Self-righteous moralism, nepotism, and rankest-of-the-rank hypocrisy at Britain's leftist newspaper The Guardian.

Ezra Levant discusses Joe Comartin's assertions about what requirements a Supreme Court judge should have.

Can someone please tell me what is the difference between "Racism" and "Affirmative Action"!

Let's see, Robert..I'll give it a try.

'Racism' is a term that refers to making a negative decision, ignoring merit, about a person based on some biological characteristic of this person: skin colour, age, gender..and is even used to apply to embedded cultural attributes: ethnicity, religion.

'Affirmative action' is a term that refers to making a positive decision, ignoring merit, about a person based on some biological characteristics of this person: skin colour, age, gender.. and is even used to apply to embedded cultural attributes: ethnicity, religion.

'Racist' is a term applied to YOU when you criticize the lack of meritorious qualifications of a person who has these biological characteristics of: skin colour, age, gender..and embedded cultural attributes: ethnicity, religion.

Damn the crop circles, looks like someone was more imaginative in their message to Obama.

Oops: Green scientists lose faith in Green politics, request exemption:

-The unexpected impact of the government's carbon reduction commitment (CRC) scheme is so severe that scientists and research funders have lobbied ministers for an exemption to reduce the bills. Among the worst hit is the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy in Oxfordshire, a facility for research into almost limitless carbon-free energy. The lab faces an estimated £400,000 payment next year...Another Oxfordshire laboratory, the Diamond synchrotron light source, expects a £300,000 bill under the CRC...

-Across the UK, laboratories will be required to pay around £1m in annual CRC bills to the DECC [Department of Energy and Climate Change]

-In the October spending review, the government shelved plans to recycle money raised by the scheme to participants, and said it would instead earn £1bn in revenue to support public finances.

Thanks for the clarification, ET. Another interesting contrast is that the target of Racism is a victim, by definition. Whereas the target of Affirmative Action is deemed to be a "victim" ahead of time. Whether or not they actually are is irrelevant to the "progressive" mind.

Hello Folks: Just want to say that the new Sun TV News are doing a great job covering topics other media organizations will not touch. Racism/Affirmative Action- ET's explanation is about as perfect as you can can get.
Exploitation of both terms needs to be dispatched...now!
A convenient crutch/ whipping boy for the aggrieved has sprouted a whole new industry flocking in to take advantage of opportunity. But, that's what parasites do.

Kinda like the Population-Reductionists that will insist they stick around in order to "supervise" their program.

Shouldn't the warm-mongers be relieved that it was all a hoax? I mean, a serious threat has been averted here. On the other hand, global warming would have reduced the population to sustainable levels! I'm so confused. Science is hard.

Flaherty says we won't get our auto-bailout money back

wtf.

Can we please have a huge backlash erupt over this? This is the worst kind of kleptocracy; taxpayers get screwed buying the vehicles due to shoddy business practice and union excess, and get screwed when the market causes the business to fail for the same reasons. We want our money back. I do not work for a living to bail out the people who are already screwing me on my auto-purchases. How many of these CEO's are still making million dollar salaries? I normally don't rag on private enterprise, but when private enterprise colludes with big government to enrich their pockets, promote unsustainable market practice, and to obtain massive subsidies with no hope of repayment, I draw the line. So much for our 'conservative' government. Disgusting.

A couple of years ago, Toronto mayor Rob Ford praised the work habits of Asian-Canadians and got called "racist" for his positive comments.

Affirmative action and "employment equity" are forms of racism, and no amount of B. S. from Rosalie Abella is going to change that.

"Cold snap linked to Viking disappearance"

"OSLO - A cold snap in Greenland in the 12th century may help explain why Viking settlers vanished from the island, scientists said on Monday.

The report, reconstructing temperatures by examining lake sediment cores in west Greenland dating back 5,600 years, also indicated that earlier, pre-historic settlers also had to contend with vicious swings in climate on icy Greenland.

“Climate played (a) big role in Vikings’ disappearance from Greenland,” Brown University in the United States said in a statement of a finding that average temperatures plunged 4 degrees Celsius (7F) in 80 years from about 1100.

Such a shift is roughly the equivalent of the current average temperatures in Edinburgh, Scotland, tumbling to match those in Reykjavik, Iceland. It would be a huge setback to crop and livestock production.

“There is a definite cooling trend in the region right before the Norse disappear,” said William D’Andrea of Brown University, the lead author of the study in the U.S. journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Researchers have scant written or archaeological records to figure out why Viking settlers abandoned colonies on the western side of the island in the mid-1300s and the eastern side in the early 1400s.

Conflicts with indigenous Inuit, a search for better hunting grounds, economic stresses and natural swings in climate, perhaps caused by shifts in the sun’s output or volcanic eruptions, could all be factors."

"Read this . . . there's room for thought!!!

Professor Ian Plimer (a member of the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Adelaide. He is also a joint member of the School of Civil, Environmental and Mining Engineering) could not have said it better!
If you've read his book you will agree, this is a good summary.

Are you sitting down?

Okay, here's the bombshell. The volcanic eruption in Iceland, since its first spewing of volcanic ash has, in just FOUR DAYS, NEGATED EVERY SINGLE EFFORT you have made in the past five years to control CO2 emissions on our planet, all of you.

