So tiresomely typical of the Left, all over the West. If you don't agree completely with any part of Leftard Secular Theology, you get demonized. You're subjected to vociferous, unceasing personal attacks. THAT is just a flavor of the rhetorical practice called the Ad Hominem attack. Attack the Messenger, an amoral and intellectually lazy way to avoid debating his/her viewpoint, the Message.
So, rather than debate Rob Ford specifically for example for his opposition to gay "marriage", just dismiss him as a hater, a "homophobe".
And that "arrogant, annoying, loud-mouthed Toronto Leftard" has plenty of simpatico arrogant, annoying, loud-mouthed Leftard spiritual kin in San Francisco, Hollywood, New York, etc. ad nauseum.
I doubt that the Good Lord would approve this type of circus, people should not doubt their own hearts and I applaud Mayor Ford for not attending an event that does nobody any good. It is not about money, it is about value(s), IMO.
"John Downs sure does reinforce the stereotype of arrogant, annoying, loud-mouthed Toronto Leftards:"
Is that really what it is or is he just a jerk and would be a jerk know matter what his viewpoint is? Some people are just born to be irritating and he certainly seems to qualify as one of them.
Can't there be someplace private out in the country that queers can have their congregations in the summer? I've never seen one of the queer pride parades and used to make a point of being far from Vancouver on the weekend that it occurred.
Right now this homosexual organization is getting away with numerous criminal code morals violations and Rob Ford should have come out and said he would not be an accessory to the crimes that are being committed. Maybe what we need a large gunowners pride parade where we carry our rifles naked without their stifling cases and trigger locks and let them rejoice in the sunshine. A lot more family friendly than the homosexual alternative.
I support Rob Ford and his stand on not being a part of the Gay Pride (sic) Week in Toronto. He is following his conscience, which is what any person with integrity -- and not willing to sell out his values to the lowest bidder, in this case -- should and must do.
As for the argument that Gay Pride brings in a lot of revenue: Let's look at the revenue that will support (mostly childless) gays' pensions and health care costs and will be provided by the children of heterosexual couples in the years to come.
In light of this perspective, why is Canada Day being hijacked by the gay agenda in Toronto? Why isn't Canada Day a celebration of the family, which for the most part, isn't headed by a same-sex couple? Statistics Canada has the gay population in Canada at a little over 1%, so why the big celebration for such a tiny minority? (Rhetorical question: I think we all know the answer.)
1.1% — The percentage of Canadians aged 18 to 59 who reported in 2009 that they consider themselves to be homosexual (gay or lesbian).

The bully tactics used by activist gays towards Mayor Rob Ford -- and towards anyone who doesn't go along with their values and lifestyle -- are doing the gay community no favours. People are becoming increasingly wary of and offended by gay militancy, which shows little respect for individual's rights to make choices about the moral and ethical values they choose to live by. Why should gays have all the rights and no one else? They need to be asking themselves this fundamental question.
You can't have your rights at the expense of others' rights, because then they're not rights but entitlements. It's a shame that gay politics have come to mean thuggish, bullying tactics and entitlements.
This is another example of why Toronto should be made a city-state, and get their influence the hell away from the rest of the Country.
Gays have the same rights as everybody else, but they want to be more "equal". Gay activists will continue to intimidate politicians and anyone else who crosses their path, and use every device extant to push their agenda, which seems to be all about power.
Gays, hold your bloody parade, and leave the rest of us out of it, and that includes Ford and any other pol with the balls to not kiss your gay feet.
Coren was right in his remark about fascism.
I believe John Downs' message was, "If Rob Ford will not give an official government sanction to homosexuality by attending Gay Pride, then he should make a bold public statement about his moral objections so that the left can more easily heap abuse upon him."
Man it is going to be a long four years of this type of garbage. Then another four years of this garbage. I may just tune out.
You can feel the power of the left slip away. G8/G20
no one cares. Vancouver riot and subsequent ratting out of the wrong doers. The propeller of a Gaza ship cut off (their claim) when it is probably all the turmoil in Greece.
The world has turned to the right and their cries are falling on deaf ears.
It's like we know what is coming or something.
I watch the Michael Coren on a regular basis and next to the shows with David Menzees and Marian Mead Ward, the ones with Andrew Lawton and John Downs are a favorite of mine. John Downs is the Stereo typical example of the irrational left, and no amount of ligic will change his position. He is totally entrenched in the radical position of the left and has total disdain for any other position. The only other person the Michael has on his panels who is so radically biased is Sid Ryan.
