  1. In “The NDP: Keep the faith and turn left”, David Goutor of The Star delivers this – deadpan – whopper:
“Countries that have embraced right-wing economic policies…are generally the ones in the biggest trouble.”
Yep. I guess Greece and other bankrupt EU nations just didn’t spend enough.

  2. If I had a child or friend in one of David Goutor’s classes, I’d strongly recommend they drop out of the class immediately. The fact that even with endless amounts of evidence that governments the world over have spent way too much money (aka gone too far left), this “professor” is recommending even more of it is absolutely mind boggling.
Yet, there will undoubtedly be a sizable contingent amongst the ranks of the NDP that think of him as an illuminative genius.
Incidentally, contrast Goutor’s advice with that of Norman Spector, who has urged the NDP and the Liberals to join forces on the federal scene.
Two very different views. I wonder which one they’ll follow. Likely neither.

  3. “David Goutor is a Canadian historian and assistant professor of labour studies at McMaster University.”
Assistant professor David Goutor reads like a closet communist.

  4. EBD
The Ca-Na-Da clip brings back some memories but in doing so I noticed a subtle inconsistency.
The picture of Trudeau regally descending the stadium stairs is from the 1970 Grey Cup. Odd that someone would feel the need to include it in a video that is ostensibly about the 1967 centennial celebrations.

  5. Speaking of the NDP, can anyone guess why the RCMP were monitoring Tommy Douglas? I aways thought he was somewhat of a benign figure in socialist politics.

  6. How about BTO singing “Takin’ Care of Business”…everyday! Bachmann-Turner Overdrive was a Canadian/American band from The Guess Who out of Canned Wheat, born in Canada and hit it big in Seattle. Got to see them come to the local hot spot, Hi Hat Lounge in Tacoma before they hit it big. Heart, too. Maybe Small Dead Animals is going to win another blog award?

  7. EBD:
Thanks for that. Brings back huge memories.
I was a churlish teenager, living in Montreal during the time of Expo 67. I scraped up enough money to purchase a “passport”…ie..a season’s pass to the exhibition.
Each night, at closing time, literally hundreds of us would exit the gates singing that song…
Ahhh…to only wish for better, simpler times…

  8. Congratulations Kate and thank-you, once again, from the bottom of my heart;for saving my sanity by providing a on line site for sane public opinion. Your site has attracted so many interesting and intelligent posters and commentators that I am as anxious to read the comments as I am to read the posts. We in western Can na da owe you a great deal – easterners with a head on their shoulders too – SDA has given us a place to find facts and to be heard – we were completely marginalized by the msm; they would not even print our letters to the editor; now the losers in msm read your site to get a byline for their stories! Your success has been earned and I, for one, am very proud of you and SDA; a Powerful Canadian Institution.

  9. It appears the WWF is using the “poor polar bear” gambit on gullible executives.

“A close encounter with polar bears in northern Manitoba on a recent trip has left a trio of corporate partners shocked about the extent of global warming and renewing commitments to reduce their environmental footprint in partnership with customers.”

Obama bans offshore drilling, Russia drills off Cuban Coast

  11. Jonathan Foreman, The WikiLeaks War on America
The indefinable international organization known as WikiLeaks was relatively unknown between its setting up in 2006 and the April 2010 premiere it staged at the National Press Club in Washington of the “Collateral Murder” video—a selection of stolen and decrypted gun-camera footage that purportedly shows the unlawful killing of Iraqi civilians and two Reuters journalists by the crew of a U.S. Army Apache helicopter. Skillfully edited and promoted, and widely accepted by the mainstream media as proof of a U.S. war crime, the video won WikiLeaks fame and praise around the world and made its founder, a 39-year-old Australian named Julian Assange, an international celebrity….

    Bravo Jema! Merci beaucoup, Kate!!
    Happy New Year to All!!!

  13. Two points:
    – Bobby What’s-his-name song sucks, did then, does now, and,
    – the Natural News Watch has a leading story on how “Canada has lost it’s way under Harper”. Turns out it is an op ed from the UAE media. You know the UAE, the people who kicked out the Canadian military airbase and is now going to charge Canadian’s $1,000 visas to enter, all because Canada would not give their airlines more routes into Canada. I realize that the leftoids over at NNW usually link to Tor Star stories but to look up a hit piece from the middle east is a stretch even for them. Who really cares that some oil sheiks have their knickers in a knot anyhow?

“#13 — CNN | Chinese villager’s death sparks national outrage
Beijing (CNN) — The photograph was unmistakably graphic: a lifeless man under the large tire of a truck — his eyes shut, mouth half-open with blood streaming out and his head detached from his crushed body.”
“The government initially said Qian died in an ordinary traffic accident and detained the truck driver.
But as shocking images from the scene in Yueqing city began to appear on a popular Chinese online forum Sunday, some posts suggested he was murdered by local officials for advocating villagers’ rights in a land dispute. Word quickly spread online and mainstream Chinese news media picked up the story.”

Police in Kelowna, B.C., say a man sensationally vented a common grievance over lengthy emergency room wait times on Tuesday when he crashed his truck into a hospital hallway.”
