  1. Christopher Taylor quotes Michael Lind at Salon:

Let’s stop pretending the Constitution is sacred….Tea Party constitutionalism represents a deeply flawed understanding of America’s founding…

    Taylor:
“Lind isn’t alone. Just in the last few days, the Washington Post, New York Times, and even some Democrat congressmen have joined in the attack: the constitution isn’t sacred, the founders were nothing special, the Republicans are acting weird when they venerate the document, we must move on past that.
“Why this attack on the very foundations of the United States?
“For the left, the problem is what these men stood for, believed in, fought for, died for, and achieved is beginning to clash more and more with what the left wants to achieve. Their ideals and the constitution they wrote keeps getting in the way of the left’s goals and ideals….”
    The whole thing here.

  2. Remember how we we’re all going to die if we did not fix the ozone hole?
Well, turns out the “experts” were wrong.
    One of those experts was Susan Solomon;
[ Her work formed the basis of the U.N. Montreal Protocol, an international agreement to protect the ozone layer by regulating damaging chemicals. ] (Freon12 kept you cool – safely and economically)
Oh, and who might have also served as one of the co-chairs of Working Group 1 of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change?
You got it – Susan Solomon
The climate alarmism movement has become so ‘end-of-the-world-radicalized’ because to lose now would be the end of the world for tens of thousands of con-artists – careers, monetary, reputation.

  3. Ayaan Hirsi Ali says she will not make sequels to her controversial 2004 film Submission, an attack on the treatment of Muslim women. In an interview for Dutch TV, the former Dutch politician said the risk to the crew and cast would be too great.
“The script for Submission II is ready for filming and a third part was planned, Ms Hirsi Ali says, but it would be necessary for producers, crew and actors to remain anonymous, and this would be ‘extremely difficult if not impossible’.
“Submission criticised alleged violence against women in Islam, and featured images of women’s bodies painted with verses from the Qur’an. After the film was aired on Dutch TV, its director Theo van Gogh was murdered by a Muslim extremist…”

  4. So Freon12 was banned just as the patent on it expired and when it would have gone generic.
    What an odd coincidence.

  5. I fully agree with your take, Robert, both in this thread and in the other two. It’s repulsive to see so many people trying desperately – almost pruriently – to attach the actions of someone who is seriously mentally ill to partisan politics.
A certain percentage of people who are seriously mentally ill have an inordinate, obsessive focus on power; they either believe that the people who they perceive as being powerful – the President (whoever it is at the time), bin Laden, the Pope, a TV news anchor, a local aldermen – are speaking to them directly, or they think that their own ideas will have a great and manifest influence (a third currency, for example, in this case) on the world. To see *sane* people trying to attach the outlier-iest of these mentally ill outliers to the body politic has an almost emetic effect on me.
There is an historic and hugely consequential political battle going on in America and in the west in general that will go on for years to come, but this particular tragedy has absolutely nothing to do with that. On the plus side – if you can call it that – our trolls serve to re-remind us that people can be ghoulishly, opportunistically tiny.

  6. AGW Progress Report: Red-Green Fraud = Rationing.
“So little energy was generated then that the National Grid, which is responsible for balancing supply and demand of energy in the UK, was forced to ask its biggest users – industry – to ration supplies.”
“… new figures showed that during the latest cold snap wind turbines produced less than two per cent of the nation’s electricity.”
“Flawed: To cover up the ineffectiveness of wind farms the Government will be forced to build emergency back-up power plants, the cost of which will be paid by industry and consumers”
    …-
“Customers face huge bill for wind farms that don’t work in the cold”
“The failure of Britain’s wind farms to produce electricity in the extreme cold will cost billions of pounds, create an economic crisis and lead to blackouts, leading industrialists have warned.
To cover up the ineffectiveness of wind farms the Government will be forced to build emergency back-up power plants, the cost of which will be paid by industry and consumers.
Jeremy Nicholson, director of the Energy Intensive Users Group, which represents major companies employing hundreds of thousands of workers in the steel, glass, pottery, paper and chemical industries, said the failure of wind power had profound implications.”

  7. Ontario: Gutting Liberal Red-Green Fraud & Profligacy.
“He would end government subsidies to corporations like those contained in a $7-billion green energy contract inked with a South Korean consortium.(Samsung)”
    …-
“Prepare for spending cuts if PCs elected, Hudak warns”
“Ontarians should expect cuts if the provincial Progressive Conservative party is elected in October’s election, Conservative leader Tim Hudak said.
Mr. Hudak said the process of digging Ontario out of its massive $18.7-billion deficit will take time and will require “important choices.”
He told reporters Wednesday the cuts would fall into one of three broad categories. He would bring restraint to public sector collective agreements. He would end government subsidies to corporations like those contained in a $7-billion green energy contract inked with a South Korean consortium. And he said he would trim the number of agencies, boards and commissions in Ontario.
“You could put any three letters of the alphabet in any order you want and you’ll get some agency you’ve never heard of but you’re paying tens of millions of dollars a year to sustain,” he said. “If you put an ‘e’ in front of it, you’re up into the billions.”
Mr. Hudak also pledged to put an end to spending initiated by the Dalton McGuinty Liberal government, which, according to the Conservative leader, has grown by 70% since 2003 while the economy has only grown by 9%.
“Spending needs to reflect the ability of families to pay the bills,” he said.””

  8. After much consideration I have concluded that I prefer the Yankee formualion Parent #1 and Parent #2 to Progenitor A and Progenitor B, which, I believe, was proposed, or possibly instituted, somewhere in deepest, darkest Europe.

  9. Jonah Goldberg suggests he’d like a ban on punditry for at least 24 hours after a mass killing. He knows, of course, that this wouldn’t be possible.
But I can fantasize too: I’d like to see NO news coverage of the murderer’s background for clearly we are unwittingly consipiring in his sick quest for Ophrazational Warholian Glory and nudging on the next TV-Tabloid-Facebook-Twitter hero.
Continuing my fantasy, I’d like to see “social” networks banned or, rather, as a libertarian, abandoned by an enlightened people who’ve come to see the sickness of it.

EBD, The left wants to remove the rudder of the USS Constitution and let the winds of progression-ism
blow freedom into the abyss of entitlement and ruin.
Freedom is difficult, too difficult to continue…….

The sky’s the limit. It’s cold in space, they say.
    Blast off. Up and away.

“Crystal clear skies give stargazers stunning views thanks to Arctic blast”
“If you happened to look up into the sky last night you may have been treated to a dazzling starlight display.
Thanks to the cold weather we have been experiencing over the last month the skies are at their clearest because of clean air pushed down from the arctic.”

“Snow tapers off to make way for cold snap”
“After we are done with the snow , we’re not finished with the poor weather. Our next hurdle will be a harsh cold snap that is offering up a string of daytime highs colder than -20 and overnight lows colder than -30.”

All the European glaciers will be GONE by 2100, if we don’t do something RIGHT NOW!!!
The AGW crowd are getting smarter in their fear mongering, perhaps taking a lesson from the religious extremists who have predicted “the end of the world” at least three times in my lifetime.
So, no more of this “the world will end…” in a time frame that can actually be verified, like the “rise of oceans” by 2015,just move the threat to “our grandchildren” and sit back and see if anyone takes it seriously.
Governments will, as always, use the new theory to impose another tax.
