Find a raging case of bulldozer envy. Now is the time at SDA when we juxtapose!
Randomly selected progressive blogger, Dec.13, 2010 – Venezuela has been giving power to its people, while Harpo & Co. have been sneakily taking it away from us. So of course, Venezuela is a “tyranny”–it’s the tyranny of a good example that they don’t want us following. Chavecito walks in the footsteps of Simón Bolívar; what if Canada walked in the footsteps of Venezuela, or at least Tommy Douglas?
Associated Press, Dec. 15, 2010 – Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Tuesday asked congress to grant him special powers to enact laws by decree for one year, just before a new legislature takes office with a larger contingent of opposition lawmakers.

It’s important to note here, that the legislative assembly will in 1 month have a functioning opposition, and that for 11 months of Hugo’s presidential enabling bill, he is seeking to rule by decree, and without the assembly passing any laws that may oppose him. It is very close to coup material.
For a view from within Venezuela, go here:

To compare Chavez to Simon Bolivar is probably one of the most asinine statements I have ever heard. Bolivar was a strong believer in the federal republic-style of government. Chavez is a tin-pot dictator in waiting.
From Kate’s first link is this…
“Montreal-based R&D (Rights & Democracy) recently gave its 2010 John Humphrey Award to the Venezuelan non-governmental organization PROVEA (El Programa Venezolano de Educacion-Accion en Derechos Humanos). According to R&D’s website, “The Award consists of a grant of $30,000 and a [just completed] speaking tour of Canadian cities to help increase awareness of the recipient’s human rights work.”
PROVEA is highly critical of Venezuela’s elected government. In December 2008 Venezuela’s interior and justice minister called PROVEA “liars” who were “paid in [US] dollars.”
and today in the leading (only?) english translation of a widely available Caracas newspaper:
“Efforts made by the Venezuelan government to clean up the police force have not borne fruit, according to the Venezuelan Program for Education-Action in Human Rights (Provea) …
… between October 2009 and September 2010, there were 39 reports of missing people captured by the police or military officers. Their health and whereabouts remain unknown. The figure represents a 387.5 percent hike compared to the previous period.

