As for blacks being excluded from positions of power? Well let's turn that issue around a bit. The black community accounts for about 2.5% of the country's population. Roughly the same percentage as the combined totals of Portuguese and and Spanish. How many Iberians do you see in positions of power in this country? Rather few. This isn't a product of bigotry. Most immigrant groups take time to climb up the socio-economic ladder. If those groups have persistently high drop out rates, like say Jamaicans and Portuguese [why do our media make so little of a group of whites doing poorly?], then it shouldn't be surprising that this process is slower than for other groups, like say the Poles...

I'm always fascinated how when it appears things are calm and reasonable, some one has to come along and pick at this scab before it has a chance to heal. Now it's a senator with obviously too much time on his hands. Hearing him profess in an interview with Oakley [640 toronto] that there are dozens and dozens and dozens of incidents occuring every day just seems to put his claims way over the top.
I work in construction, on jobsites with a much more diverse array of races than I suspect the senator does and frankly, I just don't see it.
Politicians get sucked into playing the race card because they think they are playing to a popular audience -- but Blacks generally don't support being patronized or paternalized by Whites constantly painting them as victims.
And policitians are also falling into the Marxian "permanent victim" trap -- which is based on class and race warfare, not tolerance and communication. The tactic is designed to provoke a backlash against racial minorities and create the conditions for the abovementioned warfare.

I've seen "affirmative action" in a corporate setting in practice and it's all bad. This "visible minority" Dept. Last time I accidently checked the CBC - ALL Canadians are now black. I haven't seen them cover a story that isn't black related, inside or outside of Canada.
