Pounding Square Pegs …

What does it take to get both left and right to rise up together in protest of government over-reach or incompetence? … being groped at airports in order to satisfy politically correct dogma doesn’t seem to be it:

I recall the almost unbearable hair-pulling and moaning that issued from the left when the Bush administration decided to listen in on suspicious international communications, or when a streamlined process for eavesdropping was initiated … oh the horror!

  1. This is just goofy!
Take control. Don’t allow anyone to touch your person if you don’t want to. It’s illegal. Take names and press charges. Be prepared not to fly.
    Who are the adults here?

  2. Those ‘streamlined’ procedures for wiretapping have short-circuited the safety checks needed to maintain civil liberties, so yes there is some horror there.

  3. I do not call people “progressives” for the reasons mentioned in the post. I don’t care how they wish to identify themselves. If listening in on a terrorist’s conversation or profiling potential terrorists is more of a violation than man-handling a grandmother, nun or toddler, it is clear that the person is regressive. Their stupidity and callousness do not advance the state of humanity.

  4. Punishing all of society at airports instead of targeting Muslim extremists is a liberal policy. Alas the left don’t like people to be marginalized even Islamic terrorists thus the rest of us get zapped with radiation or sexually molested lest we offend potential terrorists. No I can’t under stand liberal logic, it’s to twisted to get my head around.

  5. Napolitano will try to convince us they’re only trying to get the terrorists by the balls. And to achieve that they have to grope everybody. Fingerwave anyone?

  6. What Obama and the TSA need is some success stories. Getting to second base with little old ladies, elementary school kids, rape victims and cancer survivors without catching a bad guy is really bad PR.
Actually, I’ll be surprised if enhanced pat-downs and naked scanners last until Christmas. The US public is already fed up with Big Government nonsense. As the airlines begin to lose money they will insist on modifying the procedures. If not, well, Obama and co. might get the opportunity to own an airline or two.

  7. It should be noted that this ‘enhanced pat-down’ nonsense started during the Bush years.

  8. libertariansaresmarter: No … the nude scanners and advanced groping are purely a child of the Obama admin. and the underwear bomber. However, former-Bush operatives are benefiting financially from the scanners.

  9. Had this “enhanced pat-down” started under the Bush administration as ‘libertariansaresmarter’ (clearly more of a lefty than libertian) claims, the Left, or rather statists, would have gone nuts. Being statists do not hold your breath waiting for them to rise up with the Right to protest big brother government unless the president is not one of their own. Actually the label socialists, or communists in disguise, is more appropriate than even statists.

  10. I am a frequent flyer and an old geezer. This politically correct crap is so stupid I now joke about in order to live with it.
Why is it when I get a pat down they always have some guy attend to the task? I can handle a grouping from a young lady, but when I ask, they always smile and I just never get my way.
At my age that would be the only way I would get a
pleasurable grope, but I guess it’s not to be…

  11. CBS News poll: 81% of Americans approve full-body x-ray machines. The actual question: “Some airports are now using ‘full-body’ digital x-ray machines to electronically screen passengers in airport security lines. Do you think these machines should or should not be used at airports?”
The results are hare hard for me to believe. Could it be that many people are unaware of the exact nature of the image produced? The wording of the question makes it all sound rather innocuous and doesn’t make clear that everyone must been scanned or submit to a thorough pawing.

  12. Alain, you nailed it.
melwilde, yes. Although, even Pfizer can’t fix a grouping, a groping maybe.
Next thing you know they will have microphones hidden all over the airports so that they can hear the old grannies complaining.

  13. With rampant cell phone overdependence coupled with x-ray overuse, I think maybe, that future medical researchers are going to be surprised at the increase in brain tumors and wonder what could possibly have caused them.

