Wookies can fly Millenium Falcons but can they drive VWs?
I am still driving my ancient but reliable VW.
Therefore, one is to conclude that "The Force" is still with me.
“Yes, a Jedi's strength flows from the Force. But beware of the dark side. Anger, fear, aggression; the dark side of the Force are they. Easily they flow, quick to join you in a fight. If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will, as it did Obi-Wan's apprentice.”
Yes, breathe dear Jedi the CO2 is within you, not your vehicle!
I'm confused, are you really encouraging us to buy a VW?, because the ads I watched were designed to attract greenies. The one is actually a Greenpeace ad.
Dismal reliability ratings, and a dislike for Germans, kept me from buying a VW. Probably a decent car to drive, but I've heard real horror stories about service. I do like their strategy of using small displacement, turbocharged engines. Not because of the carbon footprint, but simply for economic reasons. Nice seats too.
No doubt VW's opposition to CO2 caps is just the tip of the iceberg, and soon other horrors newly discovered in the depths of VW's satanic mills will be presented - in the public interest, of course - by Greenpeace or other branches of the radical network.
Who knows,in the promised episode II we may learn the villainous VW is paying substandard compensation in their new Chattannooga TN plant ( said to be $27/ hr. ), that the plant will be building Passats tailored to the tastes of the capitalist North American market, and that over 85% of each Passat will be sourced from NAFTA sources ( Great Satan, again. )
Has Greenpeace ever apologized for advocating the banning of DDT, which resulted in millions of deaths in Sub-Saharan Africa, and Asia?
Likewise, a CO2 cap will limit cheap electricity in India and condemn millions in India to poverty and premature death due to poverty. Does Greenpeace care?
Had to watch the second video again. Didn't quite catch the text at the end. Doesn't change my plans, regarding future purchases, unless VW comes out with a new Scirroco. Maybe a 2.0 liter, intercooled turbocharged model with 6 speed automatic and paddle shifters. Of course, if Ford builds a Mustang with these specs, I'll buy that instead.
Please please please tell me Lucas is going to sue the ass right off of greenpeace. Alas, Motorola (?) had to get permission to use the term "Droid" for their new phone, so it's unlikely Lucas did not give permission on some level. Perhaps there's something VW can do with the logo, or the commercial?
Entertaining at least, and makes me want to buy a VW more than the first commercial.
Eh, I might be slightly more inclined to buy a VW, but the truth is that I'm not hot on any of the new vehicles on the market. I'd rather keep an older vehicle on the road, one from the days when they were made out of metal instead of nylon and hemp. The last thing I want my family driving around is a new vehicle that is one big crumple zone.
Guess who'll win in a collision between my 1989 Chevy Astro Van and a new Smart?
Actually, they are both cute commercials. I'd rather have Greenpeace use this form of argument than going directly to government lobbying.
In fact, the theme could be expanded. Gore as Jabba the Hut. Senator Palpatine? Difficult to cast because so many in the UN eco-elite and business class environmentalists would qualify for the role.
@Coach
Well the new, new Beetle coming out this fall looks like a poor man's Porsche, and would likely fit the Scirroco like performance you desire, as it will have the same turbo 4 as the GTI.
I already have two planet killers in the driveway. Ford rules.
But the really, really, REALLY idiotic thing here is the VW TDI diesel is about the greenie-est engine on Earth right now. 49 MPG in stock trim, add 15% more with water/methanol injection. Beats every hybrid on offer for mileage. Better highway rating than a Prius, I do believe.
I hope that DeathStar shot was aimed at GreenPeese HQ. Rid the gene pool of some substandard DNA.
The German auto-worker's union payroll deductions used to be a large source of funding for GreenPeace. I wonder if they had a falling out. It must be getting a little harder to find funding for the world's largest hysteria pimping mutinational. As they dwindle, they need to hear soft chants of: Patrick Moore, Patrick Moore, Patrick Moore.......
Cute commercials, I even laughed a little at the Greenpeas one. However, the dummies made a stupid mistake - having the Death Star fire upon the planet that Vader is currently standing on would surely kill even a Sith Lord. He would not allow that.
Unless VW comes out with a car like they did in the 70's, and at a REASONABLE PRICE, forget them (I'm talking about a bug). Their newer cars are expensive and cheaply built - the exact opposite that the way VW did well in the past.

