A true musical prodigy in the past 50 years who never reached the same heights of stardom as his peers was Stephen Lawrence "Steve" Winwood. Starting his professional music career at just 15 years old, he co-wrote Gimme Some Lovin' and I'm a Man. In the late 1960's he was a key member of both Traffic and Blind Faith. In 1977 he embarked on a solo career that included such pop hits as Valerie, Higher Love, and my personal favourite, While You See a Chance. Throughout it all, Winwood has stayed true to the music and not so concerned about being a celebrity.
The comments are open, as always, for your insightful, interesting, & even quirky Reader Tips.

While listening to "While You See a Chance" from Stevie's "Arc of a Diver" ... note that he's the only performer on that album.
He did it all...
another favorite written by him, first performed in "Blind Faith" with Eric & some others, I think they had a 25 year separation before joining on stage for this gem:

Baba Wawa, dirty old woman (who is famous why?): Weiner's weiner was on Viagra or something! Cialis, maybe. Anyway, stop pickin' on the guy. (BTW, Baba knows Huma, she's such a doll. And Billary - lovely couple. Just in case you were worried she doesn't go to the right parties or something.)

Then again they do seem to be irony deficient.

Yes, they do look rather amoebic.
They shoulda known that being married by Wild Bill was the kiss of death.

Funny - I have believed for some time now that CP has been delivering only 2 days a week.
I'll take that improvement.

It's amazing to me how Far Left Zealots can pretend to wrap themselves in the Cloak of Righteousness. In truth, all they're doing is attempting to justify their Utter Narcissism (and Hatred of Others) under the moniker of Saving the World.
Thinking back a few years, a fella' named Obama attempted to do this. It worked for awhile with some but no longer with most.

Amanda Marcotte paints Anthony Weiner as a victim.
Can someone please explain to me why many women on the Left consistently defend the dreadful actions of Men on the Left towards women?
I realize that some women have convinced themselves that all men are deceitful pigs and men in power even more so, but when I look around at my set of male friends (in all parts of the socio-economic strata) I think such a generalization is patently false as asserting that all women are angels.
Has our society descended to a point where it is now improper and unacceptable to judge anyone for anything?! The fact that Anthony Weiner is still employed as a Congressman leads me to conclude so.

Short answer - b@tsh*t crazy. Might as well ask why feminists are so hot for that vibrant Muslim "multiculturalism".
Brigette What's-her-face, in the Star (linked by syncrodox @ 12:34 a.m.): "I think those who reacted with excitement realize that politics should not be left to the politicians, and that democracy is not just about marking a ballot every few years. It is about ensuring, with daily engagement and resistance, that the vision we have for our society is reflected in the decision-making of our government."
See, in what is known as a "representative democracy", democracy is about marking a ballot every few years. That's how a government is elected, and yes, politics is supposed to be left to the politicians. People can express their opinions and can protest on occasion, but anyone who is involved in "daily engagement and resistance" is most likely a professional malcontent (and part of a small minority at that) who needs to get a life. In fact, anyone who equates democracy with "resistance" in this manner is totalitarian by nature, not democratic.
I have high hopes for the Harper government. These include (among other things) the elimination of the Wheat Board monopoly over western grains, the elimination of s.13 of the Canadian Human Rights Act that is oppressive toward freedom of speech, and the elimination of the restrictions on third-party spending during an election campaign - the issue that PM Harper took to the Supreme Court of Canada. The court blotted its copybook by refusing to do the right thing, but Harper can have the last laugh. If he doesn't repeal the election gag law, it would not be unfair to call him the biggest hypocrite in the history of Canada.
This is the vision I have for my society, and I hope it is reflected in the decision-making by my government.

A snippet:
"[DePape] is said to have had several job offers, doubtless from bodies largely funded by Canadian taxpayers. For those of us in what remains of the private sector, I can think of few people I’d be less likely to hire than a pampered beneficiary of a leisurely navel-gazing pseudo-education too stupid and self-absorbed at the age of 21 to be able to tell the difference between Mubarak's Cairo and Harper's Ottawa."
And then he concludes with: "The west is facing not an Arab spring but a long bleak winter of post-prosperity discontent. I don’t think the likes of Brigette DePape will adapt very well – and I would wager their disenchantment with responsible government will grow. As for the Muslim Brotherhood so for stunted morons like Miss DePape: The democratic process is legitimate only if you vote for the approved side."
Back to Steve Winwood (here's a post about him with only one comment ABOUT him, which tells you just how overlooked he is).
I loved Traffic's 'Low Spark Of High-Heeled Boys', a true classic.
One album not mentioned I absolutely love, 'When the Eagle Flies'.