  14. Left-liberalism and its ally Mohammedanism, aka Islam, has created a GULAG of everyone in the West.
    We are all GULAG prisoners.
    …-
    “Stalin’s GULAG”
    “Women in the GULAG”
“A drawing by Evfrosiniia Kersnovskaia, a former Gulag prisoner.”
“The arrival at the corrective labor camp turned out to be the culmination of the humiliation. First we were made to strip naked and were shoved into some roofless enclosures made out of planks. Above our heads the stars twinkled; below our bare feet lay frozen excrement. An enclosure measured 3 square feet. Each held three to four naked, shivering, and frightened men and women. Then these ’kennel cages’ were opened one after the other and the naked people were led across a courtyard‘the camp version of a foyer‘into a special building where our documents were ’formulated’ and our things were ’searched.’
The goal of the search was to leave us with rags, and to take the good things ’sweaters, mittens, socks, scarves, vests, and good shoes’for themselves. Ten thieves shamelessly fleeced these destitute and barely alive people.
‘Corrective‘ is something that should make you better, and ‘labor‘ ennobles you. But ‘camp‘? A camp wasn‘t a jail. So then what on earth was going on? ””

  15. It has been said that the goal of the liberals is to beat down and humiliate people as they go about their daily lives. The patdowns and invasive xrays exactly fit the bill.

  16. So that’s the euphemism for ‘no judicial oversight’, then? “Stream-lined”?
Oh, and most of the conbots here don’t seem to be against the airport BS on principle. Actually, most seem to want more abuse, they just wish the abuse was restricted to brown people and other scary minorities.

  17. Everyone hates this stuff because it’s intrusive, etc.
However, if a plane were to blow up and kill a few hundred Americans because someone like the panty bomber was able to sneak a bomb onboard then the whole story changes and the gov’t would be to blame. I think that sometimes overkill in matters like this is necessary until these terrorists are destroyed. I am also sure that the US is looking at other ways of detecting bombs.

  18. If you attend at the airport of any despotic marxist regime, you may get an inkling of why our home grown wannabe’s aren’t having a problem with this. As to who got the ball rolling, it is the bureaucracy that rules once they get the authority, and they know where this is all eventually going to wind up.

  19. I just went through this farce on Thursday. The point which conservatives fail to grasp is that this is the thin edge of the wedge.
The true goal is “ubiquitous surveillance”, a situation in which citizens are observed one way or another by government operatives 24/7. TSA would very much like to have internal passports for every American citizen, foreign resident and foreign traveler. Such documents would have RFID technology able to be read by roadside sensors, traffic cameras, stores, police cars, whatever. Look up California Driver’s License RFID for a giggle.
Such documentation would be a chip card with photo on the front, the usual bullsh1t height, weight, blah blah, plus an iris scan, a fingerprint scan, a facial recognition scan and for all I know a DNA scan and a full-body x-ray and dental record, all encoded on the chip.
The purpose of this is to be able to track the movements and associations of the population in real time, for political purposes. Terrorism is just the excuse.
The naked scan/grope bit is just the opening shot. Pretty soon you will see this farce played out for public transit, court houses, sports events, concerts, traffic stops, maybe even to enter shopping malls.
Then they will compromise, and offer the internal passport, aka ‘enhanced ID’ and that will be that. Carry the card or they assault you every place you go.
We shall see if The Phantom is wildly paranoid or just understands the nature of the enemy. I think a dead giveaway that I’m not wrong is the resounding silence from the Lefties. Given their stated beliefs they should be all over this like ugly on a wart hog, but all I hear is crickets.
I predict a brisk market in Faraday cage wallets.

  20. Can someone explain why profiling is bad, we seem to know what and where the terrorist are, so why not?

  21. I was always told to carry my own bomb onto a flight because the probability of two bombs on any airplane was infinitesimal.
So now the TSA treats everyone as a terrorist, which means the probability of a terrorist boarding any given flight approaches infinity.
    Stats lie people die 🙂

  22. Profiling is bad because it presumes a guilt by association. Innocence until proven guilty must prevail.
But what if we just assume everyone is associated? We are presumed guilty. Guilty until proven innocent.
We are all terrorists now 🙂

  23. Israel has never had a bomb successfully smuggled on a flight. The reason: they profile all passengers. The US should, too: this is a gross invasion of privacy, with no probable cause to justfify it.