It costs almost as much to make a Jetta as it does an Audi A8. That's a lesson that the Germans learned the hard way with their ill-fated Chrysler adventure. Therefore, all new cars are pretty expensive, even the "cheap" ones. You're far better off to buy a nice 2-year old car just off of lease than you are buying a new econo-box.
I'll take the North American product every time. At least the wages paid to plan and design the bloody thing were paid to people here in North America. The German and Japanese product is designed entirely abroad.
after a long hot day cleaning and rust proofing the floor pans of my 29 and 31 year old VW Vanagons when I could have been loafing in a hammock, that video just made my day...

I guess the Rainbow Warrior theme has lost its marketing appeal. Time to move on to something people can relate to?
Gonna go shop for a Golf Turbo Diesel Wagon, just because of that commercial.
I'm confused, are you really encouraging us to buy a VW?, because the ads I watched were designed to attract greenies. The one is actually a Greenpeace ad.
We have a VW Passot and VW Jetta as well as a fuel guzzling GMC diesel (business reasons). Must I now atone for all my poor choices,
Dismal reliability ratings, and a dislike for Germans, kept me from buying a VW. Probably a decent car to drive, but I've heard real horror stories about service. I do like their strategy of using small displacement, turbocharged engines. Not because of the carbon footprint, but simply for economic reasons. Nice seats too.
Encouraging people to buy Volkswagens?
Now, where have I heard that before...?
I would have to think that Lucas was involved on this one. If not, it should be pulled soon for trade mark violations.
I like V-Dubs, but personally I drive a SAAB.
So the Reds at Greenpeace have targeted VW. Yawn.

coach - the first was a Volkswagon ad. The second was a Greenpeace parody ad telling us not to buy Volkwagons because they're evil.
Big picture: It is imperative that we not encourage George Lucas. He might - *shudder* - film again.
Using "Star Wars" for evil is a new low.

agreed O.B.1 "Kinyobe"
I'm sure Patrick Moore would be ticked about the second commercial as well, since he would like to see more CO2 in the air for the trees sake.
My TL is getting a little long in the tooth and after way, way too many revolutions of the odometer I have been linking of getting something new.
I'll go to my VW dealer & test drive a Jetta.
Cause Greenpeace just sucks. Nobody lies, cheats and deceives like environmentalists.
I'm sure Greenie pieces didn't use any carbon in the making and distribution of their parody...

"Very impressive, Greenpiece of Slime. But you are not a Jedi yet."
Everytime Greenpeace or PETA sanction a product I go out and buy one.
Anyone need a couple Wolf or Bear pelts? Mint except of course for a few 30-30 holes.
Hubby owns a Golf and I love it dearly, me I drive a Ford yes it's cruel and unusual punishment.
I see the Force is strong with you, young Knacker. :)
The Farce is with Greenpeace.

What is wrong with wanting to lower carbon emissions and other pollutants that harm the health of us and people around the world?
greenpricks can get bent. bunch of tossers!

Perfect.
"What is wrong with wanting to lower carbon emissions and other pollutants that harm the health of us and people around the world?"
Dunno. But it might have something to do with the fact that carbon is plant food, and naturally-occuring in nature.
Idiot.

My ancient VW Jetta is still a lot more environmentally than anything Al Gore is driving. Or flying. Or sailing.

Still better than the prequels.

Seems that GREENPIECE has more time and money on it's hands than it knows what to do with. Its time for them to lose their charity status.
Cool. Is this the new Touareg? I wonder how many planets to the gallon it gets? I want one now.
This commercial makes me want to buy a Jetta TDI and leave it idling in the drive through of KFC as I am waiting for my Double Down Sandwich.
Flipping of Greenpeace and PETA while enjoying a delicious fried chicken & bacon snack, what could be better?

So... you never saw The Phantom Menace etc.?
Looks like the video has been take down due to copyright infringement claims by Lucasfilm.
The Greenshirts will have to go back to defacing pictures of energy company staff.
