In his weekly address released Saturday, President Barack Obama called for a campaign of "nation building here at home," citing as an example of what is needed to rebuild the American economy an initiative he announed Friday to "invest" tax dollars in what he called a "partnership" between the federal government and an initial group of 11 major corporations.
The administration's corporate partners in this venture include Caterpiller, Corning, Dow Chemical, Ford, Honeywell, Intel, Johnson and Johnson, Allegheny Technologies, Stryker and Proctor and Gamble.
Obama is not seeking new legislation from Congress to authorize his government-corporate partnership program--which he is calling the "Advanced Manufacturing Partnership"--and he did not say how the corporations in the partnership had been chosen.

No GE?
He's sounding more like Chavez every day.
...that's unexpected.
is this not fascism? (at least italian fascism as described by mussolini)
And to think they called Bush a fascist.
Who's going to be the state planning tzar?
I guess Ford is there because it makes money. The companies have coped and still have brand loyalty and revenue. Things he is sorely lacking.
I think it is for appearances.
GE still gets 'special' treatment and their CEO has direct access to the WH as does Trumka head of the largest union.
So many opportunities for the next Wesley Mouch to emerge form this pile of crap.
So right Fred.
They will even invest an estimated $300 milion in tax dollars to "co-invest with industry" in the development of products including "small high-powered batteries" and "alternative energy."
LOL. It looks like they are trying to find Galt's engine! (I always took that as a metaphor for capitalism and freedom and this is so funny to see the Mouches looking for it.)
Sadly, Phase 2 of the nationalization of industry begins. This is going to have a negative impact on the Canadian economy-expect significant layoffs or closures of the 'partnered' corporations facilities/offices in Canada.
President Barack Obama called for a campaign of "nation building here at home,"
To Barack Obama, "nation building" means growing the size, intrusiveness, and power of the U.S. Federal government.
Last time I looked, the United States of America was already a "built" nation.
What Barack Obama is doing is tearing the United States of America down.
"Ford" jumped right off the screen at me when I saw this. Of course he's going to ask the advise of private corporations who did not need bailing out when the s@#t hit the fan.
So, tear down Congress, tear down the Senate, and let the US be run by bullet-proof Barack and the successful CEO's of the private sector.
Fascism. Textbook. Wonder when they build the Stuka factory?
Government investment-hmmmmmm.
I'm guessing this is going to be an affirmative action play, just like the glorious leader.
If you own stock in those companies, it might be time to liquidate.
Be afraid!
Whatever happens it will be a disaster except for the top Ponzi guys. Just another Chicago scam by Obama, that gets him closer to wrecking the USA.
Good gawd he's worse than I originally expected, leftwing leftarded gas bag.
No sign of the companies agreeing to this. This looks to be a forced take-over of companies not buying in to the first round of stimulus.
quick second look- All are defence suppliers, could be a case of buy in or lose your contracts.
I work for the Canadian arm of an American company that competes with a branch of Caterpillar. Sadly I don't see our 100 year old American company on the list, pretty sad when the government takes tax dollars from all (present and future) to choose winners.
A guess a single 1 billion dollar, US company employing a couple thousand high paid heavy industry manufacturing jobs isn't good enough for Big-O.
Still more proof of Globalization...The US is it's leader with the Federal Reserve in tow.
Eventually there will be but 2 kinds of "things" to chose from;like Coke and Pepsi...To give the illusion of 'competition' you see.
You can add "Democrat" and "Republican" to that equation...Same thing, slightly different 'taste'.
Will Caterpillar now build battery operated bulldozers; like Government motors is forced to built now, re: The Volt?
So, these Corporations will create jobs to manufacture certain brands...What if aunt Betsy does not like Procter and Gamble laundry detergents?
Will Obama force the competition out? Catch my drift about elimination of Competition?
Are we in trouble or what?

I was flipping through the channels and landed on CNN on the weekend for a few minutes. A Liberal pundit was arguing that the stimulus didn't work because it was too small. I'm serious.
I should of read the entire article (Link) before commenting but it seems a lot of emphasis is on the 'environment' yet again and those icky dirty and evil manufacturing companies...So yeah it sounds like Caterpillar might be battery operated like the kids sandbox bulldozers.
Procter and Gamble will make overpriced 'organic', odorless, colorless crap that passes for soap.
The article reads something like Barry is basically putting Al Gore, the EPA and loony tune econazis in charge of kick starting the US economy...A sure fire WINNER!
Nothing this sob does now phases me.
I will say this though, I agree with Bachmann, we can't take another term of Obambi.
I wonder if they are all unionized. Obama is heavily dependent on the unions and the money and campaign work for him. And Obama has, always, only ONE focus: Himself. He's always campaigning and I suspect this is part of his campaign. Support the Unions.
And - are these in Democratic states? Again, with Obama, it's all about Him.
Notice that he still wants to raise taxes on 'the rich', i.e., anyone who makes over 200,000 a year. This includes almost ALL SMALL BUSINESSES, which file as individuals. Obama is effectively taxing, not the megarich, who like Kerry and Geithner etc, hide or don't pay their taxes. He is taxing the small businessmen into extinction. And, using the taxpayer money to support his union buddies to get him elected.
Sounds similar to Chretien, doesn't it?
This guy gets scarier and scarier. Hopefully there are going to be some Americans who are willing and able to respond to this. I can't imagine why any of these companies would agree to such a "partnership". No, the money the Government will initially offer is no where close to being a valid reason. Sooner or later one partner will approach the other asking for a "favor". Sound familiar?
Some commenters to the original article have stated that this action is unconstitutional.

