O Canada - From Vancouver, Wednesday Night

A few hours later, the Canucks beat the Bruins 1 - 0, with a goal in the dying seconds of the game.

Update: Here's how the NY Times covered the first game of the series in Vancouver. h/t Derek

Wow, amazing game!

I'm torn, the Bruins of the 70's (Esposito and Orr, #4!) and the Canucks (go Tiger!) in the early 80's were two of my favorites.

Looking forward to more. Real. Good. Hockey.

I managed to watch the last few minutes and saw the goal being scored. This is a good start for Vancouver. Go Canucks!

Robert, good pick. Unless one has been to the rink when the crowd sings, it's hard to appreciate the emotion. Every rink, north and south of the 49th, should have such gusto.

Here's some raw footage I shot around downtown Vancouver during the Game.

It's been a long 17 years since Vancouver was in the Stanley Cup finals. It's at times like these that I wish I had the ability to watch the game; despite the $1 billion spent on the CBC there is no broadcast CBC station where I live. It might be off to the doctors lounge at the hospital to watch future games and I hope they make an exception for drinking beer there during the final playoff games.

The throng in the streets out here in Surrey/North Delta are simply amazing. Thousands at Scott and 72nd with fireworks and police blocking off the streets. You'd think it was the G20 or something.
It's so ironic; just past, perhaps the most important election in my 72 years and almost half of them didn't bother to come out and vote. Yet something that makes no difference in their lives....oh-well.
I guess we all need a diversion from time to time. Go Canucks Go!!!

gunney99, a celebrating Vancouver has an energy like no other!

It was a great, exciting game, I'm looking forward to more of this competition.

I love that, within two weeks, win or lose, no matter what, they'll be flipping stuff over and lighting it on fire. Nobody celebrates--or protests--like Vancouver. (Though who can tell the difference?)

Hello Loki,

I believe CBC Sports streams the games on the internet at this address: http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/hockeynightincanada/idesk/ . If you have a half-decent internet connection the quality is actually not that bad.

For those interested to get a feel of what it's like in Vancouver these days, I've been taking a lot of photos of the excitement that is consuming the city. The mood is very reminiscent of the 2010 Olympics. You can view them here.

Brings a tear to my eye. Best part of O'Canada? NO FRENCH!

Henrik to Daniel to Henrik to Daniel over to Brucie to Davey back to Johnny. Do Hughson, Canuck fans and the CBC have any idea how bush league this sounds? It reminds me of watching local US announcers. WE SCORED! Ptui!

Like Derek, I am torn. I was a Boston fan when there were only six teams. I have been disappointed by canuCks for 40 years. The best final possible for me.

IMO the Bruins weren't really in the game even with a 1 - 0 score. Van outchanced them big time. Cannot think of a standout Bruin forward even with all the PPs.

I am always reminded of the clowns who object to the Nation Anthem being sung at sporting events when I witness these things. If not at these types of events when else would we sing our anthem and particularly with such conviction.

Cool Vancouver got Ron Jeremy to sing O Canada last night!

Singer was Mark Donnelly who is a proud Conservative. He sang the national anthem at one of Harper's rally's in Burnaby during the last election. Notice he is wearing Tory Blue colours.

Were you at the game Robert?

No French?
Nice!

Holy heartland batman! What's with the brazen show of unabashed patriotism by those folks?
What is this, America?

O Canada has a new strength to it these days. I am Canadian!!!
