You know, even in her declining condition, I think Maggie Thatcher could still beat the crap out of him. And she ought to.
Washington signed on to a “draft declaration on the question of the Malvinas Islands” passed by unanimous consent by the General Assembly of the Organisation of American States (OAS) at its meeting in San Salvador yesterday, an issue which had been heavily pushed by Argentina. In doing so, the United States sided not only with Buenos Aires, but also with a number of anti-American regimes including Hugo Chavez’s Venezuela and Daniel Ortega’s Nicaragua.
The declaration calls for Argentina and Great Britain to enter into negotiations over the sovereignty of the Falklands, a position which London has long viewed as completely unacceptable. It also comes in the wake of increasing aggression by the Kirchner regime in the past 18 months, including threats to blockade British shipping in the South Atlantic.
h/t Black Mamba

and some people still wonder why the Obamas were snubbed at the Royal Wedding . . . .
Argentina has no reasonable claim to the islands. They have never controlled them and the people there overwhelmingly want UK oversight. It's a ridiculous issue and only donkeys like Obama/Hilary would stab their allies in the back over such nonsense.

Canada is a member of the Organisation of American States (OAS).
Did we have a representative there and if so why did our representative vote YES along with the others?
Someone has some 'splainin' to do.
Thanks Black Mamba and chip is right in commenting "only donkeys like Obama/Hilary would stab their allies in the back over such nonsense".
Obama makes a statement like this almost weekly. It is really starting to look like Jimmah will go down in history as the second worst president in history.
Is There Nothing That Obama Can't Do?
I don't know ... but I do know one thing he can do ... He can kiss my big old hairy Mediterranean butt with his big fat African lips.
Communist traitor bastard.
Someone on another site suggested the US surrender its claim to Hawaii, which would have the added benefit of making Obama no longer a citizen... lol.
It is often said that The One supports America's enemies. The answer is "He supports his idealogical friends"
He is, like most lefties, incapable of seeing the world as reality rather than through his idealogical prejudices.
This man hates America, yet he is President of the USA. It must cause him much stress/
The Obama administration reflexively sides with the "Third World" against "Eurocolonialists." That is why, for instance, it is not so subtly shifting America's Middle East policy to favor the Palestinians at the expense of the Israelis (the former being assigned to the Third World category, the latter to the Eurocolonialist one). The same sort of logic--if you want to dignify the thought process with that name--applies to the Falklands/Malvinas dispute. (Argentinians are overwhelmingly of European descent, and disdain dark-skinned people to a much greater extent than today's British, but, what the heck, in the Obamite paradigm they are Third World, and that's that; they're the good guys.)
A more interesting question than why Obama is siding with Argentina against the UK, our natural and historical ally, is why Argentina has chosen this moment to press its claims to the Falklands/Malvinas. Here, the historical parallels are interesting. In 1982, the Galtieri dictatorship had run into severe economic problems, after Argentina had enjoyed a mostly prosperous 1970s decade, and needed a jingoist distraction to consolidate its rule. The Kirchner government, though admittedly not a dictatorship, also finds itself presiding over what seems like an intractable economic fiasco; if anything, things are worse than in 1982. The same temptations that seduced Galtieri operate now, with the added one that today's British navy is but a shell of its 1982 version, and, in Kirchner's assessment, is much less able, and serves a government much less willing, to project power across hemispheric distances.
Sure, go ahead and use this occasion to crap on Obama one more time, he deserves it because his representative voted for this travesty.
What I want to know is why Stephen Harper's representative to the OAS voted for it too and why Stephen Harper doesn't deserve the same opprobrium as Obama does?
Canada is the second largest $ contributor to the OAS and why are we even part of it?
So Canada can vote against crap like this, that's why.
So how is it that this thing passed unanimously?
Canada out of the UN, out of the OAS, and out of NATO.
I am POed.
I feel obligated to apologize for president Obama on behalf of (the reasonable) people from the USA. I'm starting to feel ashamed of being an American - beaten to death by poor judgement and actions by our president. If there was anything I could do...
oz - I checked the OAS site and the outline of motions passed. It doesn't say anything about unanimous or even give the vote. It says:
DRAFT DECLARATION ON THE QUESTION OF THE MALVINAS ISLANDS
(Adopted at the fourth plenary session, held on June 7, 2011)
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY,
CONSIDERING its repeated statements that the Question of the Malvinas Islands is a matter of enduring hemispheric concern;
RECALLING its resolution AG/RES. 928 (XVIII-O/88), adopted by consensus on November 19, 1988, in which it requested the Governments of the Argentine Republic and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to resume negotiations in order to find, as soon as possible, a peaceful solution to the sovereignty dispute;"
And it seems that Argentina was the speaker; no representation by the UK. Some reports say the vote was 'unanimous'; others just say a 'voice agreement'. The official records say nothing about which member states voted/abstained. But if Canada did indeed vote in favour - and I find that astonishing - it would be a shameful act. I can't find any mention of the vote and Canada's role.
The people of the Falklands have themselves rejected the Argentinian claim. Now, if the OAS are all for democracy -as they repeatedly assert - that would be the end of the matter.
But for Obama, his antagonism towards the UK trumps democracy.
That is an excellent question Oz. Was our rep even there?
Yeah, I checked it too, et.
No tally of votes, but why hasn't Canada come out publically against it if not part of the "unanimous consent" that the Telegraph claims..
The Canadian ambassador to the OAS is Allan Culham, formerly of CIDA.
The people who live there want to remain British...enough said
May 22, 1982 long weekend there was fighting in the Falklands, the Little Britches Rodeo was in High River and my oldest daughter was born. I'll never forget that bit of history, 'cause it's in the babybook.
I think 0bama's betrayal is disgraceful.
That being said... the incredible decline of Britain in the last generation, in every way that counts, with no political voice for any return to rationality, has been very disheartening.
Even ten years ago, I was teaching my kids about all of Britain's many achievements. But it's hard for me to muster much enthusiasm for Britain these days.
Any feeling I have for Britain is based on history, not the reality of the last 20 years, or of what its future is likely to look like.
Margaret Thatcher is twice the man of Barry Obama.
What did Mr. Cameron say? Anyone know?
Nothing Baria OB does surprises me as I have read extensively about Communism and the way those human hating scum operate. I blame the education systems in USA , Canada, Europe, GB...our history has been abandoned, by educators, for the mush and indoctrination of Communist fanaticism. If the people of USA had had a proper education they would have seen right through the Communist agent that they elected to the highest office in the land. Canadians did our stupid too, we elected the PET; who crippled and bankrupted our nation back in 1967.
Obama always doing the wrong thing at the wrong time. Just watch Taiwan is next on the hit list of his betrayals.
The mean His whole purpse is to destroy America & its defences.
JMO
Britain is a has been country, right up there with Greece and the rest of the PIIGS,soon to be joined by the USA.I will be calling my MP to see exactly how we voted,or if there even was a vote.As to the USA,they are being run by an Islamofacist, niiii boy man. They deserve what they get.My guns are oiled and ready.
Ah really? Barack the nazi dragon sides iwith hugo....say it ain't so.