Winwood is a true musician not locked into fads. His music, of any time period, is still enjoyable.
"A true musical prodigy in the past 50 years"
True enough, thanks for this. I'm still amazed by his work at fifteen - a lot of ancient "bluesmen" couldn't sound like that. And then he explored many different avenues over his musical life.
DePape's Crap:
" ... It is a country of people burning with desire for change."
Yeah. Right. That's why all of her ilk came out in droves to defeat the Evil Harper and His Nefarious Conservatives in our election on May 2nd.
Right?
Not even close. Honey, the horse is well out of the barn and you're trying to close the door and whip up the lazy ones in their stalls. Brilliant move.
The change for which Canadians are "burning with desire" -- who wrote this garbage: a Harlequin ghost writer? -- has happened. It's called a strong, stable, majority Conservative Government. Suck it up, Ms DePape. Your team lost.
As for DePape's comment, "I felt I had a responsibility to use my position to oppose a government whose values go against the majority of Canadians."
What drivel. Her position? What she had was a privilege that many other university students would have given their eye teeth for. She's abused this privilege and needs to be disciplined, not just fired. That's too easy and doesn't acknowledge the gravity of her promiscuous antics in the Senate Chamber.

Massive winds break hydro poles, trap cars, flip tractor trailer

A massive electrical storm that swept through the Municipality of Kincardine late Tuesday night, June 8, left a path of destruction across Bruce Township.
South Bruce OPP Provincial Constable Darryl Campbell said at the site at about 12:30 a.m. a number of cars, a camper trailer, and three motorcycles were trapped in the heavy rains and lightning that came about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Looks like Anthony Weiner's wife is pregnant. Rumour has it that Hillary Clinton asked, "Is it mine?"
Here's a VERY interesting statistical chart - and refutes LePage's and others on the left assertion that '60% of Canadians didn't vote for Harper (CPC).
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/demographic-breakdown-of-voters-in-the-2011-federal-election/article2048570/?from=2053183
Notice the data:
First, are the statistics by seat ratio (I think that's what it means), with the CPC getting 39.6%, the NDP 30.6, Liberals 18.9, Bloc 6 and Greens 3.9.
Second - the ratio of the actual votes (not seat winners)..and this is a very different outline. This count would determine the federal subsidy of $2.00 per vote given to the political parties..which Harper has just done away with. The Liberals and Bloc relied heavily on these funds. But take a look:
CPC vote count: 56.1%.
NDP: 32.5
Liberals: 9.9
Bloc: 1.1
Greens: 0.4
Notice that this means that, in opposition to the DePape's and other ranters - that 56% of Canadians voted 'for Harper' while 44% voted for other parties.
I think this statistic, the REAL proportional numbers, ought to be flung at them..
You'll also notice the vote count breakdown by area. In the West 77.8 were CPC, with 16.9 NDP and 4.1 Liberal.
Ontario: 70.7 CPC, 19 NDP, 10.2 Liberal.
Even in the Atlantic: 42.5 for CPC, 22.3 for NDP and 35.2 for Liberals.
So- by vote, not seat percentages, the CPC came out in the majority. A real majority by vote.
So Depape writes an editorial in the TorStar. I can only imagine the dozens who are going to read it.
a different bob, dozens? you give the star far more credit then it deserves.
nv53 @ 2:18 am, great comment.
ET, thanks for those statistics. They put a different slant on the election than what we have been reading.
Depape's comment "I think those who reacted with excitement realize that politics should not be left to the politicians, and that democracy is not just about marking a ballot every few years. It is about ensuring, with daily engagement and resistance, that the vision we have for our society is reflected in the decision-making of our government" is an invitation to anarchy. This sounds more like anarcho-communism.
@ a different bob, actually the last time I looked at least 78 readers of DePape's article had commented and as much as I hate to admit it, I also read it. Something about her article sounds vaguely familiar in a historical sense.
The idealism, and naivete of youth, sounds just like a return to flower power and the 60s.
And sounds like the exact words used to justify a junta or overthrow, by violence, of a legitimate government.
Let's remember, democracy only works for the leftards when they get elected. At all other times, "democracy is broken"

To the list of : Gandhi,Mandela,Walesa,we can now add Brigette Depape.
"why many women on the Left consistently defend the dreadful actions of Men on the Left"
Robert, that's because while we "men on the right" are bible-thumping,knuckle-dragging,gun-totin' rednecks", men on the Left are "sensitive".
DMorris, actually I think that what really invigorates Women of the Left (at least the Far Left) is that *their* men strongly support abortion - anytime, anywhere. That seems to be THE hot button issue for these women. As long as a guy professes support for that then anything else he does is tolerable to them.
Am I too cynical?

Again, what's your point?
They have nothing to do with the action in Libya - and if the agenda of the Libyan action is not clear, is amorphous, isn't clearly outlined as 'regime change'...then, it's a waste of time and money. This problem is a different issue which you fail to address.
But then, you simply hate the CPC and capitalism and democrayc and that's the basis of all that you say.