Of course you know about this evil carbon dioxide that we are trying to suppress, that vital chemical compound that every plant requires to live and grow, and to synthesize into oxygen for us humans, and all animal life.

I know, it's very disheartening to realize that all of the carbon emission savings you have accomplished while suffering the inconvenience and expense of: driving Prius hybrids, buying fabric grocery bags, sitting up till midnight to finish your kid's "The Green Revolution" science project, throwing out all of your non-green cleaning supplies, using only two squares of toilet paper, putting a brick in your toilet tank reservoir, selling your SUV and speedboat, vacationing at home instead of abroad, nearly getting hit every day on your bicycle, replacing all of your 50 cents light bulbs with $10.00 light bulbs...well, all of those things you have done have all gone down the tubes in just four days.

The volcanic ash emitted into the Earth's atmosphere in just four days - yes - FOUR DAYS ONLY by that volcano in Iceland, has totally erased every single effort you have made to reduce the evil beast, carbon. And there are around 200 active volcanoes on the planet spewing out this crud any one time - EVERY DAY.

I don't really want to rain on your parade too much, but I should mention that when the volcano Mt Pinatubo erupted in the Philippines in 1991, it spewed out more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than the entire human race had emitted in its entire YEARS on earth. Yes folks, Mt Pinatubo was active for over one year, think about it.

Of course I shouldn't spoil this touchy-feely tree-hugging moment and mention the effect of solar and cosmic activity and the well-recognized 800-year global heating and cooling cycle, which keep happening, despite our completely insignificant efforts to affect climate change.

And I do wish I had a silver lining to this volcanic ash cloud but the fact of the matter is that the bush fire season across the western USA and Australia this year alone will negate your efforts to reduce carbon in our world for the next two to three years. And it happens every year.

Just remember that your government just tried to impose a whopping carbon tax on you on the basis of the bogus ''human-caused'' climate change scenario."

"Barack Obama's decision to play golf on Memorial Day was disrespectful and hardly presidential"

"The (UK) Telegraph ^ | May 31st, 2011 | Nile Gardiner"

"Can you imagine David Cameron enjoying a round of golf on Remembrance Sunday? It would be inconceivable for the British Prime Minister to do so, and not just because of the usually dire weather at that time of the year. Above all, it would be viewed as an act of extremely bad taste on a day when the nation remembers and mourns her war dead. I can’t imagine the PM even considering it, and I’m sure his advisers would be horrified at the idea. And if the prime minister ever did play golf on such a sacrosanct day he would be given a massive drubbing by the British press, and it would never be repeated."

"Egyptian Banker Mahmoud Abdel Salam Omar Arrested on Sex Crime Allegation by Maid at New York's Pierre Hotel"

"A prominent, 74-year-old Egyptian former bank chairman, Mahmoud Abdel Salam Omar, was arrested at New York's Pierre Hotel this morning in connection with an alleged sex assault Sunday on a 44-year-old room maid.

The attack allegedly took place when the woman delivered tissues he requested to his room.

The incident recalled allegations against another international finance official at a New York City hotel earlier this month. On May 14, a maid at the Sofitel Hotel claimed, former International Monetary Fund leader Dominique Strauss-Kahn sexually assaulted her in his Manhattan hotel suite. Strauss-Kahn is under house arrest in New York as his case proceeds.

Omar was arrested on charges of sexual abuse, unlawful imprisonment, forcible touching and harassment.

Sources said that the executive was clad in pajamas when he answered the door to let the maid in. He then allegedly groped her breasts and tried to kiss her before she fled."

nv53 - yes affirmative action is indeed a form of racism.

But for people to accuse Ford of 'racism' because he praised the work and study habits of Asians is nonsense. It's a part of their embedded culture. Does this mean that to comment on or praise other embedded cultural habits of specific groups, such as church on Sundays for Christians, synagogues on Saturday for Jews...is a 'racist comment'?

Would criticizing Obama for playing golf on Memorial Day (after the obligatory photo-op of Him at some ceremony)...be racist? Or just a comment on his self-absorbed nature?)

"China's slowdown"

"Starts with a spark"

"CHINA’S economy has, at least on paper, survived forces that have overwhelmed much of the rest of the world. But the recent round of bank tightening seems, at least indirectly, to be hitting with real force. Slowly, word has spread of Jin Libin, a resident of Inner Mongolia who ran a business empire encompassing supermarkets, mining and transport, who set himself on fire one day in April and burned to death. According to the Global Times, a government-run newspaper, he left private debts of $1.3 billion yuan ($191m) of private loans and another 150m yuan of loans from banks.

Still to be reflected is the impact of his collapse on his lenders, which, the Global Times says, included local banks, pawnshops and guaranty companies that had lent him money. No doubt there were also substantial loans from an impersonal network, a form of credit that is commonly used in China, though not legal. The consequences will not be trivial. Many other explosions driven by the same financial forces that brought down Mr Jin are sure to come.

In part, the travails of private businessmen stem from well-known trends in China: higher costs for wages, pressure from overseas buyers facing turmoil in their own countries, a (slightly) rising yuan, higher direct payments for energy—and sometimes indirect payments as well, as power producers hit capacity and send their buyers on the to grey market. But another important factor is China’s deliberate effort to use financial tools to undermine inflation. The search for a soft landing is beginning to take its toll."
