Because nobody knew how to build a socialist economy, Lenin explained, the Soviets must retreat into “state capitalism.” A similar retreat occurred in the People’s Republic of China after the failure of the Cultural Revolution."

macd @ 7:21, "Shoot the kulaks". Lenin's retreat was calculated in that the Bolsheviks allowed the middle peasants (kulaks) and small business to flourish for a while in order to bring recovery to the economy which the "war communism" and civil war had decimated. Their plan was that after the economy had recovered they continue their plan of socializing all aspects of the economy.

With Weiner's professional life on the verge of collapse, both he and his wife have turned to the Clintons -- for consolation, for help or just an ear that will listen. The congressman, who has embarked on an epic apology tour in the halls of Congress to try and convince colleagues he can keep his seat, reportedly called the former president to say he's sorry after he confessed to his indiscretions at a press conference Monday afternoon. It's not clear what transpired on the call.
We all know by now that Weiner and the Clintons go way back. After all, Bill Clinton did officiate his wedding.]

Instead of growing up in a culture of families staying together for better or worse, he grew up in the divorce culture where other arrangements can always be made (I don’t mean that he was a child of divorce; he was, but that is a secondary consideration). And instead of growing up in a culture where religion has to do with what you believe and how you behave, he grew up in a culture where, as Moment magazine put it ‘Weiner has always been assertive about his Jewishness’ but ‘doesn’t belong to a synagogue or consider himself close to a single rabbi.’
“Where faith and families are impotent symbols, they no longer have the power to create boundaries. And you end up with a situation where a self-proclaimed man who ‘loves his wife’ is sexting about Jewish sexual stereotypes with strangers. I concur and have said much the same thing here many times. Mlle DePape is just Anthony Weiner in another outfit: these shallow, arrogant, self-referential, entitled human beings are legion, and our secular, Me-Me-Me society is churning out more and more of them by the minute.