I hope the Michael Coren will continue doing has CTS round table discussions after he gets his own show on Sun TV.
"pride goes before a fall"
John Downs agenda is plainly obvious to anyone who is thinking.
Either Mayor Rob Ford bows down to the gay icon or he should say something nasty and then we can yell from the rooftops "HOMOPHOBE"...and condemn him.
Pretty simple political baiting really and Rob Ford isn't playing John Downs game...oh boo hoo.
If one wanted to be really crass you would say:
"Look I don't care if you don't know where to put your 'schlong', but you can begin by getting it out of my face."
But Rob Ford is too polite...
It is not tolerance that they preach, but rather public affirmation of their private bedroom antics. But in 'Trudeaupia' the state is supposed to be out of people's bedrooms unless of course your name is Mayor Rob Ford.

Where I live, “queers” as they call themselves, exploit the “pride” weekend to wander anywhere in the city, (un)dressed like something out of a porn movie. I’ve never been to a gay pride parade—on purpose—because I’ve seen pictures posted here and elsewhere that show the most lewd and, yes, as Michael points out, illegal acts done openly, in public.
That people take children to this offensive, overtly sexual, and perverted event disgusts me. And people like Mayor Ford and I are the ones considered offensive by the likes of John Downs! (I’d have to restrain myself from calling him names: what a self-satisfied, small-minded prig!) Trudeau said that the government has no business in the bedrooms of this nation: the “gay” community has, it seems, interpreted this to mean taking actions, which should remain in the privacy of their bedrooms, to our main streets.
Why is it that this particular group of people is allowed to flaunt both community standards and the law in this way? A heterosexual couple, who publicly engaged in the perversions and sexual activities that will be on display at the gay pride parade, would most likely be charged, while, as they tend to do with Muslims, Tamils, Aboriginals, Black Bloc and other protected groups, the police will turn a blind eye. Perhaps Mayor Ford is staying away because the gay pride parade is a prime example of the arbitrary application of the law and, therefore, is an example of a breakdown of the rule of law. As mayor, isn’t it his job to see that the law is upheld in his jurisdiction? THAT’S another very good reason for Ford to stay away.
The juvenile behaviour, regularly on display in much of the homosexual community is tiresome, to say the least. Too many of them behave like teenagers: “I know everything, I can do whatever I want, and if you don’t let me, you’re a meanie and I don’t like you. And I’ll call you names!” Who’s being denied freedom of choice here? The mean spirited double standard of gay activists and their supporters, who are actually quite vicious, is breathtaking. And they imply that those of us, who don’t want their agenda, their perverse costumes, and certain body parts shoved in our faces, are the intolerant ones. Give. Me. A. Break.
(I have gay friends. One died of AIDS and I coordinated the palliative care team when he was dying. I spent many nights in the hospital bed beside him in his last days. I mention this because I’m sick to death of being called “homophobic” by a group of elitists who are, at the same time, among the least tolerant and the most arrogant and vindictive folks around.)
Well done, Mayor Ford, and, if you agree with his decision to give gay pride week/parade a pass, I encourage you to write him and let him know. mayor_ford@toronto.ca
Who is this guy John Downs? Must do googly I guess.
PS. Enjoy your well deserved long weekend Mayor Ford.
Mr. Downs strikes me as being rather stupid, i.e., lacking neither intellectual ability nor any knowledge beyond that of People Magazine.
It wouldn't suprise me at all if, when he was given a new book for his birthday, would reply: 'But I've already got one of those: See Spot Run!.'
Every week Michael makes mince-meat of him...and perhaps that's the way he wants it. Still, it's painful to watch; a bit like watching a cat playing with its prey.
Ban all parades, exhibitions, demonstrations, charity bike races , walks and runs that put people in the streets, in downtown Toronto (except the Santa Clause parade).
Use the CNE grounds it's largely vacant and you can march around and around till your hearts content.
It is beyond ridiculous trying to go anywhere downtown on the weekend.
Have your demonstrations, gay, Indian, Carribean,Tamil, Sihk, Irish, parade, book sales, and celebrations of food, art, or "light" in one of the many beautiful venues made specifically to handle large crowds of people. They have parking too. They're also empty most weekends. (probably because the traffic is so bad)
The streets are the only place that cars, fire trucks, and ambulances are able to navigate. Stay off the road. I live downtown and with weekend construction closing the main access routes (there are 3) and the all day everyday charity walks it's like you're trapped on the weekend if you don't leave by 7:00 am. and stay gone all day.