Only a leftist cretin could possibly argue that attempting to establish or reinforce a dictatorship is “giving power to the people”.
Ms. Lefty is a gung ho femmie it seems. Does she know about Pants Lady from Sudan? Because there ain’t nuttin’ about it on her blog.
Always remember that when PM Harper does something he is a controlling freak who wields supreme power, but when Cretien had an actual majority and wielded power with an iron fist (and a choke grip) he was a benevolent progressive.
Fools…
Any deep thinking with words meme, nuance or con-tard is usually a nuanced anti-meme of con-tard-identification-tardation.
At least I think so, perhaps it’s just crap.
Reminds me of Thomas Friedman’s glowing comments about Communist China. It’s endlessly fascinating to me how Leftists living in a free nation so conveniently praise Leftist dictators elsewhere and yet condemn each & every action of so-called “conservatives” back home.
naturally, i could be wrong – but it seems as if ms. sabina has taken leave of her senses.
this shameless promotion of el presidente is too slick for its own good. pttuii x2 — that was ripe.
Um, what Canada does that blogger live in? We’re following Tommy Douglas’ footsteps so closely we’re about to trip into his grave. I’m pretty sure I heard the Venezuelan oil industry isn’t really being maintained and is kind of falling apart. Which is funny because it’s just like our health care system. I’d also love to “rewrite” our Charter of Rights like with broad strokes from a sharpie.
I like that blogger’s diction though with words like Fug and Quango. As unseemly as they are I admire literary precision. I hope to be precise with literaries some day.
Good for them, Hugo is such a nice man, with a great sense of humor!
Good lawd… I had a look at her blog. I have never seen such a huge load of bull puckies. Not sure what is funnier, her ridiculous opinions, the volume of her entries or the fact that no one seems to care. Check out her comments. I think she max’s out at… wait for it 3!
That’s relevance for ya!
Yes, in the “progressive” neo-liberal mindset government power is the definition of power to the people.
Actually, that blog deserves to be much better known on our side. I follow it. We all should, for the reasons below.
Completely mad, of course, and clearly a Soviet transmitter someone forgot to switch off somehow. But look at the language. It’s the caricature of a construction worker.
This woman, however, won the prize for BEST FEMINIST BLOG. We have NOTHING TO APOLOGISE FOR in citing Kate, Kathy at fivefeetoffury, or Ann Coulter, etc., and whenever we have to show that liberal/leftist “rhetoric” is far closer to the the bottom of the gutter, all we have to do is cite that blog plus the prize and say “well”? Meets with stunned silence …..
M, Mexico’s state oil industry production has been steadily declining for more than 10 years, not because of declining reserves but because of declining investment. As wells decline, they are not replaced by new ones to match the rate of depletion. This capital drawdown will certainly happen in Venezuela as well. There simply hasn’t been enough time yet for the attrition to show.
Quanga, there was an interesting period in the early ’90s after the collapse of the Soviet Union. For a time, the only remaining Soviet-style regime was Albania. And for about a year, the Communist Party of Canada (and all the other similar movements in Europe) were idolizing Enver Hoxha the way they used to for Brezhnev, Khruschev, Mao, et.al.
You are quite right; Sabrina is simply replicating this pattern perfectly.
Yeah, but she LOVES the space shuttle!
I think that facts are important. I know that ‘fancy’ or fiction is vital to the left, but, if someone is going to pronounce that Venezuala is ‘better’ than Canada, based on a set of data – that data had better be accurate.
For example, the blogger declares that Venezuala has 100% literacy and made some hostile remarks about Canadian schools and tests of children, as opposed to ‘higher salaries for teachers’! I’m not aware of any nation with that 100% rate so I checked with the World Factbook. Venezuala has 93% while Canada has 99%.
And, she says that all health care is free! No such thing; the people are paying via taxes. So, I checked on the results of this health care. Infant mortality rate is a good value for this. In Venezuala, infant mortality is very high: 21.07 per 1,000 live births. Hmmm. In Canada, it’s only 4.99 per 1,000 live births.Hmmm.
I like this feature Kate. Reading the demented drooling of some prog-left wastrel is an ego boost. Please make this a daily feature. Pick a random progressive culture warrior blog every day and let us see a daily reminder of the genetic intellectual retardation in prog-left true believers.
Chavez has taken over great swaths of the food industry, and is now trying to expropriate Empresas Polar, the country’s largest food retailer. The problem is that the Venezuelan government has shown no competency at running any business, as the rotting of 80,000 tons of food in government warehouses this June demonstrated.
If he succeeds, I expect that current chronic shortages in basic food items will turn into famine.
…chronic shortages in basic food items will turn into an opportunity. Fixed it (for dictators).
This short video shows the tremendous damage capitalism has had on the world in the last 200 years. sarc off. This is type of data, using graphics, that leftists just hate as it shows how a rising tide lifts all boats. Of course some, like Venezuela or Zimbabwe, prefer just to continue sinking.

Ah Tommy, the self same guy who forced women to be sterilized? The self same man that believed in eugenics? Some hero, fast forward today and we can boast we have rationed healthcare lists where patients wait to live or die depending on the person above you on the lists hitting the dirt before you do. Some hero.
There’s a bunch’a pictures of poo on there I see. What is it with Lefty bloggers and doodoo? They’re constantly talking about it or showing pictures of it.
This won the Best Femi Blogger? Shallow candidate pool?
There is no point in beating around the bush, Sabrina Becker is a Communist. The word progressive merely masks what she actually is. Scary to think they walk among us.
nv53: The Dictatorship of the Proletariat!
“Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Tuesday asked congress to grant him special powers to enact laws by decree for one year, just before a new legislature takes office with a larger contingent of opposition lawmakers.”
Obama’s people must be asdvising him.
