As we get closer to Canada's 144th Birthday, it's most apropos to feel a bit more patriotic about our great nation. With that in mind, some fitting music can be heard here and here and here.

An outstanding explanation: why Israel can't withdraw to its 1949 Armistice Lines.
I had a brief exchange with Caroline Glick a while back. In it, I suggested that the frequent use of the term "1967 borders" was confusing (pre or post 6-day war?). I suggested we should use the term "1949 armistice lines" to which she agreed.
The header on the YouTube clip refers to "borders". But the 1949 lines weren't borders -- weren't recognized by anyone as borders.
Thanks Robert, matt's video brought back a lot of great memories.

Being a western Canadian; this is the song that speaks to my Canadian heart:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwbcwHCVEM4.
I also like 'The Maple Leaf Forever', played on the bagpipes but my true love is 'Scotland The Brave' - that is the song that sends a thrill up the spine of of a Celt. 'God Bless America' is also a wonderful song, IMO. 'Oh Canada' has some good lines in the original version as long as it is is not sung in a drawn out bellow (like a sick calf). When it is broken up into two languages it is no longer meaningful, IMO.
Well, if we are going to list songs that celebrate our great country then we have to look to Stan Rogers!
I can think of no one that celebrated Canada more, and more importantly her people in his music.

There are a number of good reasons for the Canadian Government to withdraw funding from Planned Parenthood, but the most compelling one is that if there policies were successful, there'd be no need to continue funding them.
They've had almost 40 years to decrease the number of teen pregnancies and abortions (well, that's what they claim is their mandate) and up to this point, they've failed miserably.
It's pretty clear to me that they're simply a feminist advocacy group for sex-for-teens and unlimited access to abortion. They run abortion clinics, don't they?

It already is... 351(2) of the criminal code states:
(2) Every one who, with intent to commit an indictable offence, has his face masked or coloured or is otherwise disguised is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years.
and the last time I checked, rioting, burning vehicles and looting stores are still indictable offences (provided of course there is any intention of ever charging anyone for that sort fo thing in BC)...but then again, we don't expect the sort of chiefs of police that are appointed by moonbats to know the law, do we ?

remember...we are 'infidels' and by extension of this fatwa cannot employ muslims, only be employed by them...remember that when we become an emirate after each burqa gets to vote 50 times without challenge by the oblivious moonbats at Elections 'Canada'.

Shaykh Salih al-Fawzan, a member of the Saudi Council of Senior Scholars, explains in this short fatwa that any Muslim who refuses to pray has become an infidel, and therefore must be killed. This fatwa was originally published in audio format on al-Fawzan's website some time ago, but was recently published in a video on YouTube, and was later picked up by Arabic-language news sites, such as al-Arabiya.The subtitled video is above, transcript is below:
This questioner says, “Your Eminence,” he says, “I have a colleague at work who doesn’t pray. I admonished him, but he didn’t respond. I informed the one in authority over us, and told him, ‘He is afraid of being transferred. Admonish him to pray, and threaten to transfer him.’ My colleague then became angry with me. Here’s my question: Is what I did wrong? What is my duty in this situation?”
He who does not pray is not a Muslim, owing to the saying of Muhammad (PBUH): “(The difference) between worship (of Allah), and infidelity and polytheism, is failing to pray.” He also said (PBUH): “The covenant that is between us and them is prayer, and whoever neglects this has become an infidel.” There are numerous evidences in the Qur’an and Sunnah for the fact that he who fails to pray is an infidel. It is not enough for this man to be transferred, but he must be fired from the job. And if he doesn’t repent to Allah and keep his prayers, then he must be killed. He must be called on to repent, but if he doesn’t repent, then he is killed.
What you have done with him was your duty, from the counsel and admonition of Allah. If he does not accept (the admonition), and insists on abstaining from praying, then he must be killed. It is not enough for him to be transferred from his job, for merely employing him is wrong. It is not permissible for an infidel to be in charge of the doings of Muslims, because he will be an example to others.

