One of Canada's less well known musical gems is Stratford, Ontario based Loreena McKennitt. Here she is performing The Lady of Shalott, which is based on a Lord Alfred Tennyson poem of the same name

Nice music.

This is interesting: the CRTC is asking your opinion on the Israel-hating CBC:

http://www.cbc-consultation.ca/welcome

The comments are hilarious!

How can the CBC best deliver content to all Canadians?

Annoyed Taxpayer:

"It should be shut down.

And based on the slant of these questions, perhaps the CRTC should be next."

"Shut it down and make it a donation funded entity like PBS. If the people of Canada actually value it they will donate to it, no?

I think we all know what would happen.
But then that is democracy in action, isn't it?
Wouldn't allowing Canadians to decide whether to fund it themselves be the ultimate way of seeing what Canadians think of it?"

Hilarious!

http://www.cbc-consultation.ca/does-the-cbc-fill-your-need-for-reliable-and-authoritative-news-and-information/

"Does the CBC fill your need for reliable and authoritative news and information?"

"No. It is the last news source I check. It is unreliable, biased, and poorly presented. There are other Canadian broadcasters that do a far more balanced and better job."

"CBC`s news is the most biased news on the airwaves. Even without that bias a government owned radio network has no place in the market place ever."

"Haven't watched CBC TV in years...literally years, probably 20. Gave up on CBC Radio 1 when I got tired it its eternal left-leaning; gave up on CBC Radio 2 when it screwed up its programming a few years ago. CBC plays no part at all in my life except, I suppose, to consume some of my tax dollars."

I just finished watching the repeat of Friday's 'The Source' with guest host, Mark Bonokoski. His opening monologue, wearing red to honour our troops was moving.

They also kept playing clips of The Trews, Highway of Heroes.

Juxtapose what these youth do compared to Depape or the kids in Vancouver and I can't help but wonder.

At least if you watch both of these clips, you can forget about the latter for a while.

Have McKennit on cd singing Sir Alfred Noyes' The Highwayman, one of my favourites as a young man. she does a haunting version of both.

Well said Derek!

Larben, I not much of a musical expert but do you think there's a strong similarity in melody between The Lady of Shalott and The Highwayman?

"The Continuing Present

James A. Johnson (born December 24, 1943) is a United States Democratic Party political figure. He was the campaign manager for Walter Mondale’s failed 1984 presidential bid and chaired the vice presidential selection committee for the presidential campaign of John Kerry. He was involved in the vice-presidential selection process for the 2008 Democratic presidential nominee, Senator Barack Obama.

He was also the Chairman and CEO of Fannie Mae. Johnson is in the news again because of Gretchen Morgenson and Joshua Rosner’s book, Reckless Endangerment. An excerpt from her book says:

“When we boost the number of homeowners in our country,” Clinton said in a 1995 speech, “we strengthen our economy, create jobs, build up the middle class, and build better citizens.”"

"Democrats, watch out.

The Republican Party and especially its Tea Party wing have just acquired a new weapon of mass destruction — and it has nothing to do with any of Congressman Wiener’s rogue body parts. If they deploy this weapon effectively in the next election cycle — a big if — then they have the biggest opportunity to move the country rightward since Ronald Reagan took the oath of office back in 1981.

The Tea Party WMD stockpile is currently stored in book form: Reckless Endangerment: How Outsized Ambition, Greed, and Corruption Led to Economic Armageddon. By Gretchen Morgenson, one of America’s best business journalists who is currently at The New York Times, and noted financial analyst Joshua Rosner, Reckless Endangerment gives the best available account of how the growing chaos in the mortgage and personal finance markets and the rampant bundling of dubious loans into exotically toxic securities plunged the world, and millions of American families, into the gravest financial crisis since World War Two. It is gripping reading as well, and its explanations are clear enough that readers without any background in finance will have no trouble following the plot. The villains? An unholy alliance between Wall Street, the Democratic establishment, community organizing groups like ACORN and La Raza, and politicians like Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi and Henry Cisneros. (Frank got a cushy job for a lover, Pelosi got a job and layoff protection for a son, Cisneros apparently got a license to mint money bilking Mexican-Americans of their life savings in cheesy housing developments.)"

"In the new China, everything is big. Drive south on the wide highway from Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province, and for hours you will see field after field of vegetables with farmers stooped over crops, and pass trucks, motorized tricycles and bikes overflowing with fresh cabbages, onions and greens. This farmland outside Kunming is one of dozens of vast agricultural areas in the country that grow about half of all the world’s vegetables, an increasing number of which are now certified organic. Over the past 10 years, China has converted millions of hectares to organic agriculture—between 2005 and 2006, the amount of organically managed land went up more than tenfold. Today, China has more organic land than any other country, positioning it to be the world’s largest organic producer."

Socialists have caved; thrown in the towel.

Blasted by reality, the socialists surrender their euro; and, with it, their visions/dreams.

What is their "Plan B"?

Nationalism and blood have survived the pan-socialist commissars.

...-

"Time for Plan B"

"How the Euro Became Europe's Greatest Threat"

"The euro is becoming an ever greater threat to Europe's common future. The currency union chains together economies that are simply incompatible. Politicians approve one bailout package after the other and, in doing so, have set down a dangerous path that could burden Europeans for generations to come and set the EU back by decades."

"In the past 14 months, politicians in the euro-zone nations have adopted one bailout package after the next, convening for hectic summit meetings, wrangling over lazy compromises and building up risks of gigantic dimensions.

For just as long, they have been avoiding an important conclusion, namely that things cannot continue this way. The old euro no longer exists in its intended form, and the European Monetary Union isn't working. We need a Plan B."

"Finland is a country that is often held up as a successful model for other European countries, but the success of the right-wing populist "True Finns," who captured 20 percent of the vote in April's parliamentary elections, came as a wakeup call to the political establishment in Brussels. As the skeptics gain ground throughout the EU, anti-European sentiments are growing in even the core countries of the union, like France and Germany."
