Kelly McParland has an interesting analysis this morning, comparing the G20 riots with what occurred yesterday in Vancouver.
Brian Hutchinson provided a very chilling first-hand account from last night.
Vancouver Province reporters: The disgrace that was.
Ian Mulgrew: Vancouver's Nightmare
Sunny Dhillon: Some heroes amongst the chaos
Photos of the fans moronic jerks can be seen here and here and here. Videos can be seen here.
Update: Charles Adler posted a link to this video. Severe warning but watch what happens to the man at the 3:00 mark when he tries to defend the windows of The Bay. Lord of the Flies in Vancouver :-(
Make no mistake, normal law-abiding Vancouverites feel only shame & disgrace this morning.

The fact that the Chapters bookstore was not looted tells you everything you need to know about Vancouver youth drug culture. These are the future burger flippers of BC. These are the future "victims of corporate greed". These are your future NDP politicians.
If this was all premeditated, why are there so many pictures with peoples faces fully exposed? If someone was going to commit a crime such as this, surely they would've had something to cover their faces.
If the cops yet again aren't going to do their jobs, private citizens should carry guns and shoot these idiots.
New York is under better control all the time.
Vancouver is an embarrassment to Canada.
allan - are you supporting this mayhem? some are seen wearing black balacalavas. pre-meditated indeed.
waiting for a statement from Happy Ejack Layton, I think this would be mostly NDP ridings.or hot cross Hedy Fry's? why even now there
are burning prius on the streets of vancouver.
Thanks for staying with this Robert, you must feel like a one armed paper-hanger, keep up the good work, this will be an on-going story for a long time, there will be a lot more coming out about the whole affair over the next few weeks. We live in interesting and, desperate times, I think.
The team sucked and now a lot of their fans have jumped on the suckwagon. Shame. However, these morons probably would have done exactly the same thing win or lose.
Well said, Mississauga Matt.
A couple of bullets into a couple of these "kids" would probably give pause to the rest of them, don't ya think?
Of course, in our "justice" system, the only ones arrested would be the ones protecting their home, business, car, etc.
Things fall apart,
The center cannot hold,
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world.
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
I thought this was funny:
Vancouver Riot - Flash Bang to the Nuts
I have a two-word solution.
Armed.
Shopkeepers.
Feel bad for you guys, Robert. It's one thing to lose the Cup. It's another to lose credibility as a city and to soil the excellent season by the Canucks.
I hope there aren't too many arrests...the NDP are holding a convention in Vancouver this weekend and it would be tragic if most of the local delegates were unable to attend due to incarceration.

Riot in public + Everyone has a smart phone + Facebook = Fail
The media should ignore the story of rioting not play it up. The hooligans who rioted are revelling in the attention. They do not care about criminal charges or other repercussions as a result of their actions. And I do blame major media for hyping the Vancouver/Canada versus the big, bad USA Bruins for fomenting the riots. When Lloyd and Wendy are reading first or second stories about the Stanley Cup some of us have loose screws.
Vancouver's very own "Night of Broken Glass and Burning Cars"!
Simpletons and thugs one and all...
This is generally recognized as the lack of a moral compass, ie individuals without an internalized set of boundaries. But then people without a conscience don't even know they are disgracing themselves.
They just exchanged the Brownshirts for the Canucks jersey. Nice! sarc/ off
Liquored up and full of stupidity, false bravado and Molotov cocktails...oooh,oooh showing up 'the MAN'.
What these reprobates need is a good ass whipping and about 3000 hours of community work doing clean up and polishing the sidewalks with toothbrushes.
Cheers

Is there any way that Vancouver's NHL franchise could be suspended for a year? That might teach them a lesson.
I understand where you're coming from, Pedro, but respectfully don't agree. To ignore it would be akin to ignoring the rampant hatred towards Americans that many Canadians express on a regular basis: maybe not you, certainly not me, but I hear it ALL the time.
Vancouverites, perhaps more than any other Canadians, have long expressed an air of superiority & smugness. That facade was pulled off last night and now we're getting our comeuppance.
P.S. I have to head downtown this afternoon. I hummed & hawed about whether to take photos of the aftermath. I decided I will though. If people are interested, I can post a link to them.
>>the rampant hatred towards Americans that many Canadians express on a regular basis
Both teams have a large percentage of Canadian players on the roster. I don't know how this riot can be blamed on rampant hatred towards Americans. It was one Canadian team based in an American city playing against another Canadian team based in a Canadian city. There is a disconnect in logic at play here.