  24. Steve asks: “Can someone explain why profiling is bad…”
Ask Ford at 7:39pm Steve. He seems to think we are all RACISTS!
It isn’t about security Steve. Its about furthering the Leftist agenda. Have you not noticed they scream about rights when Republicans are in charge, but rights are the very first thing under the bus when DemocRats get in?
What’s up with that, Ford? No outrage from you at the deliberate targeting of young women (handsome young women I should say), the elderly and the disabled by TSA?

  25. Bush listening to your phonecalls was the crime of the century – what am I saying? – the crime of the millenium!!!.
Obama touching your genitals, your mother’s genitals, you wife’s and your 4 year old daughter’s genitals just to make Muslims feel better is just fine.
If you agree with the two statements above you must be a liberal.

  26. In other news, sales of Play Doh have been down at most airport toy stores while bookstores report brisk sales of “Good Touch, Bad Touch”.

  27. Profiling is completely acceptable, it’s nothing more than a suspect’s discripition alas I’d rather be looked at with crossed eyes than sexually molested by strangers who get paid to do so.

  28. Well, cconn @ 7-39, you may well opine that the “overkill” situation is acceptable but will you still feel the same way when our keepers deem that mere pat-downs no longer cut it and that only FULL BODY ORIFICE examination can guarantee your safety?
“Please remove your underwear, Sir/Madam, and assume the position”.
You happy with that, too, cconn?

  29. Perhaps the profiling of Muslims would have irritated the so called “moderates” to confront the so called “radicals” (if there is a legitimate difference I’m not sure) by now. Communities that wish to separate themselves from the greater society (ie…First Nations and Muslims) must bear much of the responsibility for the dysfunction in their communities. After all, they are separate communities by choice.
These small communities within the larger community should be called out and shunned by the majority. THIS…would instigate corrective action withing these communities. It’s been generally accepted that the Muslim population will in the end have to quash the radicals from within; but, until such an acceptance for this responsibility is recognized WITH ACTIONS they must be treated as insolent children.

  30. The purpose of this is to be able to track the movements and associations of the population in real time, for political purposes.
    ~the Phantom
Can’t the government just use our cell phones to do that?

  31. If I was looking for a ‘Hockey Stick Bomber’, I would profile white people. If I was looking for a ‘Soccer Ball Bomber’ I’d be profiling idiots. Get it?

  32. “Actually, most seem to want more abuse, they just wish the abuse was restricted to brown people and other scary minorities”
No, Brainiac, we just want extra precautions taken with that segment of the population that has a predisposition towards blowing stuff up, including airplanes and buildings. Alas, it tends to single out young middle-eastern men… c’est la vie.
Or are you just too stupid to understand that everytime the TSA grope an octogenarian nun or get their jollies feeling up somebody’s 3-year-old, this allows a half-dozen happy types from that segment described above to traipse through to the airplane, worry-free?
We don’t have the resources or money to check everyone who flies: therefore it makes sense to start profiling those who are the biggest risk. And if they don’t like, or ford doesn’t like it… too bad. This lunacy cannot continue as-is.

  33. My earlier point was in regards to the creation of the TSA, which cons loved/ignored because their team was in charge. When TEAM RED is in charge, statism = good.

  34. Oz said: “Can’t the government just use our cell phones to do that?”
Not if you take the battery out.
They want a layered, redundant, gold-plated system which is really, really expensive so lots of buddies can make a ton of dough. Its government, that’s how they do things.
England is the model of ubiquitous surveillance, they’ve spent billions of pounds on it. Currently the main use is tax collection and harassment of car drivers, but if the gloves come off they’ll be able to follow pretty much anyone they want at will.
Until all the cameras get broken anyway, that ought to take a day or two.

  35. I still think the easiest and safest way for airlines to move people quickly and respectfully is to put a pig on every plane. No Muslim is going to die if there is pig blood involved. Put them in the cabin in a little pen and call them Babe. Kids would love it. Muslims wouldn’t. Tough.
