We don't need no stinking giant fans;
Saskatchewan has overtaken Manitoba as the No. 1 place in Canada for oil and gas investment, based on the opinions of petroleum executives and managers in the annual Global Petroleum Survey, released today by the Fraser Institute, Canada’s leading public policy think-tank.
But Saskatchewan fell just short of finishing among the top 10 jurisdictions globally, ranking 11th overall in the survey of 136 jurisdictions. Last year, it placed second in Canada and 17th in the world, out of 133 jurisdictions.

It boggles the mind that there are still many delusional folk in Saskatchewan who long for the good old days when NDP ruled the roost and the province's largest export was it's people. Unbelievable.
dastardly
One just has to look where the NDP has put their flag. Nothing but desolation is the hallmark of these oppertunists. They leave a financial desert Where ever they are voted in, with an out flux of any population.
The NDP as Quebec is going to find out is full of duces, all looking for free money at the expense of any real workers.
We rule!!! Go Saskabush!
There is a CUPE billboard on Albert Street in Regina that has the face of a sweet little old lady and the question "Just think what we could do if we raised resource royalties" They are getting ready for the election this fall.
They think we forget that this was tried in Saskatchewan already, and what it accomplished was the removal of a couple of generations of the brightest and best young people to Alberta or other places where there was a glimmer of opportunity, not to mention the lack of growth in Saskatchewan until recently.
It is a never-ending battle to prevent the smothering of enterprise by the socialists. They seem to think resource development is an unconscious process that will occur anyway no matter how much it is burdened.
The impression that Saskatchewan is more attractive for investment than Alberta is probably ephemeral, but definitely Alberta has to streamline some regulation, and make sure their royalty regime is stable and truly fair. When a politician starts talking about "fair share" someone is going to get screwed.
The limited size of resources involved that some of the jurisdictions are promoting for investment makes including the in the list almost immaterial, but local employment and investment make a difference anywhere.
Overtaken Manitoba for #1. Where does Ab place?
When I was much younger, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba had almost equal populations of just under one million. Now, Alberta has over three times the population of either Saskatchewan or Manitoba. I expect that Saskatchewan will be experiencing a population boom now that they have turfed the dippers, but I think that the new population will not be people returning to Saskatchewan from Alberta but rather refugees from socialist provinces such as BC and Ontario and the usual people escaping from economic welfare basket cases such as the Maritimes and Quebec. How long will it take for Saskatchewan to achieve the same population growth as Alberta?
The left is in overdrive in this province to do anything to derail the Brad Wall machine but it faces an uphill battle. Anti-union sentiment is at an all time high with the recent Crop Insurance debacle and the Federal Postal union strike.
I was born and raised in Regina and my Dad worked for 40 years at a crown corporation and was a union supporter and I am guessing a lifelong NDP voter. He had long suffered that SK-NDP self loathing defeatist attitude that permeated the province. In the past two years I can see that he has started to turn from the dark side and I dare say that he might be leaning slightly to the right now.
I abandoned the motherland in the mid 90's for Alberta (like everyone else) but returned almost 2 years ago to a province that has done a 180 in regards to the way of doing business. AB has become a big government nanny state. SK still has a bloated public sector but has a pretty good balance of regulation and free markets. There is still room for improvement but SK has a huge leg-up on AB. My only worry is that the boom will lead to mission / scope creep by the politicians and bureaucrats.
Thanks Special Ed Stelmach for getting Alberta into 6th.
Fair Share and his kitchen table economists around Bruderhiem , the hotbed of oilpatch hate..
BE happy good folks of Saskatchewan. It won't belong before the enviromentalists try to ruin the party. Just wait till you become the target of these nuts. Enjoy your anomity while it lasts.
Yes, enjoy your placing, at #71, BC enjoys its envirotard reputation. Despite government platitudes of 'eliminating regulations' and being ;open for business', it is now just window dressing for the reality that Liberal or NDP, the tards are in charge.
Albertaclipper, I doubt Sask's population will ever be the same as Alberta's (other than at Christmas time!) as Saskatchewan has got to have other business than just the actual oilfield operations. Calgary has the head office of all of these companies and I doubt Regina or Saskatoon will be able to take that over. Calgary is the most entreprenurial city in Canada (and possibly the only) and that is what will keep Alberta going no matter what happens. Alberta may not be number one every year but it will always be near the top. And that's despite what ridiculousness comes out of the politicians.
Remember that oil and gas investment comes at an environmental and health cost (pollutants hurt people as well as other animals and plants).
It certainly is good to see economic activity in Saskatchewan, but I hope it won't be driven by fossil fuels forever.
