Stephen Harper is a Psychopath/sociopath/xenophobic/Dictator....that's overwhelming tone of the 1,500 plus comments below the Globe Article Canadian foreign policy needs to be more independent of other countries.
No evidence for the charges provided, just comparisons to the dictators who rose to power in Italy/Germany/Spain. Even one assertion that Preston Manning was surrounded by "Nazi's" guards!. Believe it or not it gets even worse than that in the comment thread. I know, I know, hard to believe but see for yourself.
Don't expect any cogent arguments, but it is damn fascinating.
Update As you're reading the "Highest Score" comments vote thumbs down. It will drive them crazy when they see their revered comments went negative!
How about this one:
"With the iffy exception of #5, Harper meets every one of "The 14 Defining Characteristics Of Fascism" - by MacKenna
Dr. Lawrence Britt has examined the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia) and several Latin American regimes. Britt found 14 defining characteristics common to each:
1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism
2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights (we saw this at the G20, harper's support for GW Bush's invasion of iraq, torture of Afhan detainees)
3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause (all liberals everywhere are the enemy)
4. Supremacy of the Military - Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.
5. Rampant Sexism (He gets a partial pass but only partial because he wants to control women's biology)
6. Controlled Mass Media (Harper has the media squarely in his pocket because all corporations back him)
7. Obsession with National Security
8. Religion and Government are Intertwined
9. Corporate Power is Protected
10. Labor Power is Suppressed
11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts (Harper is the ultimate elitist. He demonizes all intellectuals.)
12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment (9 billion for prisons. Hello?)
13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption (Harper was dubbed the King of Patronage in 2009 and misappropriated funds to serve himself)
14. Fraudulent Elections (Canada's federal court ruled the Tories committed election fraud in 2006, see the in-out scheme)

The leftists mention only "the dictators who rose to power in Italy/Germany/Spain."
That's easy: Duce Mussolini, Herr Adolf, and Ole! Franco. All offspring of socialism.
They don't mention Red Koba Stalin, the Georgian criminal/communist, another son of socialism?
Funny that.
Look at that; all of them offspring/progeny of the left.
I'm OK with exploding leftard grey matter...about time.
Just a bunch of malcontents who want a election 'do over' because their team got tossed to the curb by the electorate.
Comparisons to Adolf Hitler, won't get them anywhere...sour grapes like Ms De Pape.
Predigested De Pape griping won't help their precious world view. Perhaps they should spend their time more profitably...read more and yap less. Then they might come up with something more intelligent to say.
Cheers

I would note that I'm 'shocked' by the comments, but I fear someone would accuse me of sarcasm.
Derek
more than likely.
I've been watching the comments at the G&M descend into lunacy for a couple of years now. It wasn't always that bad, but it seems that there is a hard core of leftie lunatics who like to pretend that they represent some sort of general public and feed back upon each other's increasingly more deranged comments.
Most of the sensible commenters that used to hang out there have long since left, or like myself (am I sensible?) avoid the political articles because there's no point try to discuss anything with these people.
It seems certain that there are many users with multiple usernames based on the uniformity of their phrases and attack patterns. It's sad, really, that the Globe lets this circus go on. It's a discredit to the newspaper.
Those comments contain some of the worst drivel I have ever read! Well, I replied to a few. I really think that libel charges should be brought against some of them.
Anyway, it isn't going to get any better. I just hope that there are fewer than 2000 of the morons.
Actually, this article at Pajamas Media seems very apropos. The comments at G&M fulfill pretty much every criteria for crazy the article lists.
http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/tips-for-not-appearing-crazy-on-the-internet/?singlepage=true
Instead of new prisons we need to increase the number of insane asylums to protect these citizens from the psychosis that has warped their minds.
CBC has an article on the speech up on their politics page. The comments are'nt as vulgar, likely because it is moderated.
However, they are mostly Harper haters,as expected. No real thought behind most, just the same old "Harper's a dictator" crap.