1010 CFRB used to be so good. I listened to it all the time in the car.
The decline started with John Moore and continuous with this doofus.
Does anybody listen to it anymore, do they have one reasonable person on air? Their ratings must be in the toilet.
Friends this is simple: gay parades today are what hippie festivals were in the 60's. History repeats itself.
Well done Rob Ford. We need far more politicians like him.
Seriously, is there anything less important than gay exhibitionism? If the silly mutts think being able to wave their privates in public makes them free, why patronize such deluded mass psychosis.
Ford has the civility not to play into this gay delusion or their loopy politics.
batb and lookout - and others - nice posts.
The gay people I know are ashamed of the juvenile exhibitionism of the 'pride parade' and have nothing to do with it.
On a side note, remember the other leftist ideology, the belief that reality is just 'all in the mind'. And that far-left couple who are raising a 'gender-neutral child' because they say that gender is a cultural rather than natural construct.
Well, if that's the case, then, according to these leftist parents, wouldn't homosexuality and lesbianism be 'all in the mind' and not an innate tendency of some? Yet, the gay crowd claims it's innate. I happen to agree with them; it's innate. But exhibitionism and lewdness is not innate; it's juvenile.
Ford is right to miss it and spend time with his family.
I should add that raising the "pride flag" at City Hall is a truly offensive thing to do. It is a form of in-your-face vandalism.
Were I Ford, I would get out of town too.
"The gay people I know are ashamed of the juvenile exhibitionism of the 'pride parade' and have nothing to do with it."
Oh god, here we go again with the "moderate Muslims" argument.
I don't accept that being the mayor of a city means that you, personally, must hold all the beliefs of every group in that city.
It means only that, as mayor, you acknowledge the freedom of these different groups to hold their particular beliefs - even if you yourself do not hold them.
It is arrogant of the gay community to insist that others must hold the same beliefs as they do. Do they hold the same beliefs as every other group in the city???
I'm gay, used to love to go to the Pride festival in London, Ontario, back when it was at the Western Fair, we had picnics and vendors and excellent stage entertainment. You could take your kids, and have a great time.
Now, it's reduced to a cage, downtown, on pavement, with a beer wagon and sub-par entertainment. Once in a while they might have a comedy night that can be fun, except when some comics believe the stereotype that all gay people hate Harper and are raging liberals. At that point, I become a heckler.
I've attended Toronto Pride once, over 10 years ago, mostly because I'm from a really small town in Arkansas and needed to see that there really are thousands and millions of other gay people in the world.
About Rob Ford: He has no reason to attend the Pride parade if it is not of interest to him, even if he didn't already have other plans. I support his freedom to make decisions that are best for the happiness of his family. He does not owe gay Torontonians a visit, simply because they could be a potential voting block.
I love what Rob Ford stands for, & I love how many leftist heads exploded, even in London, when he was elected. I'm also sure that if I lived in TO and had a problem with the city, Mayor Ford would look out for me, just like anyone else.
Being only 1% of the population I say there voice far outweighs the real influence they have. We must not let them, we must stop them, what has happened to our great country?
How about putting the sodomites in jail where they belong?
Just because turd-doh changed the laws doesn't make it right. Time to stand and be counted.
These "guys" don't need to worry, in years to come they will get their way. Rob Ford will be out, Islam will be in, and they will have a new mayor to hoist something of theirs up the flagpole.
Restrict the Gay Pride parade to an appropriate venue on the parade licence.
Gays love public parks, yes?
The licence should state that the venue is the South East section of High Park.
so they say that March for Life is a political event and Gay Pride is not? Then why did the two leftards on the panel constantly wonder about what Ford's political views are on gay issues (ss marriage, etc.)
gimme a break
So either Rob Ford goes to the parade and gets verbally abused and embarrassed or he stays away and gets verbally abused. All for a constituency that would never vote for him anyway. I'd stay away, too. Hell, as a private citizen, I would never go anywhere near a pride parade.
It’s evident that John Downs is completely incompetent in his ability to debate and discuss issues with common sense and objectivity.
Thanks, Kyla, for your message. I'd imagine there are many gays out there like you. It's unfortunate that the public face of the homosexual community is angry and spiteful because the agenda has been hijacked by some truly militant and nasty activists.