PET the only man that made me wish I was a man, it is difficult to pee on a grave with elegant ease as a woman....sigh.....
daffy duck could do a better job than Obama.
Grey Lady, PET isn't in a grave.
He is interred in the Trudeau family crypt.
jim henshaw - so far, all I've found out is that the 'Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Diane Ablonzy, went to the OAS meeting.
http://www.international.gc.ca/media/state-etat/news-communiques/2011/159.aspx?lang=eng
But the focus seems to have been on 'security in the Americas'. I can't see any mention of her or Canada in the Falkland motion.
There was, apparently, a media teleconference on her visit there today, june 10. Someone could call and find out about the Falkland vote.

But, Oz, I guy can wiz on a crypt as easily as on a grave. Wimmins would have more of problem with a crypt.
I was in favor of American noninvolvement in the Malvina dispute. This goes beyond that and represents a disturbing low for Obama.
Turdo, Obummer, Hitler, elected leaders of countries they despise, and attempt everything within they're powers to destroy them.
Yeah britain could relocate the Falkland Islanders to the freshly liberated Sandwich Islands......that would be resonable. Obozo would like be in favour.....
That solution would predictably be refused smartly by both the Falkland Island residents and the current occupiers of the Sandwich Islands.
"PET the only man that made me wish I was a man, it is difficult to pee on a grave with elegant ease as a woman....sigh....." - The Grey Lady.
Oh, but a man participates from afar. Conversely, a woman's expression is much more intimate- with an added "two-fer" so to speak.
If David Cameron had any balls, he would respond to Obama publicly that Her Majesty's Government supports a negotiating process for the US and Mexico to determine the proper border for the disputed territory known as Texas. The only problem with that is that Obama would likely agree with him if his support for the ongoing Mexican invasion is any indication. The most anti-American (as defined by the Constitution) and deceitful POTUS ever.
Consistent with Barry's return of the the Winston Churchhill bust to the UK. Right out of "Dreams from my Father". 2012 can't come soon enough. Republicans have to get it together. Make "freedom of the individual v. tyranny of the group" the fundamental issue.
I have reflected upon this and have made these conclusions...
While the UK's military resources have somewhast wasted away since the 1980's.....the RN still has nuke attack subs...making an Argentine naval blockade irrelevant..
While Argentina's military resources have deteriorated as well...what with Argentina's long standing bankrupt condition.
As far as the Falklands, the UK now still has an adequate garrison there currently rather than just the platoon of Royal Marines that the Argies easily over-ran last time.
The attrition of time IMNSHO has impaired Argentina much more than the UK.
Remember also that due to Iraq and Afghanistan the UK has a signifigant core of battle-hardened veterans...a force multiplyer.
Any overt military move by Argentina would be beyond foolish.
and some people still wonder why the Obamas were snubbed at the Royal Wedding . . . .