John Lewis @ 10:27,
I responded to a few also. It's hard not to resist.
One fellow there that goes by the name of 'Tudor' is complaining that PM Harper is turning Canada into the laughingstock of the world. He goes on about PMSH making Prince Charles a honourary admiral, and the only thing that Chuck has ever done is knock up the queen and fathered a couple of bad seeds.
I knew about Camilla, but never suspected that.
Yes, nearly all of the comments here are drivel. But there's a lesson here as well. All too many of the posters on this blog commented not that long ago that they weren't voting Tory because Harper was too soft, not conservative enough, etc.
Understand clearly. If conservatives don't vote, THESE are the people who elect governments. So tell me clearly, do you want to live in the country we have now, or in the chaotic mess that these morons would create? Because that's the only choice on offer.
Just wondering if anyone still doubts that this is a mental disorder?
Or organic crazy...
Wow, that 14 point comment by MacKenna is something! That guy has really sipped the hard left Kool-Aid. The finale, number 14, really had me choking on my Coke! Wasn't it the Liberal Party who practically invented election fraud in Canada, raising it to an art form in Quebec? Then to take some petty cr*p the Conservatives did and trying to make it the Mother-of-all-Political-Scandals is the lie, like a rubber band stretched too far, past the snapping point. Somebody please get MacKenna back on his meds!
cgh - quite right.
Not letting our beautiful country fall into the hands of people like those commenters is "why we fight".
I scrolled through as many comments as I could before having to close the window in shame for these Canadians-in-name-only. There's a comment from a guy sincerely apologizing to a leftie-girl for previous comments and even that has a high negative score (at least she accepted the apology).
I believe it's called "group-think" when too many people with similar opinions spiral into lunacy.
It is from such leftist group think sewers that evil people come
upon those easily manipulated into becoming assassins.
.
The convention was great BTW as the previous two were. (30c Ottawa was much more pleasant than -12 Winnipeg that last time)
The policy cupboard was quite bare as you might expect in light of the constant election-readiness of minority government sapping away the energy for other less urgent issues like new policy initiatives.
Expect a whole slew of new ones at the next convention two years from now as the party reloads for the 2015 election.
I'm always amazed at how great the delegates are - such brilliant minds and excellent, reasoned, polite debate both at the mics and in the hospitality suites if anyone reading this is keen, getting involved in the CPC and working towards getting elected as a voting delegate is a very worthwhile and gratifying thing.
It was a great coue of days of political sausage making - too bad the workshop policy debates (on Friday) weren't televised - they are always the more lively and broad-ranging ones.
Spellbinding stuff over there.
One fellow appropriately named Toolman appeals:
"Judge not that ye not be judged".'
In the next breath he states "Harper is megalomaniacal, fascistic, and a dictator in waiting".
Kurt Austin is hilarious, tweaking the hell out of them by posting multiple long prayers to God. He's praying for Harper's health, that he's able to persevere in converting Canada into a religious state.
They're going nuts hahaha.
WallyJ180 and DrDCalgary have some priceless comments.
Bravo SDA. I suspect they haven't experienced any opposition (or clear thinking) for some time over there. They're completely flummoxed.
cgh @ 11:19 PM
Great comment. I for one am going to be spending a bit more time over there to take the measure these threats to our freedom.
Whenever I read the hateful comments about Harper by the Left, all I hear is an immature little brat screaming and crying,"WE LOST! WAHAHAHAHAHA!"
I have to agree with the comment above, we need more mental health facilities to house these lunatics.
Glad you called it liberal mind, not liberal brain. Scientists have searched for the liberal brain for years but have been unable to find one.
For decades the right has been accused of being hateful, racists bigots and yet-yet when you read the comments from the leftards you are left breathless because of the hatred they project towards us. If they didn't have the media sewn up the public would be gobbed smacked at how utterly hateful the leftards really are.
Pretty strong evidence that most things creeping off Campus into a career of real politik, and calling themselves "liberal" are just one form or another of cultural Marxists with a big dollup of Anarcho-nihilism tossed in for added ideological delusion.
Radicals all. Someone tell them that their ideology is as dead and irrelevant as it's 19th century Bolshevik patriarchs.
From thepeoplescube.com:
In today's evolutionary struggle we liberals are the fittest species. Conservatives are so easy - accuse them of committing a sin and they resign and disappear from public sight forever. We in the progressive community are much smarter - we don't believe in sin. It makes us invulnerable to criticism. That's why we're taking over this stupid country. However crazy, irresponsible, and outright criminal our behavior is, you can't call us sinful because that would be forcing your values on us. You can't call us hypocrites because we never said we were perfect. You can't say we've lost shame because we can't lose what we don't have. Human imperfection is our standard, our goal, or breeding ground, our primordial soup if you will. We stand for nothing and have no values except those that may hypothetically exist in a distant socialist utopia that may or may not happen.
Reading the comments reminded me, there's quite a few unemployed liberals with nothing much to do, other than cruise websites and post vitriol.
The Globe comments sections have been full of left wing nutbars for quite a while. It looks like an organized campaign. Oddly enough, the Toronto Star comments by comparison are a model of balance and restraint.
Ah,reading the G&M comments is refreshing - only in as far as viewing the absolute frenzy they are in.
It does explain the Liberal "mindless" though and their objects of hatred. SDA, Levant and of course Harper are right up there.
I suppose protests, strikes and SLAPP suits will soon be tools of choice in their now empty toolbelt.
A picture of them leaving their cushy offices (forever hopefully) on the Hill would be priceless.
Well said, set you free.
As to the attack on Preston Manning: yes, indeed, it's true that under Trudeau, CSIS helped organize and fund a neo-Nazi group, and under Mulroney, CSIS used its control over the group to pay its members to go and stand next to Preston Manning and be photographed. He of course had no idea who they were, at least not until the government had the photos published in the press in a blaze of scandal.
So, be proud, Canada. Your tax dollars really worked!
Thanks, Jema.
But I can't take credit for the brilliance. That was a direct copy-and-paste from thepeoplescube.com
I like that website because it's run by a guy who was a former propoganda artist in the Soviet Union. He's been there, done that and he totally understands the ‘progressive' mind, or whatever it is they're calling themselves now.
I have always found that the tolerant left...are whackjobs.
Ownshook: "I have always found that the tolerant left...are whackjobs."
Me too—and that even includes my lefty, NDP and Liberal friends, who contradict themselves left, left, and never centre! No matter how intelligent they are, they truly seem incapable of recognizing their contradictions: they hold two altogether opposing ideas in their heads at the very same time. Amazing—and frustrating, as well as dangerous to democracy!
Keep plugging away at the G&M site, the hateful bigots of the Left are getting hit hard.