BC solicitor general Shirley Bond said they had a plan...mmmm...what would that have been Shirley? You would think that as a result of 94 riot they would have had a high level contingency plan in the event of a Vancouver loss. Rioters looted and destroyed public and private property with impunity as Vancouver police stood and watched. To think this wasn't going to happen was not only naive but negligent on the part of Shirley Bond, Gregor Robertson and the Vancouver police Department. Hell, my buddies and I predicted this over two weeks ago. In situations like this there should be a provision to instate Marshall law that would protect peace officers from victim litigation due to injury from the use of force.
Vancouverites and Torontonians have that smugness.
now they both can claim riots on the their log books.
still no word from Jack or Hedy. funny thing.usually they are in the thick of a photo-op.
Who are these people? Thousands, thousands, thousands of them. Laughing. Delighted with the destruction. And these were not just the sort of young men that I first witnessed goading others on, encouraging the violence. These were older people too, middle aged men and women, their eyes opened wide with amazement. They were giggling. Enjoying it.
I found that paragraph interesting. Every society has poorly socialized morons like those who initiated the chaos, but what accounts for the apparent enjoyment experienced by other, better assimilated members of the middle class? I suspect many in the supportive audience endorse, at least outwardly, "human rights commissions", prohibitions against "hate speech", and Canadian society's constant pressure to be "nice" and to show "understanding" in response to antisocial behavior. I wonder, though, if under that apparent passivity lurks a suppressed fury that enjoys, at least vicariously, the casting off of a suffocating social restraint.
"Is there any way that Vancouver's NHL franchise could be suspended for a year? That might teach them a lesson."
In light of the _owner_'s disgraceful conduct after the game, how about getting rid of the franchise completely? Two riots after two final losses: do we really need a third?

Love it Larben, it's a keeper!
the final solution is now up the courts.
when the rioters are convicted they should face fines and jail time.
No mamby-pamby slap on the wrist.
Also check identities, If the same faces keep showing up at different riots, major jail time should follow!!
Me, I just thought the dipper convention started early. Wonder how many of these 'fans' will be there to listen to Jacko?
If you bothered to follow the links you might find out why Chapters wasn't looted.
I did read the stories and many more first hand accounts. There were people who tried to stop the looting at all the stores but when the looters met resistence at Chapters they moved on... uninterested in the contents contained in that store.
How about someone discovers the names and addresses of some of the morons arrested in the riots? Get 30 or so guys together, go to the moron's homes and torch their car, break their windows and loot their stuff. See if the morons think riots are cool when it is their stuff getting wrecked. Then you get the morons on camera afterward, giving a rambling, not logical and idiotic explanation for why wrecking their stuff is against the law but what they did was not.
The Vancouver skyline photos look a lot like the Los Angeles skyline during the Rodney King riots. This proves Canadian idiots don't hate all of America. They import and emulate the part they love. Congratulations Canucks. You are proving that you can reach up out of the toilet bowl and flush yourselves down into the sewer just like your southern neighbors. All those who can remember what civilization was like, raise your hands...
Why do the news anchors look and act so surprised? Surely they are faking it.
After all, the media has been front and center in sowing what we are now reaping.
Since Trudeau -
Political correctness run amok.
There can be no discrimination what so ever(not even in a right from wrong determination).
The rights of the perpetrator takes presidence over those of the victim.
Progressives do not believe there is such a thing as being accountable for ones actions.
Counseling, not incarceration is the progressives' way to a compassionate society - a just society.
In a liberal's mind, there is no such thing as 'moral hazard'.
A courageous soul takes a beating for trying to stop the looting.

God bless and heal him, and a pox on those who pummeled him AND their houses.
What Ken said X's 1000
Vancouver riots proof positive that “Liberalism is a mental disorder”.
If they cut off the entitlements the majority if their problems would solve themselves! Of course Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal are collectively sick with liberalism and things will only get worse over time.
This is why Liberal Europe is failing, Liberal states like California are failing, and Liberal cities like Detroit have failed.
I walk the area almost every day. I saw hundreds of real Vancouverites out this morning with brooms, garbage bags and even scrub brushes helping clean up.
Good folks.
There is a Future Shop downtown . . you have to go up a very long escalator to the second floor.
