    I’m not rushing to judgment on this guy’s political affiliations, but NO conservative I ever met would include the Communist Manifesto or Mein Kampf on their list of favorite books, even if they have read them repeatedly to “know your enemy.”
    I put 1984 and Animal Farm on my favorites list despite Orwell being a pacifist and socialist because they are strong critiques of socialism. And he was also highly critical of certain types of pacifists in his Notes on Nationalism.
    If you read the complete list, it includes Brave New World and Fahrenheit 451. It includes The Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, and Gullivers Travels. This guy is obviously into fantasy utopia and dystopia. The Phantom Tollbooth, also on the list, was one of my favorite books as a kid.
    You’ll notice the list does NOT include:
    – Fountainhead
    – Atlas Shrugged
    – Going Rogue (with notes in the margins)
    – The Road to Serfdom
    or anything else a tea-partier is likely to have read.
    Also, although most liberals are pro gun control, it does NOT mean that many leftists aren’t gun-owning militants. They want gun control to disarm the masses, not themselves.
    This guy has spent too much time listening to “Silent Lucidity” on his iPod!

  6. Communist Manifesto and Mein Kampf are both socialist books, written by socialist theoriticians/politicians.
    They are also the only Non-fiction political books on Loughner’s favorites list.
    As to the incoherent ramblings in Loughner’s videos, they aren’t far removed from what I’ve heard from Obama when he doesn’t have a teleprompter.
    Alvin Greene comes to mind too.
    Loughner is crazy, sure.
    But crazy is very comfortable and common on the Left-(Whoopie Goldberg and her “rape-rape”, Jean Chretien and his “proof is a proof”, John Kerry and his “Winter Soldier”, Nancy Pelosi “al-Qaeda isn’t in Iraq”)- and it shows up in Leftist quotes, speeches, and books all the time.

  7. Jared has serious mental issues: he being fixated on “currency issues” and the miserable status of the USA. May God (forgive him and) heal those persons wounded or injured and give comfort to those who have expired -and their families. Isn’t it sad that the congresswoman read the first amendment recently – in an effort to try to work with both sides. Who could have thought this could happen…a young gal. What is more disturbing is the extreme left wing comments on various blogs. May God Bless her.

All the naval gazing of his motives, what he reads, what he listens to etc may contribute to his lunacy, but bottom line by his rants above he looks like a nut. Trying to tie this horrible act to any talk show host or political movement is detestable by those doing it.

  9. The videos show features of a mind suffering from schizophrenia — paranoia, delusions of grandeur, flight of ideas, ideas of reference, loose associations. In short, whoever made the videos is probably mentally ill — nothing to do with political affiliation one way or the other. Although I’m sure idiot members of the MSM will try to invent an affiliation — anything to serve the pre-ordained narrative. They’re idiots without the excuse of a neurochemical imbalance.

  14. This is a circus. Good Morning America just called me. it’s loughner just checked my year book. I haven’t seen him since ’07. Then, he was left wing. more left. I haven’t seen him since ’07 though. He became very reclusive. he had a lot of friends until he got alcohol poisoning in ’06, & dropped out of school. Mainly loner very philosophical. As I knew him he was left wing, quite liberal. & oddly obsessed with the 2012 prophecy. he was a pot head & into rock like Hendrix,The Doors, Anti-Flag. I haven’t seen him in person since ’07 in a sign language class He was a political radical & met Giffords once before in ’07, asked her a question & he told me she was “stupid & unintelligent”

    He was speaking of a specific situation but it describes the MSM’s general attitude towards Palin and the Tea Party. The media so badly wants to link them to something, anything evil that journalists end up looking like fools by linking Palin and the Tea Party to everything.

  17. Just a quick comment on the reading list thing. No it did not include Atlas Shrugged or The Fountainhead, but it did include We The Living, which is also by Ayn Rand.
    I think the guy was a delusional nutcase.

  21. Even if Jared was liberal 3 years ago when Catie Parker knew him doesn’t mean that he still is. Based off of his videos and choice of books I doubt he’s conservative or tea party. One thing to remember though is that there are liberal minded people in the tea party.

Anyone else notice that despite overwhelming evidence that the perpetrator hives closely to the progressive mindset the Conservatives do not attribute political motives when mental illness is evident. However the progressives continue to attribute Conservative motivation against all contrary evidence including mental illness.

  28. Joe, you’re spot on! Now that things have settled down a little, I got to thinking about my own thoughts over news of violent acts in the past few years. Not once did I ever think to blame a politician for the actions of a lone nutcase. But our “friends” on the Left, so consumed with hate towards those who disagree with them, always blame conservatives for such actions … and are almost always wrong. Do apologies come forthwith? Never.
    The actions of Tarek Fatah today are especially surprising to me. I was starting to have a fond liking to him as a moderate voice. Today though he was anything but moderate.

    In October 2007, Loughner was cited by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department for possession of drug paraphernalia, a charge that was dismissed in November 2007 when he completed a diversion program.
    One year later, in October 2008, Loughner was charged with a “local charge” in Marana Municipal Court, that charge was also dismissed following the completion of a diversion program in March 2009.

  34. I was taking a nap and then heard the voice on the television. I saw that it was the CBC anchor, a lady with a bright yellow dress. Next a male voice dealing with the tragedy. “The US has a gun culture” the voice intoned. “When Obama was elected, there was an upsurge in people buying guns”. (or very near that).

    I half shouted the word “charlatan” and got a reproving look. Next, the voice tap toed and danced around, disclaiming that what this meant was not to mean any particular group. It was in my mind that this must be a Democrat Party faithful.

    The the bright voice of said lady, thanked “our Washington correspondent”. Neil McDonald in Washington was he. Our tax dollars at
    work.

    This would be outrageous even if Krugman himself were not one of the worst hatemongers in public life, a man whose hysterical rhetoric exceeds anything you hear from Limbaugh, Beck, or any significant figure on the right who comes to mind. But this sort of contemptible demagoguery is exactly the kind of thing we have come to expect from Krugman.

Clarence Dupnik, the Pima County Sheriff lefty who refused to enforce AZ’s immigration law ( which, by his oath, was duty-bound to enforce ), has now, in a news conference declared Loughner as ” unstable ” but not insane. Who knew Sheriff Dupnik was a clinical psychiatrist? That neatly dovetails with his follow on: “…people who are unbalanced are especially susceptible to vitriol…”
    What ” vitriol ” is he talking about? Dupnik further explains: “…the vitriolic rhetoric that we hear from people in the radio business and from some of those in the TV business…this is not the nice United States that we grew up with.”
    Lastly, Dupnik proposed a ” grassy knoll ” theory as well: that there was an accomplice.
    Sheriff Dupnik shows a sleazy zeal in making wild accusations and slanders against conservatives but has refused to enforce a law he took an oath to uphold. Expect to see a lot of him in the weeks to come.

  40. Peter, my wife was watching the same CBC garbage in her wood shop and told me about it when she came in. No satellite feed to her shop. But she knows what to expect from CBC.
    What concerns me is those poor people who have no access to anything but CBC or CTV.
