After 12 years of practicing in downtown Vancouver, I'd learned far more about homosexual sex practices than I wanted to know and was probably the most anti-homosexual that I've been in my life. Now that I'm away from that environment I've had a chance to ponder what it was that created these strong counter-transference emotions and have decided it was the single minded preoccupation with sexuality of many male homosexuals. Also, as a group, homosexuals feel that they are discriminated against despite living in the most homosexually friendly environment in the world (until the muslim population of the W. end of Vancouver rises high enough that queer bashing will be a common weekend pastime, just like in Amsterdam).

What constitutes sexual perversion varies from century to century and I was quite surprised to find common heterosexual practices described as "perversions" in Kraft-Ebbing's Psychopathia sexualis which I had the pleasure of reading in medical school. Even the fairly liberal prof of our human sexuality module believed in sexual perversions and his definition was sexual activities that either took up all of a persons time or which were dangerous.

Most people have balance in their lives and sex is a private function which may be an important one, but they aren't defined by their heterosexuality. Many homosexuals feel the need to shout out to the world "look at me, I'm queer" and scream discrimination when people object to them performing sex acts or exhibitionist displays in public.

What I found in my Vancouver practice was that I got along surprisingly well with lesbians who seemed to have the longest lasting sexual relationships and least amount of promiscuity. Male homosexuals come in two flavors; dominant males and effeminate males (or "top" and "bottom" as they advertise themselves in personal columns). I had no problems getting along well with the masculine homosexuals save for our differences in political views. The effeminate homosexuals were the most likely to result in intensely negative counter-transference emotions in me and I wouldn't take them on as patients although a few of them came with the practice I took over or I grudgingly accepted as new patients when one of my masculine homosexuals found a new boyfriend. The incidence of psychopathology in this group was huge and they seemed to be the most likely to blame all of their problems on "homophobia".

Homosexuals view themselves as a persecuted group and so tend to stick together with sexual preference being the only criterion for group membership with personal psychopathology counting for nothing. In the same ways that blacks in the US unthinkingly vote 90+% for BO, homosexuals reflexively support anything that is supposed to fight "homophobia". Most "gay bashings" are the result of lovers quarrels or a heterosexual male who picks up a transvestite in a bar and discovers the lower half of the body isn't what he expected based on the appearance of the upper half.

Male homosexuals also are several orders of magnitude more promiscuous than the average heterosexual male. While many heterosexual males would like to have as many sex partners as male homosexuals, female sexuality which is rarely that promiscuous, limits heterosexual male conquests. Male homosexuals are free of these female constraints and I've had homosexual patients who would have 1-2 new partners every night and wondered why they picked up exotic venereal diseases. To me a need to go out and find a new sex partner every night is pathologic but it's considered to be a normal part of the queer lifestyle.

The discrimination that exists is against heterosexuals. In Montreal some years back there was a bust of a "swingers" club where all of the participants were consenting adults. In Vancouver, I've had HIV+ homosexual patients regularly frequent bath-houses and engage in unprotected anal sex. To the best of my knowledge, not one of these bath-houses has ever been raided by the police. Young homosexuals in Vancouver don't worry about getting HIV as the treatment is free and it's just another chronic disease; besides being HIV+ means one collects welfare for life in the socialist utopia of BC.

If homosexuals want greater public acceptance, then they have to tone things down. Despite what most homosexuals believe most people couldn't care less about the details of other peoples sex lives unless they choose to flaunt them. I live in a fairly conservative city now and all of the homosexual patients I have keep their sexual preference to themselves. I have no difficulty figuring out their sexual orientation as there seems to be a subconscious routine I have that classifies a stranger's sexual preference correctly about 95% of the time.

There are fundamentalist religions that rant about the heterosexual activities I engage in as being sinful and I really couldn't care less. Homosexuals should get used to the fact that there are people who believe that their sexual practices are perversions and, in many cases they are based on the definition of a perversion as something that takes over a persons life. There are a lot of heterosexual perverts also and if a rich heterosexual male decides to try to rape a hotel maid he gets prosecuted and heterosexuals don't feel the least threatened by this arrest.

When homosexuals get over their discovery of sex and define themselves as people in which sex is just one part of their being, then they'll be accepted more readily. Once homosexuals realize that the incidence of psychopathology in their ranks is 2-3 times that of the heterosexual population and get those people to seek treatment instead of yelling "homophobia" they'll be more accepted. Once the "hate" laws prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual preference are repealed then people will be more favorably disposed to homosexuals. Homosexuals need to grow up and realize that there's a lot more to life than sexuality.

I have always thought that it will come back to haunt our society that we have deemed as "normalized" a lifestyle that is full of psychological aberrations. However, we were on that path anyway, I suppose you could say.

St. Paul called homosexual behavior unnatural in Romans. God created man and woman to live, be fruitful and multiply. Logically, Christian doctrine is contrary to homosexuality. Now, the degree to which various Christian denominations view and treat homosexual behavior varies widely -- from the bigoted Westboro Baptist types, to the reasonable doctrine of the Catholic Church, which says same sex attraction is wrong and is not to be encouraged or celebrated, but the persons living with it are to be loved.

On the subject of homosexuality, the one thing I remember vividly is a comment from a guy who I know who retired recently from the Detroit CSI unit. He claimed that the most gruesome and perverted homicides involving dismemberment, torture, excessive force to kill (stabbed 68 times / head cut off with private members stuck in mouth), were identified with an accuracy of 95%, as homosexual pay-back in queer lovers quarrels. He said it made his job easier as all he had to do is go down to 8 mile and rattle the cages at the queer bars. Thinking there is some sort of mental issue (God bless their soles) going on there, just saying.

The first living cultural thinker I ever loved was the great Camille Paglia. Among many other insights, she pointed out that, contrary to the general notion of gay men being effeminate, it's far more useful to view them as hyper-masculine. Anonymous sex, non-procreative s*x, multiple partners, dangerous and unprotected s*x (this being a feature, not a bug, no pun intended), s*x in public places (what woman would want to get it on in a toilet? - for male gays, a traditional venue) - this is an exaggeration of certain aspects of male sexuality. Lesbians, meanwhile, seem rarely to have sex, are entirely undaventurous... an exaggeration of female sexuality.