Some yobs kicked in the lower doors and ran up the escalator figuring they could loot the electronics and were met by two "Private Security Guards" i.e big guys with big muscles in tight T shirts, who told the yobs in no uncertain terms to bugger off, or else.
The yobs bailed back down the stairs very quickly.
I watched the CBC's coverage of the Vancouver riot last night and the interesting thing is the CBC started calling it a "riot" long before it had even developed to that stage.
No kidding, CBC reporters were positioned on a balcony right above the main concentration of the street mob and had their cameras trained right on them. There was absolutely no violence at the time but the CBC kept broadcasting that "fans are clashing with police", when in fact they were not.
Then what happened: some of the people in the mob looked up and realized that the CBC cameras were trained on them because they could see themselves on their little portable Ipads (or whatever you call them) which were tuned to CBC news. You could actually see people pointing to the CBC cameras in the balcony and to the streaming video on their Internet gadgets watching themselves on TV.
Meanwhile CBC kept broadcasting the erroneous information that these people were "clashing with Police" when they were in fact not (not yet), and the CBC commentator proceeded to recount the 1994 Stanley Cup riot in Vancouver and how it compared. Word spread quickly through the crowd that they were on TV news, together with the erroneous but suggestive information that they were "clashing with police" and the comparison with 1994. Well, most of these young people would be too young to remember the 1994 riot and probably weren't even aware of it until the CBC started talking about it, together with the false information about a police clash which was not yet happening.
My allegation is that the mob didn't start clashing with police until the CBC started suggesting it, which was being heard and viewed by individuals in the mob with thier Internet gadgets. Because not long after the mob was aware that they were the centre of attention and a subject of comparison with 1994, the mob did in fact start to get violent and attack Police. They wanted to fulfill the media's expectations that they would "clash with Police" and it could be compared to the 1994 riot of their delinquent forebearers.
The CBC is reminiscent of Marshall McLuhan's prediction: "The media IS the message."
Maybe they need a "Safe Riot Site" built next to the "Safe Injection Site" so these part time savages can get their fix in private. Hedy Fry can cut the ribbon at the unveiling.
During the LA riots...asian owned shops were the targets of the rioters...underlining the racist motives of the rioters.
The asian shop-keepers successfully fought off the rioters with firearms.
What all these events LA, G20 and now this illustrate is that civilization is a thin veneer easilly rendered by the slightest excuse by a HOOLIGAN element...some of whom travel vast distance to participate....these professional rioters need identifying and incarcerating/deporting.
This is why electrical blackouts are such security hazards....during the "big blackout" of 1965 there was little mayhem...but now this Hooligan element is ready to deploy on short notice.
As far as looting...Chapters was safe....arson is another matter and predictable....
I'm retired now but in the past these events have resulted in a short term demand for security bars by merchants......for which I usually had a stock of 1/2 square bar on hand and promptly ordered more.
My proceedure was to crank out the sections, paint and install within less than 48 hours...before the panic subsided. Lotsa over-time....
My customers noted that the simple presence of security bars usually discouraged window breakage.
I noted that new immigrant owned businesses (especially 3rd world origin)would install security bars as SOP before they opened for business.
Last night CBC kept referring to the scum as "protesters". That's the level of broadcasting excellence we get from our billion dollar national broadcaster.
As much as I would like to see Wendy Mesley up on charges for inciting a riot, I'll have to disagree with you on this one Ricardo. It's something in the water out there that makes people crazy.
sasquatch >
"I noted that new immigrant owned businesses (especially 3rd world origin)would install security bars as SOP before they opened for business"
That's because they have an inside track on what's comming.
"Safe Riot Site" - thread winner!!
Liberal minds will see it as a suggestion.
Thanks syncrodox for your astute observation, there is indeed a story being totally ignored by the media.
This was not so much a riot, but more an excuse for mass looting, carried out by the entitled class of socialists that infest this city and its environs. This is NDP central, there is a deep inbred sense of entitlement, nurtured in the schools, universities and public institutions. (want free drugs?-sure thing, free public transit?-sure, no turnstiles required, free education?-is not that your right.) free, free, free-no worries the taxpayer will pay. And so, we have morons that have heard the mantra literally from kindergarten who wear $200 dollar hockey gear looting stores, and destroying other peoples property. How dare people own stuff, it should rightfully be distributed equally by a committee.