gross hypocrisy explains it all.
True, sasquatch one only need point out the ARA General Belgrano and ask them if they need a 'repeat performance'?
Hey, does this mean that Canada gets Saint-Pierre & Miquelon?
nemo2- Does Canada really need more drunken Frenchmen?
Britain lost a battleship the last time someone tried to claim the Falklands. That conflict breathed new life into Britain's national pride, and elevated Thatcher to the position she still occupies. I really don't see them budging on their hold of the Falklands. If anything can light a fire under the Brits, this is probably it.
I read that Turdeaus headstone is a urinal so women can truly express their feelings about this Liberal POS.
Millions of Brits, as well as almost all their MSM, began sipping the Kool-Aid of Obama cult worship when Obama ran for President. It's only poetic justice that they now get this diplomatic back-stabbing from Comrade President Obama's Ministry of External Stupidities. File this in the ever-growing "Screw-Over-Your-Allies-and-Suck-Up-to-Your-Enemies" filing cabinet.
What is Obama going to do NEXT...?
Set up negotiations for the return to Mexico of California, Texas, Arizona and Nevada...!!!
Seems like a fair thing to do.
Mr. Obama is a tool of the left.
Mr. Obama is a tool of the left.

Mr. Obama is THE tool of the left.
There, fixed it. ;-)
"Revnant Dream" raises a very real possibility: That the Obama will next betray Taiwan to please his ideological masters. When the hell will the American people realize they have elected the enemy within? 2012 can't come too soon.
Is Obama daft??? Why does he keep going back in history in collusion with radicals to resurrect wars already won or lost and forgotten?
First he did it with Israel and the "1967 borders" idiocy, now with Argentina and the 1982 Falklands/Malvinas.
I was living in Latin America during the Malvinas crisis and it dam near brought all Latinos into the anti-democratic camp because of the way Castro and Ortega exploited it for propaganda purposes. The fact is it was a corrupt Argentinian government which, not unlike Syria today, attempted to draw attention away from itself by focusing on Malvinas much the way Syria is trying to draw attention to Israel.
The botton line is the people of Falklands/Malvinas were British citizens with a democratically elected goverment and didn't want to be ruled by the military dictatorship Junta of Argentina's General Galtieri. The residents of the Falklands/Malvinas were never consulted.
But the media propaganda throughout Latin America was very powerful at the time and I must confess that I at first sympathized with Argentina (truth be told, it could be dangerous to publicly sympathize otherwise).
And lest we forget, it was idiot French government our "Nato allies" that supplied the Argentinian dictators with the advanced Exocet missile system resulting in the sinking of the Brit destroyer HMS Sheffield.
But in the end the Brits won -- fair and square -- and constitutional democracy triumphed. And in in the end it triumphed everwhere throughout Latin America as dictatorships from both the Left and the Right collapsed and there was peace for 20 years.
Until Hugo Chavez came along that is, the resurgence of Ortega and the Sandinistas, the Bolivarian revolution, etc. And Obama is encouraging this! Will somebody please kick Barack Obama in the nuts (or put a bullet through his eye) for me?
Please stay out of Latin America Mr. Obama -- you are a foreign policy bufoon -- don't you remember the near disaster you caused in little Honduras a mere three months after you took office?
Give up Hawaii you bloody hypocrite - then we'll talk about the Falklands.
"I think Maggie Thatcher could still beat the crap out of him."
PLEASE!
There's a good historical backgrounder on the Malvinas/Falklands here:
http://faustasblog.com/?p=26500
It's common knowledge that the landmines laid by Argentina’s military can still be found in the Falklands and that’s why its inhabitants don’t like Argentina. So the idea of ceding control of the Falkland Islands to Argentina is simply unimaginable.