Harvard: July 4th Parades Are Right-Wing
By Paul Bedard
Democratic political candidates can skip this weekend's July 4th parades. A new Harvard University study finds that July 4th parades energize only Republicans, turn kids into Republicans, and help to boost the GOP turnout of adults on Election Day.
"Fourth of July celebrations in the United States shape the nation's political landscape by forming beliefs and increasing participation, primarily in favor of the Republican Party," said the report from Harvard.
"The political right has been more successful in appropriating American patriotism and its symbols during the 20th century. Survey evidence also confirms that Republicans consider themselves more patriotic than Democrats. According to this interpretation, there is a political congruence between the patriotism promoted on Fourth of July and the values associated with the Republican party. Fourth of July celebrations in Republican dominated counties may thus be more politically biased events that socialize children into Republicans," write Harvard Kennedy School Assistant Professor David Yanagizawa-Drott and Bocconi University Assistant Professor Andreas Madestam. [Enjoy political cartoons about President Obama.]
Their findings also suggest that Democrats gain nothing from July 4th parades, likely a shocking result for all the Democratic politicians who march in them.
"There is no evidence of an increased likelihood of identifying as a Democrat, indicating that Fourth of July shifts preferences to the right rather than increasing political polarization," the two wrote.
The three key findings of those attending July 4th celebrations:
* When done before the age of 18, it increases the likelihood of a youth identifying as a Republican by at least 2 percent.
* It raises the likelihood that parade watchers will vote for a Republican candidate by 4 percent.
* It boosts the likelihood a reveler will vote by about 1 percent and increases the chances they'll make a political contribution by 3 percent.
What's more, the impact isn't fleeting. "Surprisingly, the estimates show that the impact on political preferences is permanent, with no evidence of the effects depreciating as individuals become older,"said the Harvard report.
Finally, the report suggests that if people are looking for a super-patriotic July 4th, though should head to Republican towns. "Republican adults celebrate Fourth of July more intensively in the first place."

"The Seven Second Solution
June 30th, 2011 - 11:14 am
Mark Halperin’s indefinite suspension by MSNBC for calling President Obama a “dick” on the air for his behavior during the budget negotiations is a study in contrasts. The contrast between the consequences to the media of calling Michelle Bachmann a “flake” to her face and the contrast between a supposed technical competence and their inability to get their signals straight."

I sincerely hope the SCOC is hearing this appeal solely to make it perfectly clear that terrorists are not welcome here...but I highly doubt it...the appeal grounds cited by the terrorist's lawyers, to wit...
"...by including violence carried out for political or religious reasons the definition of terrorist activity infringes on freedom of religion and freedom of expression..."
are the sort of interpretation a liebral SC justice drools over...and we still have far too many of them for anyone's comfort...except terrorists.
OTTAWA - Canada's top court ruled Thursday it will hear Momin Khawaja's appeal of his terrorism convictions.
The former Ottawa software developer - the first person ever charged under Canada's anti-terror laws - was convicted in 2006 of seven terrorism-related charges for his involvement with a U.K.-based group, although a judge concluded there wasn't enough proof that he knew they planned to bomb a string of London targets.
He was sentenced to 10 years, but the Crown appealed. Last year, the Ontario Court of Appeals turned that into a life sentence.
The three-judge panel sided with the Crown, concluding Ottawa Judge Douglas Rutherford's sentence "fails to reflect the enormity of his crimes and the horrific nature of the crime of terrorism himself."
"The appellant was an active member of a terrorist group whose singular goal was to eradicate western culture and civilization and establish Islamic dominance wherever possible," the judges wrote.
The family say they won't respond to the court's decision.
"We've been victimized for eight years," said Qasim Khawaja, Momin's brother. "We've lost all our energy to respond."
Instead, they're leaving that to lawyer Lawrence Greenspon.
Khawaja's case will be heard alongside two other challenges to Canada's anti-terror laws. Suresh Sriskandarajah and Piratheepan Nadarajah are both facing charges of terrorist activity in the United States and are fighting extradition.
They are accused of attempting to purchase a shipment of AK-47 military rifles for the Tamil Tigers terrorist group.
The two men, like Khawaja claim that the term "terrorist activity" in the criminal code is "unconstitutionally overboard" and that the law contravenes section 7 of the Charter of Rights which guarantees "life, liberty and security of the person."
The trio also claim that by including violence carried out for political or religious reasons the definition of terrorist activity infringes on freedom of religion and freedom of expression.
I see that macd has beat me to the punch, re Mark Halperin of Time magazine calling Obama a “d*ck” on air, thinking his mic was off. Even though he apologized profusely, as did “Morning Joe” hosts, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, Halperin was suspended anyway.

"Fake photo fallout: Chinese officials embrace social media to explain mixup"
"One of the worst doctored photographs in Internet history? That's the emerging verdict on a clumsily altered photo of bureacrats in the sleepy county of Huili, in southwest China's Sichuan province. In an ill-fated PR stunt, the trio of area government officials are shown appearing to float over the surface of a road, casting nary a shadow in a bid to promote a local road construction project.
"The saga began on Monday when Huili's website published a picture showing, according to the accompanying story, three local officials inspecting a newly completed road construction project this month," the Guardian's Peter Walker reports."