I disagree with Robert in one regard-these ARE Vancouver hockey fans, they may not attend the game BUT they will assemble in the street for a FREE show on the monster screens, hey its free, we are all Canucks now (the moronic advertising campaign of the Canucks) what can they do after the game, hey lets get some free stuff and/or destroy other peoples stuff!
And so a toxic mix of morons (disaffected marxists, black bloc anarchists, gweedo's and south asians, the last two groups notorious for raising their sons as little princes who must have everything) go on a rampage.
I will try to lay off the dismal display of "policing" though it is deeply disturbing. The police deployed would do the job if they had a hint of leadership, but you see the Vancouver PD is a politically correct hellhole, the police chief is of asian-origin, the main spokesman a woman, their major concerns are being gay-friendly, happy-clappy, gender-neutral social workers in dark uniforms. Given a serious police task they are bewildered.
The mayor is ex-NDP, mostly concerned with cycle paths, and growing wheat in parks. The premier and attorney-general(both women) have been on the radio this morning spouting fatuous nonsense. Local MP's include the notorious Hedy Fry and Libby Davies. Non of them understand that policing sometimes requires a few heads to get busted, so despite endless analysis nothing will be learned and YOU will pay for the mayhem in increased insurance and policing costs.(Hey its free the insurance company paid!)
Who have I not offended yet? Oh yes, the effeminate young men in their capri pants joining in to steal perfume for their adoring bimbo girlfriends. Followers, easily led, typical Canuckleheads)
As for the game,-boring, but well done Tim Thomas the only guy worth watching, and Mark Recchi who showed that there are many decent people in BC.
As for Vancouver, well done you are truly a world-class city, too bad it resembles Mogadishnu.
And my record of never spending a cent on the Canucks since 1990 still stands and will continue. Awful team.
There needs to be a law against covering up one's face in public. And, during a declaration of "Emergency" - anyone covering up their face should be immediately detained.
This really does not speak well of our modern evolved society. Turn the clock back twenty years - who would have thought that cars would burn in Canadian streets?
It pains me to say this, but Vancouver should put up prominent high-definition surveillance cameras in all of the riot zones.
Then the next time this happens, prosecute to the full extent of the law.
I had a bitter laugh at the image of SWAT officer carrying a lethal automatic weapon. Does anybody think they would ever fire that thing? Why do they bother lugging them around? Any smart cop would likely take a beat down before firing it, even in self defense, because they know what would happen to them if they even wounded someone.
Don't misunderstand me, I'm not demanding people be shot; I'm just tired of the pretense that goes on at these events.
Rabbit >
“...but Vancouver should put up prominent high-definition surveillance cameras in all of the riot zones”.
We could also go full Liberal retard like the UK and force Vancouverites to put surveillance cameras in their homes as well.
Seriously as suggested earlier, what Vancouver needs to do, is pull the rug out on its entitlement programs & pseudo intellectual Liberal philosophies forcing these people to bloody well work for a living (i.e. real jobs, not manufactured kindergarten nanny “jobs/ jokes” care of their BA degree’s).
As the old adage goes “idle hands are the devil’s workshop”.
Brock Anton is famous! Try googling and enjoy!
Well done Robert, you have worked overtime helping to expose the utter stupidity of long term exposure to liberalism. This is the end result of Turdopia and the sooner the stinking CBC is sold off the better for Canada, the unemployment lines will swell since NO one in their right mind would hire these misfits and miscreants to work in private broadcasting. Sad for Van, but predictable, this would never happen in Calgary, you only get to see a lot of nice hooters for free after the Flames playoff run!
"Who are these people? Thousands, thousands, thousands of them. Laughing. Delighted with the destruction. As was pointed out over coffee this AM, there was a vast contrast between the "fans" and the rioters. Most media videos during the other games showed large numbers of east asian faces looking at the cameras. Last night the rioters were all white with rare exception. Out in Surrey, very few problems for Police. Mostly East Asian participants. And this is where most of the Police backup came from?
Let's see here: a Postal strike, an Air Can strike, riots, evil Conservative Government. Hmmm; there couldn't be a plan here could there?
No; just my paranoia showing.
Unfortunately, even if these thugs and looters are identified the legal system will kick in to ensure that there are no repercussions. Crown won't prosecute and the bottom feeders from defence attorneys to the BC Civil Liberties Association will rush to aid them and try to shift blame onto the police.
Only in Canada!