These activists and their left-wing supporters have definitely infiltrated our public school systems: “Gay is good” is their motto and no person, not wanting to be excoriated or, if they’re a teacher, re-educated or worse, will dare speak up to disagree.
The gay activist community, in the name of tolerance and inclusivity, now bullies and harasses those who don’t march in lock step with their highly charged and sexualized agenda. That Rob Ford has refused to be bullied by these narrow-minded, intolerant cry babies is a very good thing. Speaking of votes: I’ll bet his stand here will gain him far more than he’ll lose.
What batb and lookout said.
Good for Rob Ford.
There is one thing that sums up John Downs: leftist douchebag.
TJ - are you saying that all gay people are exhibitionists and lewd? Is that your point?
My point is that the Toronto Gay Parade does not honestly represent the gay community.
John Downs' friend, the one without the beard @7:13 - "The March for Life (anti-abortion) is a very politically driven event, (the) Pride (parade) is not."
Oh.
"...but John Downs sure does reinforce the stereotype of arrogant, annoying, loud-mouthed Toronto Leftards..."
Yup, people get like that when they're scared things are changing...
Glad to see that Michael Coren is getting the "spice" back into his show. Coren was flat-lining for a quite a while there -- starting to sound like a "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" Liberal chimpanzee when some of his Left guests came out with outrageous statements.
I think the removal of Charles McVety's show from CTS by the Broadcast Standards Council definitely put a chill on free speech on that network for a while. Stand up for free speech, Christians!
This is why gays are not liked.
Freedom for me, but not for thee.
Is it just me but I couldn't help but get the firm impression that John downs got beat up a lot in school.....and somebody like the dude beside him was doing the beating...
Seriously, is there anything less important than gay exhibitionism? "
Yeah, dog shows.
My experience with militant, activist, gays is that they seem to be in arrested development somewhere around adolescence.
Any parent of adolescents knows that they want what they want, when they want, and have very little tolerance or self-discipline if their desires are thwarted. They demand instant gratification and if they don't get it, then outta-my-way temper tantrum ensues.
This becomes a problem when a few hundred thousand of them congregate. You can't blame Rob Ford for not changing his July 1st weekend plans to attend a melee.
Now, Gay Pride (sic) is hijacking the Canada Day weekend, a weekend when Canadians with cottages are away. What's up with that?
You're right, Robert, you shouldn't generalize.
By the way, your use of "Leftard" seems to be deliberately inflammatory. If you'd like to win people over with facts, you shouldn't insult them at the same time.
Downs said several times that Mr. Ford should show courage.
Uh...Downsy Dude, that is what he is doing...
I'm all for gay apartheid. Give them a city (like Sanfansicko )and they can hang out together all they wish in public.
What’s up that they want to hang out in front heterosexuals and their children all the time? They need to go find a place for themselves or possibly we can make one for them (the costs to us should be equivalent in the long run).
It’s obvious that most gays don’t seem to like “strait people”. Well go stick together somewhere no one is stopping you, and leave the rest of us alone.
My question is, would the organizers of said parade attend a Christmas eve service with Mayor Ford and his family, dressed in suits, ties & dresses, behaving like civilized people? I thought not.........
"By the way, your use of "Leftard" seems to be deliberately inflammatory. If you'd like to win people over with facts, you shouldn't insult them at the same time."

Speaking for myself, I have zero interest in "winning over" prissy twits. As they say: You do catch more flies with honey, but then who wants a bowlfull of flies?
Saw an interview on Sun TV with a lesbian journalist ftom the Sun paper who was arguing for Ford's presence at the parade. She made the usual fraudulent claim that a million people attend it, and sadly was not challenged in that by the interviewer. But even more egregious was her response when the host pointed out that the mayor doesn't HAVE to go to every event, like say the Greek festival on the Danforth. Her attitude was that Pride was somehow special and much more deserving of the mayor's presence than any other event in the city.
How drearily and tiresomely predictable: "All are equal, but some are more equal than others". Liberal identity-grup politics in a nutshell.
Personally, I don't much care for zoos or the circus. 'nuff said.
I'm disappointed in the discussion; John Downs makes an incredibly vapid, illogical argument and no one keeps nailing him on it.
Gay pride as a 'cultural' event, which can be debated, is beside the point. Very few adults want to go to a slobbering, drunken, whoring party where men dance naked in the street. Whether they are straight or gay is irrelevant.