I think I caught that one James, and she went on to say that the bailout of GM and Chrysler were successfull and now that Obama had turned the economy around he still had few folks that needed some help.
That's generally about the time I start hollering at the TV.

Jeesus, did any one read towards the end of the article?
They aren't even hiding it anymore...
I would say: "And so it begins.", but... it began quite a while ago, didn't it?
This is more the beginning of the end, I'm afraid. I suppose the only question is how it will end. Do we even have enough people left in the country willing to put a stop to this? The next couple of decades are going to be interesting times, for sure.
I say that, of course, in the way the Chinese used to use it.
His new propaganda minister will make sure we all see this and every Barry Big Ears initiative is well received...

Here's the end of the article, says it all: Can you spell GLOBALIZATION?
"Resources must be diverted from frivolous and wasteful uses in overdeveloped countries to filling the genuine needs of underdeveloped countries," Holdren and his co-authors wrote. "This effort must be largely political, especially with regard to our overexploitation of world resources, but the campaign should be strongly supplemented by legal and boycott action against polluters and others whose activities damage the environment. The need for de-development presents our economists with a major challenge. They must design a stable, low-consumption economy in which there is a much more equitable distribution of wealth than in the present one. Redistribution of wealth both within and among nations is absolutely essential, if a decent life is to be provided for every human being.”
In a videotaped interview with CNSNews.com in September 2010, reporter Nicholas Ballays asked Holdren what he meant by a campaign to de-develop the United States.
“What we meant by that was stopping the kinds of activities that are destroying the environment and replacing them with activities that would produce both prosperity and environmental quality," said Holdren. "Thanks a lot.”
Ballasy followed-up: “And how do you plan on implementing that?”
“Through the free market economy,” Holdren said.
It's truly amazing when a number like 500 million, compared to a number like 3.6 trillion, seems absolutely trival ... like chump, chump, chump, chump, chump, chump, chump, chump, chump, chump, chump, chump, etc change.
What the heck, at least we know now where the innovation is coming from.
the US has a problem that they must handle themselves. we can't help them and i'm sorry. they voted him in and now they must live with him. God help the USA.
For the few ESL dropouts who continue to post nonsensical comments, you really need to look up the word fascism.
Other than that ... whether this is a good idea or a bad idea depends entirely on the execution. It certainly wouldn't be the first time that the government has funded research or development in order to develop technology. What do you think the US military does when it wants new toys?
If the money is squandered on half baked projects which don't have a chance of succeeding, obviously it's bad. If they go towards developing technologies which give American companies an edge over the competition, or benefit the nation in some other way, then it's good. Either way, $500 million really is chump-change. That will buy you one launch of the Space Shuttle. Or one and a half F-22's.
A declaration of War on America, that was only speculation, is now all too real. This is about delivering America to the EU/UN ..A sad sack cobble of failed Nations..
I don't think Obama will make it to 2012...He is snake bit crazy... Anti-Trust Violation, Unconstitutional. Congress MUST stop enabling Obama...Cut off "all" funding until he resigns...If that means defaulting on debt..so be it
Slap Shot,
Hyenas don't eat vultures and vice versa...It's too late for the Republic. Forget the two party system; they have been joined at the hip for a long time now. The USA's tremendous power created an Empire of corruption over the last 90 years or so. They are (The Federal Reserve and it's affiliate banks and investment firms worldwide including the IMF)the main drivers of Globalization or the, for some, scary sounding "New World Order".
-Elimination of Sovereignty for every nation by creating one world currency or at least elimination of value rating system/currency.
-Internationalization of mega-corporations...elimination of competition by buy outs or other Government assisted "tactics".
Bottom line: Communism on a worldwide scale...Marx's theories did not work living side by side with capitalism. We are witnessing the engineered elimination of free market capitalism on a worldwide scale...We are headed for a gentler, kinder type of bondage. A high tech police world where eventually every one allowed to be born will already have been decided what they would do...From having babies for the 'State' or be the guy who checks to see if you are producing enough to earn your monthly 'credits'.
"...We are headed for a gentler, kinder type of bondage."
What I meant here is this:
If you 'revolt' again'st the system (AKA not following the rules or inviting others to do so(Revolt)) then instead of just shooting you dead or sending you to the gulags like the good old USSR did (This type of deterrent cause more built up anger from the citizens over time) , you will be sent for "rehabilitation": Pills, brain manipulation you name it (Aren't we already kinda allowing this on our kids re: Ritalin?...See, slow, steady incrementals) . You will be surrounded by gentle social workers and doctors...All for the mutual good. You will then be released with a big grin on your face to 'calm' your 'surroundings': "I was wrong, long live the State!"
Instead of ever growing prison guard job creation like the old ways; it will be more 'high tech' and gentler.
That kind of approach will make attempts at revolutions much more difficult for success.
Can't wait! /sarc.
Reminds me of the movie THX 1138.
Are there any SDA regulars who are willing to slap down these two lunatics?
Looks like Obama is taking a page from the Lorne Calvert book of economics.
I hear that Obama is being made an honorary Indian chief. His Indian name will be "Crow Knee"...
