there's probably some regulation says you can't lift any debris without a permit or license. Nanny wouldn't want you to hurt yourself doing what should be left for professionals

Where is the Army? According to Quebec, the army always hangs around and helps with the cleanup in the United States. The Canadian Forces leaving without cleaning up after the flooding was a sign of how much the ROC lets down Quebec.

It doesn't matter anymore what we think Obama can or cannot do. What is happening in America is fixed into their future and will prevail.
When they can no longer borrow funds to finance the
power of their armed forces they will slide from the horizon. It's very sad to watch the sunset of a great nation and the world will not be better off without a strong America.
Obama can bounce around with his TelePrompter all he likes, but he really is irrelevant to the course of history. He has ensured that an American comeback to the world stage cannot
happen.
We can speculate about what the end will look like, but we can't stop it from happening. The one mistake we can make is to treat Obama as a political discussion because that implies that a change can take place.
The time for dreams of change are over for America, we can only hope that our world will not move into another future called the "second dark ages". As it stands no one can claim that the last fifty years was the "age of enlightenment in America".
Perhaps that will be Obama's legacy to history; "To turn out the lights as the last man standing".

My wife and I were in Thailand in 2005, 4 months after the tsunami. It was not our first visit, so we had the opportunity to measure "before" vs. "after". What amazed us - even in the most hard-hit areas - was the speed with which the devastation was being remedied. What we also found inspiring was the resilience and the determination of the people who didn't wait for government aid, but rather, in spite of their losses - both material and personal - dug in in an attempt to restore their lives as quickly as possible.
Unfortunately, that determination appears to be absent here. Sad.

We volunteered for flood and hurricane cleanup along the coast of NC.

One man wanted to burn his devastated,
flooded home.

We were told No!
The carpets are a health hazard.

So, we removed all the carpets,
No again.

Because the roof is made of shingles-
Health hazard.

I told him to go to the store and get a cold drink,
When he got back it was almost burnt to the ground because the fire dept got stuck.

The electric wiring was faulty-

Amazing what a can of gas and a cigarette lighter can do.

39% more people are on food-stamps since Obamba took office, how dare anyone say he ain’t looking after them. The dream is alive, no work and get paid. Blacks across America “don’t need to worry about their mortgage anymore neither”.

To be fair in a situation like that we don't know the facts. Perhaps people were not let back into the areas they lived for health and looting risks.
I don't think you could rent a truck or backhoe. A lot of businesses are gone. Job gone no money.
It would be life changing.

It will be interesting to compare Slave Lake to some of these disaster areas. I think I know how the comparison will turn out.

A month later and the -streets- aren't cleared? Its only six freakin' blocks, one guy with a bobcat and a dumptruck would have it half done by now. Even if he had to do it solo. Wooden houses got blown apart by wind, the place didn't get buried in a landslide. There can't be that much material to move.

There's no paving companies in Alabama that have machines to lend? No guys trying to help out bringing their loader, farm tractor, even wheel barrows?

If it isn't done yet, the city, county or state must be actively preventing volunteers from doing it.

These taxpaying cry-babies need suck it up, and get back to work!

On the other hand, people pay a hell of allot in taxes for non-existent government support. Where is their power, water and open roads that they pay to have maintained? Where is FEMA, where does FEMA get its funding to begin with?

This is where Obamba has fallen down, yet again. The goal should be to get these people up and running to continue to contribute to society. Instead, they are left to fend for themselves along with private insurance, while Obamba indiscriminately drops $250K bombs around Libya, and sends military aid to Haiti amongst other foreign nations.

Yes, I agree. I was paralleling the "waiting for Big Brother to come and do it" mentality that seemed prevalent in both cases. The fact that no one IS actually coming and doing it is in fact somewhat surprising....

Also, notice that the states not getting lots of attention or federal aid seem to all be red states: Texas, Wisconsin, Alabama, Oklahoma...

From where I sit, the Obama administration is punitively punishing those who did not vote for the right candidates.

What's that old saying about throwing stones in glass houses? I figured out that Knight 99 had a typo on the word savoir and meant savior but I am having trouble with not patricia's word "gigure". I hope not patricia is willing to clarify since it is obvious that not patricia is incapable of simple typos of the kind that Knight 99 made. BTW using Firefox "gigure" shows up as an error, savoir does not. Just sayin'.

But the key point is the rejection of individual responsibility and the insistence on a Father Figure, such as Obama or the Government, to move in and 'take care of everything'.

Remember how he insisted that Congress, which represents the People, pass his legislation based only on their trust in Him. Without reading or debating these bills. Now - that's authoritarianism. I think Americans are seeing their country is turning into Chicago. The difference is they still have a chance to stop it. The people that will dislike bambam the most are the people he let down the hardest.

@trevor I can assure you the town of Slave lake has been over run by a army of restoration company's already busy at restoring the town. The local hospital had 100s of people getting it back operable. No excuses no delay's. No excuses for Obama.
