hans and spike 1 must have read The Harvest of Sorrow by Robert Conquest.

Walter Duranty was a scumbag and fudged his reports in order to maintain his reporter status in Moscow. He never went to look in the countryside. Typical Marxist liberal and much of the modern media follows in his footsteps.

The villagers on the Russian side of the Russian-Ukraine border had food, but there was non to be had on the Ukrainian side, as it was even against the law to eat from the Ukrainian villagers own little plots if the grain and meat requisition quotas were not met. People attempting to cross the border to find food were arrested and sent back to their villages. Cannibalism was rampant.

Some villages that had relatives in North America and received food parcels which helped stave off starvation. However later in the late 1930s those who received parcels were arrested for spying for the west.

I would suspect that if Pat Martin had his way western Canadian farmers would be herded into collective farms.

Pat the angry commie needs to chill out at say a Hutterite colony where the cult of the collective is on full display. Angry Pat could work for 8 dollars a month, eat boiled pork chops with the women and children, watch no television, listen to no radio, have no fridge or stove in his sparse house and have a great time living what he thinks anyone but him should live. This stupid ass clamours for attention constantly, his rants are like a spoiled child in a Walmart aisle, he makes me sick to my stomach, his angry face reminds me of an Ayatollah, Ayatollah Pat Dopeameini. Shove off Pat, when the price of wheat is double in Minot to Canadas price, what part of more money can a butt-brain like Pat not even understand.

Ken (Kulak) there's a fair number of us that have read Harvest of Sorrow / Gulag Archipelago and the like, who can never believe of how the msm tells us socialism isn't that bad...
Earlier today, Kate posted a call for a "SDA Book Club" list, Tyler, they're not "light summer reading" but highly recommended still.

John Chittick at July 12, 2011 1:03 PM

Very comprehensive, an excellent observation.

marc, agreed and I not only read all of the comments, but also submitted my own partial list. I did not submit Harvest of Sorrows because someone might want to go out an punch a socialist rather than enjoy a summer holiday read in a hammock.

That moron Pat Martin might want to go visit my relatives in Germany who left the home of the glorious experiment in 1990.

Pat Martin ..... always doing us Winnipegers proud... he is also a nasty SoB.

You could call him one of the elder statesmen of the ndp since he has managed to stay around for .... seems like about 30 years.

Pat is an intellectual, as defined by the NDP.

He did read a (comic) book.

...uhhmm...Graphic Novel.

Hans,

Thanks for posting those facts. My great grandparents (my mother's side) were farmers near Odessa. Their farm was seized by the Bolsheviks and they were arrested and sent off to a 'work' (starvation) camp. My grandfather initially fled to Siberia, then eventually got out of Siberia shortly before the Bolsheviks clamped down there. He and my grandmother were able to get to Canada (through a series of small miracles). He started a farm north of Mortlach, SK and made it successful primarily because of an extremely rigorous work ethic. My cousins continue to operate that farm today.

My grandparents eventually learned that my great grandmother starved to death in one of Stalin's work camps, but were not obtain information about my great grandfather.

Pat Martin is a disgusting idiot. It sickens me that he is the MP of the constituency that I live in.

rove, you never farmed under the wheat boards monopoly power,I have.In 1969-72 the initial price for wheat was about $1.25 a bushel and the feed price was a penny a pound or .60 cents a bushel. The board price sounds better but there was a small problem,THEY WERE'NT BUYING ANY. There were thousands of bushels of #1 northern wheat sold for feed so that farmers could put food on the table. Many small farmers sold out and left farming at that time. This condition continued till 1972 when I bought my fathers farm as I was in the seed business. This was also the year that the feds paid farmers NOT to grow a crop.My friends father owned three quarters of land (480 acres) and 30 cows.He got more for the 30 cows than he did for those 480 acres, buildings included. Before the latest hike in grain prices, the wheat board got less for wheat, adjusted for inflation, than the farmers got in the depths of the 1930's depression.Next time, inform yourself before posting about something that you know nothing about.

Martin: "stamping out the right of these farmers to act together"?

They already have the right to act together; no one is proposing to take that away. They also have the right to act separately. They will be able to choose to pool their grain or market it separately. This is consistent with individual rights. The current situation is not, as Martin well knows. He's trying to pull the wool over our eyes.

A standard leftist tactic is to try to blur the distinction between voluntary and coerced, in an attempt to make the latter appear not undesirable. They do this of course is because their goal to gain as much power through government as possible. Clearly, Martin is using it here. Frankly I think this concept is more important than anything on the list of Alinsky's Rules for Radicals.

The one thing that makes government stand apart from other institutions is the power to use coercion. Government is supposed to use coercion as a retaliatory measure when people beat each other up. It is not supposed to use coercion when people want to sell their crops.

Many leftists want to get a parasitical job within government, where they can push people around (through "policy-making") with close to zero accountability, draw a fat unionized salary, and generally pretend they're not the worthless little creeps that they are.

The Cons are going about it the wrong way: if they had any courage, they would FORCE Ontario and Quebec farmers to be under the CWB. Within a month the CWB would not exist. Simple as that.

Forgive me, I am a really bad person, but I can't help it. I know, no need to lambaste me, I get it.

Every time I read NDP, my mind's eye flashes to N(S)D(A)P. I know they're not even close to that, but seriously, if I were around to help pick the name, I'd have maybe looked at something that didn't appear like it rose out of the ashes of the running street battles in the Weimar Republic.
